Ok, I just got the collar I forgot for the mallory distributor that I have. I thought I would just warm up the car, so I could skip some of the cold tunning ambiguities, and install it. WELL I tried to unscrew the screws to the collar and the first one was a little tight so i thought maybe it was just shifted and needed the other one... Baisically I snapped both the screws about half an inch down from the head of the screw... Good news is that I got the collar off and there is about 1.5 of an inch sticking out of thread. I decided to let the block cool off ( I hope that was the reason...) and then try again later.... Anyone know how to get these scews out without t…

1972 240Z We lost the original key so had a key made at the locksmith based on the key code in the documents that came with the car. I tested the key on doors and hatch and it worked but it was a bit sticky. The wife decided she needed to move the car out of the garage so she fired the Z up. It started fine but then she could not turn it off. The key was stuck in the On position. She had to stall it to kill the engine (I can feel your cringe from here). Any ideas? I dismantled the ingition swith as far I could. I took the back of the switch off by unscrewing the 2 little bolts that held the part that has the contact leads to the harness. The ingition lock looks like I wo…

I'm installing weatherstripping on the hatch of my 260, and need to remove the trim panel that houses the cabin light. The light is the only thing I have left to remove so I can pull off the old weatherstripping flap underneath. How do I remove it?

Quick question, I need to replace belts and hoses on a 70 240z. Is there a good place on-line to order parts for z's or should I just stick to my local autoparts dealer? Zover

Hello everybody, I have finally found a car that both myself and my partner agree is worth owning from an aesthetic point of view. She is very fussy! What Im asking however, what are the main differences between the body shells of the 240's and the 280's. I hope this isnt an obvious and dumb question, but from what i can figure from the searches on the internet they are very similar in body, just lights and bumper diferences. We like the 240z coupe shape what other models had this chassis and body. Also the 2+2 configuration of the 240, does that have a differing rear 1/4 window shape to the coupe. Where do they mainly rust? Im sure there are many other questions, so if y…

Yesterday, I bought a 1971 240Z. This is my second one, I absolutely loved the first car. It was sadly crashed and totalled due to some poor driving on my part a few years ago I bought the old car in good running condition and never did any work on it, so this new one is my first real project car. After getting the new car home (not that fun with lots of steering free-play, a cabin filled with exhaust fumes, brakes that are sponge-o-rific and no headlights (last 10 minutes of my drive was after sunset), I've realized that I've got a big task ahead of me to get this car nicely road-worthy. As a relative newcomer to restoring an old car, I'd love some assurance that this…

hey guys, im a newbie to this site n to the whole Z scene in general. i usually frequent the celica forums for thats my daily driver. 2 weeks ago i bought a 280z as a project car. ive been workin on it lately (replacing hoses and stuff) and yesterday i thought i was ready to fire her up. i got it cranking n everything seems to work...except that i have no fuel coming through the line. now i know that the 76 has an electronic fuel pump, so i ran a volt meter to it while cranking to see if there was any current flow and i found there was none. i know there are fuses and stuff that are located on the same circuit...problem is that i have NO idea where theyre located (c…

Have a 1983 280zx turbo. Car starts and idles fine when cold. After it warms up it misses at idle. Something is causing the spark to cut in and out as the engine is running. Using a timing light to see when it fires, it will fire a few times then miss one or two times and then sort of repeat this over and over. To make this even stranger each of the 6 plugs seem to have a different rhythmn. Some fire almost all the time, some are firing about half the time. I need some help! This is what has been done. Compression check-------all near 150 lbs. New cap and rotor. New plug wires. New plugs. Tried a new coil--no change. Checked connections…

Hey hows it going. I had my z running great yester day. Then it wouldnt start. All i get is a click from the relay under the right side of my dash. I figured my terminals just needed cleaning so i did that. Cleaned both terminals and were the wires hook up to the terminals and the wires themselves. Problem solved. Z started right up. So i turned her off and started her a couple times and all was good. I was thinking this was too good to be true so i tried a third time. Same old click. I let her sit over night and tried her this morning. same thing. My battery isnt the best so i thought it might be that. But after trying to give it a jump i can tell it isnt the case. The l…

When I purchased my Z it had a dead battery (actually it was a fairly new battery from down south where the car was from and we were having an extreme cold snap here in CT, like 2 degrees outside, so I think the New England weather killed the battery) Anyways, I went to Sears and bought a new Diehard Weather Handler. It works well and starts the car fine when charged, but with the battery brack on the negative battery cable barely sits and clamps down on the terminal. I'm afraid it may pop off one of these days. Any suggestions?
