For those who don't like to read, cliff notes are on bottom right above my questions. I just recently bought a 75 280z and have been getting it to where it can run again (been sitting for 2 years). So far, I've fixed some wires that a damn pack rat ate through, cleaned up the thing's mess, put in new spark plugs and wires, new air filter (pack rat ate through that and made a nest in the air box which i cleaned up), i drained the fuel tank, put on a new fuel filter, and am getting ready to change the oil and oil filter. I cranked it over early on to make sure it wasn't locked up or anything and it cranked over beautifully. One thing I noticed though was that I never hear…

I have a 1977 280 that was given to me after being flooded by a huricane last year. Got it running but it will die soon afer it starts. So i decided to remove the air flow meter . It now stays running but idles a little ruff like it is running rich . When i plug the air flow meter in the idle smoothes out for a second and then the engine dies almost as if you turned the key off. Is there a procedure to test the air flow meter to see if it is bad . Thought i would just find a new one but what if that isnt the real problem . Can i test the one i have to see if it is bad . Can it be repaired or is it just a throw away and buy a new one type thing.Any help or advice would be …

I recently repainted my engine bay and I removed the metal clutch/brake lines that run along the firewall in the bay. Now I need to reshape and put back the proportioning valves and metal lines but don't know where they go and how they are shaped. I was wondering if anyone had a pic of an engine bay with no engine so that I can use as an example for mine. I would really appreciate it. Saro Fagerian

Hey guys, I took the ignition switch out of my z so my dad could make me a new key (he used to be a locksmith and still has all of his tools. Damn P.O. lost the ignition key  ) While looking at it I noticed two wires going into a small housing on the left side of the switch with bullet type connectors on them. One of them is kinda torn up (P.O. maybe?) and i was wondering what do these wires control? Thanks a bunch guys! Previous owners..... cant live with em, can't shoot em!

The unthinkable happened yesterday morning. Sadly, I was involved in a collision involving Lucy (my 240Z) and some POS Ford Taurus. It occured in bumper to bumper traffic, just before eight A.M. and on wet streets. So here's the story... The driver in front of me, a teenager younger than myself, moved forward and began to accelerate. I did the same and glance at my gauges to ensure that everything is going ok with my engine and the electrical system, since I installed a new alternator and battery the previous day. As soon as I like back up, the Taurus slams on its brakes and skids to a stop, for some reason unknown to me. With cars to my side, front, rear, and a m…

I have noticed some coolant leaking from the underside of the car occasionally. Today I replaced all of the hoses and the thrmostat (180 degree), only to realize it was coming from the coolant overflow tube. What is causing this? Is there supposed to be a tank for it to collect in, like on newer cars? If so, the previous owner tossed it.

I'm in the process of swapping cylinder heads. In the farthest forward manifold stud hole on , there is a damaged helicoil insert starting several turns below the surface. It's older than all the other inserts I think. It is damaged to the point that I cannot get a screw in since it has numerous burs within the thread, I think from the threads seizing up around the old stud before someone forced it out. I tried chasing a tap through it but ended up breaking off the tip! barely got the fragments out (bad idea, I know. Didn't realize how hard those inserts are) 1) Do I really need this stud? If I use all the other studs, and just not this one will I have trouble getting a …

Hi folks, This might be a simple one for some of you, but for me....no. Took the '72 L24 for a drive yesterday after it had been sitting for about two weeks in the garage. Oil was leaking at a good clip (about a drop every 2 or 3 seconds. Also, the oil pressure gauge was pinned on the high side. I stopped and restarted the engine a few times and the pressure went back to normal (about 45 psi). I took it home and parked it in the garage and there was about a 6 inch puddle of oil under the car this morning and the intake side of the engine was covered with oil. At first, I thought it might have been the valve cover gasket, but that seems like a lot of oil to be that. B…

Anyone have advise on a good general purpose book on how to do car maintence and repair? I have the service manual for both my Z's,(and the Z therapy carb balance video) but i really need a good easy to understand book on how to do tuneups, brake work, small repairs, etc. Its hard to find a good book nowadays that actually has tuneup info for old skool cars with points, etc. I suppose there may be some good web sites as well, anybody have any good leads?

I don't know why my engine keep's running after I shut it off. I've check the timing, fuel mixture, exaust (for leaks), and vacume leaks, and I can't find any thing wrong. But it still runs after I turn the key off. It also runs backwards!!!! What the hell is going on? Rock on Z people Matt-

Hey guys. I was taking apart my engine today to check on the head. And i noticed that the PO (dipshit) had completely wrapped the big hose that is between the air flow meter, and the intake manifold (FI 78 280z) with duct tape. Unwrapping the tape showed that the hose was damn near shredded. Does anybody know where I can buy a new one? Also, do you know where i can buy a new dipstick for the auto transmission? Thanks allot guys
