Had a bit of excitement. After four years got my 1970 240Z fully restored and on the road. After about 1 hour of driving had smoke in the cab from insulation burning on one of the primary power wires under the dash (see photo). I repaired the wire and added a new female spade connector and then proceeded to clean the connectors under the dash by the passenger kick panel (second photo) as well. I then reconnected the wire and ran the car and held the wire with my hand and noted it becoming hot. Tested resistance on the wires and they seem fine. Also, noted that when I turn on any item, lights, dome light, brake light, etc. the fuse clips related to that item also ge…

I am finally getting my 73' 240z (L28 S/U's 5 speed) running after many many modifications and reassembly. The problem I have is that the car surges forward when cranking even when the transmission is in neutral. With the clutch pushed in it does not do this. The transmission was rebuilt by a shady backyard mechanic, me. Could it be clutch adjustment?

Forgive my ignorance, but aren’t the retaining clips supposed to be visible from outside the shaft. They’re all capped like the one in the photo I guess. any advice?

I have removed the rear strut assembly. Now that it's removed, can I remove the the stub axle by pounding on the nut after removing the companion flange? OR, do I have to use a slide hammer attached to the four studs?

I have a 73' 240Z w S/U's. Right now it will run for a second with a bit of starting fluid but not otherwise. I installed a electric fuel pump in just outside the fuel tank. There are two filters one before the pump and one before the carbs. Both fuel filters don't quite fill up with fuel. I know some fuel is getting to the carbs but could it not be enough pressure? Trapped air? I will probably try replacing the fuel pump as a stab in the dark. If that doesn't work I may have to fire my mechanic and find a competent one.

Hey guys I’m new to this website but I have read a ton of stuff on here and it’s been a great help so that’s why I’ve joined. Anyways my 78 280z has been running fine for a while, I have all new fuel injectors, fuel pump, and afm. My fuel pump relay was bad so I wired up a switch to the wires where the fuel pump relay normally connects to and it’s worked fine. Recently however it has been idling horribly at around 500 rpm, but when I flip the fuel pump switch to off it jumps right back up to 1000rpm and idles fine until it dies from fuel starvation. It will also occasionally die out in addition to not accelerating sometimes. I’ll be driving and suddenly the power will not…

I recently acquired a 240z rolling shell. And when I say rolling shell I mean it. There’s literally nothing in the engine bay and I don’t have brake lines. The only thing on this shell is, Brake rotors and calipers, axles (obviously), steering, rear axles, and a differential (most likely an R160) my question is, what is everything I need in my engine bay for me to swap an engine and transmission in and get it to run and drive. I know this is a huge request but it’d be greatly appreciated. And yes I have googled diagrams and schematics for the engine bay but in haven’t found much

I have a 1971 Datsun 240z made in the month of April (4/71). I purchased a new Brake Maste Cylinder but it says it only works on 9/71 to like 73 i believe. It looks like it will work though the only difference is where the bleeders are on the cylinder. I cant find a new brake master cylinder for the early early 240z. Will this one work or do I have to find the early early one?

Friday morning started my 71 240z; ran rough, then worse, then died and wouldn't restart (car is driven daily and recently completed a 600+ mile two day rally). Starts with starter fluid. No fuel coming from mechanical fuel pump output when engine is cranking. Decided that fuel pump had failed. Saturday replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter and a couple of sketchy looking fuel hoses. Still wouldn't start. Added 8 more gallons fuel, did not help. No leaks seen. Today connected fuel bottle to inlet side of fuel filter, car starts right up. Filter and pump are now known to be good. Connected electric fuel pump to line feeding the fuel filter; no gas seen at …

I'm currently dealing with not having power at any of my injectors. I've been using the 78' FSM to help me diagnose this issue. To support the findings I tested for continuity on the 35 pin connector based on the prescribed tests in the FSM. There was really nothing of note besides not having power after the 10 pin (powerline circuit). I'm starting to wonder if there's a ground that's missing. All of the grounding points in the engine bay check out though. as far as i know, I have spark (running a GM hei instead of the TIU), I have been running the original style fuel pump but have an aftermarket one as well. All my fusible links have been replaced…

My air cleaner won’t clear the brake bleeder valve. I must remove the air cleaner cover along with the back plate that is supposed be attached to the carbs. I can never actually attach the back plate and can only secure the entire air cleaner by the two wing nuts. Can someone tell me how far their bleed valves protrude from the master cylinder and also the gap between the tip of the bleeder valve and the air cleaner cover? My bleeder protrudes 3/4 inch from master cylinder. I have 1 inch gap between tip of bleeder and the filter cover. In essence I have one inch of clearance to remove cover. any help is appreciated.
