Hi, folks, I got big trouble again. When I drove my 72 240z first gear as fast as 45miles per mile(probable over 6000rpm with my 72 240z with '83zx 5 speed trans and r-200, 3.5 or 3.7 differential from 80s zx). I heard fairly loud bang sound from the engine or trans area. I don't know exact where, but I saw small amount of smoke coming from somewhere throught the vents from hood or side/front of the hood. I also smelled burning rubber like odor too. I thought engine belt burned out or someting. The engine runs and I hope it is OK, but I am not be able to engage any gear. Only stuck in the one gear, but I can drive and drove home by using 4th gear without …

Ya know I had a new battery laying around and decided to swap into the my 76 280z last night. You would think the old bitch would appreciate it but she decided to pay me back for all the times I've dogged her! Anyway, I put the new battery in and changed the cables to purty new ones, soldiered everything up so I would have good connections, but now it looks like either the fuel pump or injectors are not working. The starter cranks and I did confirm that I am getting spark. I'm trying to track down the friggin Fuel pump relay but I coulnd't find any reference to it in the 2 pages of Haynes manual that actually pertain to my model Z. If anyone has a picture of it I wou…

Hey everyone, I hope you guys can help me out here. I just got an 81 280zx to add to my collection of my 78 280. I have a problem with the clutch. I'm used to automatics and never worked on a manual car before. The problem is that the clutch pedal is stuck to the floor. I can pull it up with my hands, but when I press it down it just goes to the floor and stays there. Does the system have to be bled? Or do I need to replace the clutch, master & slave cyl.? If the system needs to be bled, can someone tell me the steps on how to bleed a clutch? I appreciate any help I can get. Thanx Mike

Ok, I just bought a 1972 240z. l24 i assume with mt 5speed. I plan to do a full oil, trans, coolant change but lack the knowledge of what these engines take.... so far i bought 8 quarts of 10w30 synthetic ? and unsure what to get for the trans fluid. already got water wetter and some radiator fluid and some dot 3 brake fluid to change that out. there was no manual with the z to check what fluids i need. if someone could post the requirements i'd appreciate it.

Where is a good place on the front end of a Z to jack it up? I can't get to the bottom starter bolt from the top so figured if I jacked it up it'd be easier to get to. HELP!!!

Hi All, I've recently acquired a barely running 1973 240Z. It's been sitting for several years. With some new gas, and some starter fluid it will start when boosted (battery is dead). Both the clutch and brake pedals have almost no resistance at all (though they do spring back). The resvoirs for both seem to be within spec. With the engine running I can't get the car into any gear. I've restored several motorcycles, but none had a hydraulic clutch. One of them did have a hydraulic front brake, but looks significantly less complex than the hydraulic brakes of the 240Z. Will I need to replace all master and slave cylinders for both clutch and brake? Is it possible that a di…

I was wondering why my drivers side floor mat had some stains on it. I started poking around under the dash and noticed that gear oil was coming off the fitting where the speedometer cable attaches to the speedometer. My guess is that it's coming all the way from the transmission up the cable. Anybody else have this happen to them?

My car has the factory A/C on it. The A/C still cools, but the compressor has started making noise, so I have not been running it since. It is now starting to get too hot for the "windows down" method of A/C during the day. Are there any cheaper A/C compressors that will work (maybe from other cars)? I think I saw a new one from Victoria British for like $300-$400? Ouch. Any ideas?

I picked up a car a few weeks ago, it ran fine when I got it. I put it up on jackstands and changed the clutch slave cylinder, when i put is on the ground it wouldn't start. The car is a 260 with a 280zxt engine 83 i believe. Using the stock ecu. All it will do is crank, and a slight stumble if I set the accel just off closed. Now what I have checked, I checked the compression (just checking) 120 across the board Plugged in a spark plug and grounded it, and a nice hot spark Setup a fuel pressure gauge, 42lbs When I pulled the plugs they smell a bit like gas You know even if someone has the FSM wiring diagram. I have the FSM for the 260, and have seem to misplaced, my…
