I was driving my '71 240Z from Costa Mesa to Riverside. I ran over a large rock (???) or something very big and heavy on the 60 freeway right by my exit ramp. I immediately stopped the car and found my wheel to be heavily damaged with a "large negative toe." I figured it was just a damaged wheel so I slowly made it back home and changed the tire. When I jacked it down and decided to drive it to see if it was safe, the entire left rear drops. After a simple inspection, I found that the transverse link (A-arm) was slightly deformed and the part that connects the link to the axel was broken in half ! ! I have only had the 78 280z for a couple of weeks. (stock L28 motor-fuel inj.-5 speed) weeks. It has a noticable ping. Slight smoke at idle. Smokes like a freight trane when you stomp the gas while driving. It is white smoke witch I thought was oil but it has a VERY strong smell of gas. Has a slight backfire on fast decel. I did a compression test today. pumped up between 175 and 180 on each cylinder, but leaked down pretty quick. I took her out and really romped on it today.......motor feels like it is pulling strong until 4th gear ...at that point speedo would not go past 80 and you could hear slight pinging. What do I need to look at.....any idea what the problem may…

well i got back to tuning my z and i get the front somewhat tuned and go to the rear car, when i press the lifting pin to check the mixture it dont do anything!! i even pushed up the piston with my finger and it didnt do anything. its is moving smoothy and it does suck air, need help please

Has anyone had success with an engine flush to free up oil rings that are failing to control oil blowby above 4250 rpm? Otherwise compression and power are great on a 77 280z with 38,000 mi and a fresh head. Oil useage is about 1qt/1,250 mi using Syntec 5W-50. What brand? Did it affect engine seals? Thx

continuing in my asking for assistance, My 280 is having fuel supply problems, something with the fuel pump, what sort of problems did the 280s have with their pumps and also, I did an injector test (put a testing light into the connector plug) and it didn't show regular signal. What could cause that?

My 73 240 is in need of rings, right away! The only ones we can find are cast iron and there is no way I'm putting that in there! Datsun/Nissan no longer makes the rings to fit this car and aftermarket can't get here til tuesday. Any suggestions? Thanks, TraeZ

I've already searched this on several sites. My 73 has no brake lights. I have replaced all the fuses and replaced boththe headlight and turn signal switches. Headlights and tailights work great and are super bright (for a Z) but still no brakelights. I have also replaced the brake light switch which was fried closed and it works fine. Should their be any voltage at this switch? I have chased wires until I'm totally frustrated. This car has sat for 15 years and I am in the process of resurrecting it. So the brakelights have never worked while I had it. Hazards don't work eaither!! I'm open to any ideas.

ok i just got an 83 280zx turbo it sat up for a year befor i bought it. on my way home from buying it it ran good then all of a sudden the tach stated jumping and it started sputtering and the sensor light came on then it died i thought i was out of gas so i put gas in it and cranked it up and finished driving it home. the next morning i cranked it up let it warm up and now it wont rev above 3000 rpms. as i slowly push the gas it revs up and it hits 3000 (not floored) and the more gas i give it the more it boggs down. now if i clamp off the fuel return line i can rev it up to 5000 rpms before it boggs down someone help i put new plugs,wires, fuel pressure regulator, fuel …

should there be any play at the input shaft (R200). When I pull on the half shaft, It will move back and forth a little. It's not the Ujoints.

Since I've owned my 73' 240Z the rear passenger-side turn signal (right side) would not flash. I wasn't worried about getting pulled over, since no one in Houston uses their turn signals anyway. Recently my instrument panel lights went out (all at once). I could live with that too, since I can hear when I need to shift, and everyone speeds in Houston anyway. This weekend, my rear running lights went out. Now I'm sure to get pulled over. I've checked all of the fuses and they are all good. I've also checked for loose connections on all the wires around the fuse box. I have a Z club meeting on October 9th, and I don't want to leave my Z at home. Can anyone give me some idea…

how do i check to see if the alt is working properly? without a voltmeter i mean. is it the pull the battery cable while its running trick with the z's i have a 74 260z and just got it on the road monday!!
