When I got my car, the doors did not line up flush with the body when they were closed. I decided to try and adjust the striker plates to fix the problem, and created a bigger one. The driver door now lines up nicely, but I have to pull up on the handle a good bit harder than before for it to open. When it does open, it "pops" open. After screwing with the passenger door plate for 3 or so hours, I could get the door to line up fairly nicely, but you cannot open it without pushing on the edge of the door. In addition, you cannot lock it either. I put the key in the door, but it will not turn. Is there an easier way to tell what position those damn plates should be i…

Hey Z people, I think my Distributer Vacum advance ball bearing cage is busted. Does any one know if I can get a replacement part? I sucked on the Vacum advance hose and nothing moved in the distributer. I can also see a ball bearing sitting in the distributer. Matt-

=/ Wheel locks, and the key in the car was not for these locks. Any ideas on how to remove them? I'm scrawny and using hand tools, and would rather not drive the car anywhere in its current state. Help!!!

Hi people, I have question about my 72 240z. Yesterady, I realized that my clutch did not engage and found the clutch slave cylinder was leaking. Today, I bought and replaced for the 280zx(79-83) slave cylinder from the NAPA(parts store), and the 280 zx(79-83) master cylinder rebult kit into my old master cylinder. After I installed master and salve cylinder, leaking fluid from bleeding bolt and the master cylinder(or probably reservoir which I did not close the lid of the reservor while pumping the clutch. When I compared old slave cylinder which slight different from 1983zx which I bought from the NAPA's slave cylinder I installed today, well almost same except th…

I just saw an awesome modified '79 280ZX. A previous owner had it professionally converted into a top-down driver. The Z is for sale, and although I am a purist, this conversion was very well done & the result looks like a cross between a Z & a Datsun Roadster. The car has rust issues; rust in the doglegs & under the windshield. It's definitely a work in progress, and I'm seriously contemplating making an offer. My main concern is reinforcement. The current owner doesn't know what, if any, mods to the frame rails might have been done to compensate for the removal of the top. The rear deck is mainly metal (a very clever use of part of the roof & hatch)…

I have a question regarding tension rod bushing replacement. I am replacing all of the bushings in the front suspension with new urethane ones from Motorsport. As I'm replacing the tension rod ones, I notice that they are about .100" thicker than stock rubber ones (which may have been compressed since I don't know how old they are), and about 10 times as hard. When I assemble them, the holes to bolt the tension rod to the control arm don't line up any more, they are off about 1/4 inch. I could push the control arm forward to get the bolts in the holes but that seems to put an undesirable torque on the new urethane control arm bushings. Is that the way it is supposed to be…

hey all, As very few of you will know, i'm currently doing the rb20det swap. and am at the modify the sump point, contrary to popular rumor, you can't just take it off spin it 180 deg and put it back on, the ends are a slightly different shape with different screw holes, and rather than just welding it on, i'd like to do this the right way. So i went and was quoted $400 by places to cut top inch or two off the sump (screwwhole layer etc) and swing THAT around and weld it back on... thus being able to bolt it on again. $400 is pretty ridiculous so Can anyone here point me to someone in South East Queensland that can do this cheaper? Or anyone on these forums with a TIG…

Well, I just changed over the title, got my new licence plates and added my recently aquired '71 240z to my insurance policy. I was ready to start driving! Unfortunately, it turns out todays simple oil change revealed approximately a 50/50 split between oil and coolent draining out the crankcase....not what I wanted to hear from my mechanic . After some serious contemplation about reverting to British sprorts cars, I have decided to go ahead with the repair. So, everyone check between the cushions of the sofa and send me your spare change! Seriously, anything I should know while this thing is opened up? Thanks!
