This 1983 280zx turbo engine has had a ignition miss. While running the engine, I'm getting intermittent spark to #1 and#3 plugs. I pressed the side of the distributor housing with a large screw driver and the spark came back as long as I held it. Any ideas of what to think of this? If the bearing in the distributor is worn, is this a common result. Really don't want to buy a new one, MSA wants about 300 dollars. Also, I looked under the dust plate at the "wheel" with the slots in it. It looked ok. Any help would be great!

hi all, after I installed clutch slave and master cylinder, my 72z runs again. However, I encountered another problem, Over Heating. After I drove my 72z (with L28 and 5 speed), I realized that water temp gage's needle showing above 3/4 which over 200 degree while driving highway about an hour with 90 degree Solano county, California. Then I drove through the city traffic(stop and go), the needle in the water temp gage showing almost 250 degree. When I came home, water temp indicated about 250 degree. So, I parked the car left the idel running the car to see any leak from cooling system, I did not see any steam coming from anywhere but the water temp went ove…

I have had my 1981 280Zx Turbo for about 2 months . I purchased the car from a man who let it sit for about 3 years without running. I was able to start it with a jump from another vehicle and drive it home. It ran rough and to this date I have done the following: 1. Plugs 2. Plug wires 3. oxygen sensor on the exhaust 4. test fuel injectors and replace 2 5. Dist Cap and Rotor moved dist to seek best position 6. Fuel regulator 7. Fuel filter 8. Compression check no real low indications 9. Valve adjustment After all this it still runs about the same. Won't idle and seem rough at higher RPM levels. Oddly enough it will sometimes clear up and run smooth and idle well for…

So I put my new MSA header on yesterday and got the piping and all that sorted out. However, the flange on the header isn't as thick as the intake manifold. I had hoped that this wasn't going to be an issue so I just used the thick washers from my original exhaust manifold and let them settle at an angle on the studs that hold both the intake and exhaust. But I can hear at least one exhaust leak so I guessed wrong. What have others done? I fabricated a heat shield so I'm probably going to have to remove the carbs completely as well as the shield in order to get at the manifold bolts. Not a hard job, just not very satisfying when done for the 2nd, 3rd, time etc. So …

Anybody have problems with carb clearance on a MSA header ? I bought a MSA 3-2 coated header for my 260 and have since sent it back to them. I believe it's badly manufactured since on bolting it up the carbs(early SU's) are essentially touching the second pipe. There's plenty of room for routing it so there'd be much more clearance, like the other five pipes. MSA says it's bolted up on their showroom floor and has an 1/8" clearance with same early carbs and E88 head. I've never dealt with a header before, but considering the heat issues with the car I think I'd be insane to have so little space there. Has anybody run into this issue before with this header ? Has anybody s…

I bought a 71 240 for less than $800. I have had 3 240z's in the past but never tried to restore one. The interior on this car was in mint condition(well worth the $800 alone). It was not in running condition when I bought it, but I cleaned the carbs, replaced some hoses, new plugs, dist. cap & points, and now she runs. Not well but she runs. Some days she fires on all 6 cyl. and some days only on a few. I plan on buying a pair of reman SU's from Z therapy soon, but untill then the manifold is leaking so much fumes it is hard to stand in my garage while the car is running. I want to buy a header and new exaust so I can at least try to work on it a bit. I do n…

When I got my car, the doors did not line up flush with the body when they were closed. I decided to try and adjust the striker plates to fix the problem, and created a bigger one. The driver door now lines up nicely, but I have to pull up on the handle a good bit harder than before for it to open. When it does open, it "pops" open. After screwing with the passenger door plate for 3 or so hours, I could get the door to line up fairly nicely, but you cannot open it without pushing on the edge of the door. In addition, you cannot lock it either. I put the key in the door, but it will not turn. Is there an easier way to tell what position those damn plates should be i…

Hey Z people, I think my Distributer Vacum advance ball bearing cage is busted. Does any one know if I can get a replacement part? I sucked on the Vacum advance hose and nothing moved in the distributer. I can also see a ball bearing sitting in the distributer. Matt-
