My 1973 240Z is dead. It was Thanksgiving and I was on the freeway driving to work and it started to die. Then it backfired for the first time and kept going. About 15-20 seconds later it died again. No power, nothing. When I pulled over I noticed my amp/fuel gauge was smoking. After I had it towed I pulled the gauge out. It was blown. The lead wire coming off of the starter that goes through the firewall is fried as well. I replaced the wire and bypassed the amp gauge to see if I could get the car to start. Nope, just more fried wires. I didn't notice any bad connections to the alternator. What could be causing this? I'm this close to tearing everything out and redoing t…

I took off the flat top carbs on my '74 (hubby won't be too pleased that I've "rendered yet ANOTHER car nonrunning) with fairly little difficulty. In trying to place the round tops on, I realized the studs are a tad bit too long. So much for getting the new carbs in before he gets home from work! What is better; replace the studs or use a gasket as a spacer? I have the plate to allow me to use my stock air breather, so for the time being I won't have to deal with what to do with every single hose. However, I DO need to know the best way to deal with the hoses that are no longer used. Also, which hoses go on to the nipples at the top of the base of the round tops? O…

Well.. as most of you may know of my accident.... I noticed I have anti-freeze leaking all over my passenger floor.. I looked for the source and it is a valve where the Inlet hose for the heater core comes in through the engine bay into a valve and then splits apart to the heater core. Here is a diagram from my book...

I'm working on a '73 240Z with round top carbs that my husband & I bought as a non-running project car last year. We were actually able to get it started & drive it home, but it ran VERY rough. We haven't been able to get it started again. I've checked the plugs & wires, gapped the points, swapped out the fuel pump with no effect. The engine turns but doesn't "catch." I've read in other threads that the ballast resistor can keep the motor from running, but it seems in these cases the engine was revving. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

my from bumper of my 72 wasn't bolted on the side and I wanted to take off the bumper guard so I removed it to find one of the bolts for the side had been broken off in it, I drilled it out and used a reverse tread removal bit and snaped the bit in it , I tried another bit to try to retry the process , I assume the bit is some super metal because it let anything drill into it , what do you think a machine shop a bumper shop or a welder?

I'm trying to start my 73Z up after 1 year in storage. All the fluids are changed and theres fresh gas. It turns over fine, but won't start. What's the best way to find out if there is even a spark. Thanks in advance for any help

There isn't any spark. Does this mean the electrical system is messed up. It was fine just a year ago. I guess sitting for that time something went bad. Any ideas? Thanks for your last replys.
