I just trailored my father-in-law's (now my) 1973 240z home. It was last started in 1993. It was mechanically sound at that time. He was the original owner and the car has 50K miles. I have been told different things as far as what I should do to get the car running. Anything from put in a new battery and see if she starts to drain all the fluids, including taking off the gas tank, replace all the hoses and pull the spark plugs and put a light oil in overnight to lubricate things. The last thing I want to do is screw anything up, but I also dont want to do things which are not indicated. Also I will need to get new tires, what are good tires for this car? Zover

Oh No !! I adjusted valves then set timing . I noticed to get 17deg. BTDC my distributor was turned almost all the way to the desination R . I assumed the adjustment from timming marks on crank shaft would have put me some where in the middle of distributor adjustment. I noticed I had play on my distubutor cam and it would rotate with out alot of force applied to it. I wondered if the play affected my mechanical points opening and closing. Well I loosened the srcew to the cam in the distributor and shaft pulled up but now I don't think its back in the right position. I'm back firing and not able to start car How do i get the distributor cam back in the right position.

I am rebuilding my 76 280z engine and came across a broken ground wire attached to the bottom of the air flow meter bracket. I don't know where the other end is supposed to go. Three bolts attach the air flow support bracket to its engine compartment shelf. They pass through rubber grommets that keep the bracket (and air flow meter) from grounding to the rest of the car. The ground wire must serve a purpose, but none of the manuals talk about it. Is this an add-on item. I've seen it on more than one 280z, but it never is connected the same way. Any ideas?

now that I have my new cam in, I have to adjust the lifters. This probably should have been down a long time ago, but I figure a fresh cam was as good a time as any. Does anyone know what the actual specs are for adjusting the solid lifters on a 71 240z. The only numbers I can ever remember is for a toyota celica, cuz it's seven eleven. If I could just get the proper numbers for this, I should be all set to fire it up. Thanks.

it all started 2 days ago... i was driving down to a friend's house, when my charge light turned on (meaning my battery isnt being charged). looking back on it, i also smelled something that was kinda funny on the way (kinda like a roasting belt)... got there, checked my belt, looked fine, figured i and my car was just being stupid, and moved on... on the way home, my parking brake light turned on... next day, starts fine, go to drop my sister off at gymnastics, drive off, go to store for food and to cash a check at the adjoining bank, leave to go pick my sister up from gymnastics. when i tried to leave the gymnastics place, my volt gague read just under 12 volts (its usu…

OK, now I have a problem first off my 1975 z w/ the mildly hopped up L28 was burning some oil on the way back from houston where I bought it. I then did a comp check on it on found it was almost dead on 2cyls marinal on the rest. I'm in the process of figuring out what I'm going to do on the rebuild (needs rings etc) we set the valves, we put some oil in the cyl. for the compression check, just to get it as good as can be until the rebuild - now it won't run its turns over and starts with my foot to the floor, then it sputters and dies I set the timing, with it running on the starter thinking mabe that got outta whack - we had to pull the dizzy out b/c the hold down scr…

so I just need to know how to set the cam on my 240 Z at top dead center. Long story short, I put a new cam in and forgot where the last one was set on the timing gear, so I just set the motor at TDC and figured I do it from there. Thanks Parker

Hi Currently swapping my single carb for some dual SU's from a 240Z, and have a question... I have the non-stock air filter, so how should I connect the hose thing coming off the top of the head? Most other hoses and stuff line up pretty perfectly (with the exception of some weird things at the back and the throttle/choke). Here are some pictures I found for reference.. see what I mean? http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3508&password=&sort=7&thecat=998 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5777&password=&sort=7&thecat=998 The little air filter thingy on hte second one looks mighty fine, but I'd rather not…

After carefully looking at my tank after getting it from Moyers I noticed that there were no openings in the baffle to allow fuel to level from one side of the baffle to the other. I called Moyers and they were not very helpfull. At best they said if I shipped it back they would look at it. I used a dremil tool an a long piece of wood and was able to open a slot between the baffle and the tank about one inch long and about 1/32 wide . Is there any one out there that can tell me how large should the openings be and where they are located. I am sorry I didn't look at the tank that carefully before I sent it out. Apparentlly the lining material they used sealed of…
