Well I took the plugs out, cleaned them, put them back in. I drove about 100 miles, then checked the plugs again. I only noticed a small amount of oil ( very small ) on the threads. I'm wondering if, when I adjusted my valves, some oil dripped down to the plugs ( I also gapped my plugs on that day ) and worked its way down the threads. My reason for thinking this is that there was oil on every plug, but there was only oil on the threads. There is no evidence of oil on the tip of the plug. any cause for worry??? would a compression check tell me anything??

I'm in the process (spending lots of money) of restoring a 72 240, and I need some advice on reparing the inner fender below the battery tray. Can I purchase a new inner fender? If so where? Do I need to try and find a doner car to get one. It sounds like it is a common problem, so I'm not sure if a donor car would be very easy to find. I guess the last option is to fabricate my own patch panels. I've already purchased new rails, battery tray, and I plan on replacing the floor pans.

I have a 280ZX 5 speed in my 72 240Z... recentley I have been having trouble getting the tranny to stay in reverse, I would have to hold it in, but now I have to hold it as hard as I can, and it still barely will stay in without clicking and popping in and out, What will be the exact cause within the transmission itself? I ruled out the differential being the problem, as the car rolls freely when in neutral backwards... any suggestion?? thanks. dave.

Hi All, This is a weird one, well for me anyway. I'll give you the background first: I've just replaced the rear brake shoes, struts and springs, along with the front springs. On hooking all of the break lines back up and bleeding the rubbish out of the lines I can't get a firm brake pedal. Before starting out the brakes were OK, if a little spungy, now (without the engine running) I can get it back to OK, but not hard. Now the weird bit is when I start the engine the pedal goes limp. I don't mean soft I mean LIMP. I can actually push it to the floor with one finger? I'm thinking dollars and the master cylinder but is there anything else i can check? Any kind of valves th…

The smog pump in my 72 has developed a deep tapping noise. Any ideas before I tear into it.

Someone just asked me if I had "...a mustache bar for a 240..." Now as I recall the mustache bar is specific to the diff, either an R180 or an R200 and not the model Z. Is this correct? If not then what models had the same mustache bar as the 240, that is if any others were the same?

I am having some problems with my brakes. First, they are not very strong. They won't lock the tires up and I have to put a lot of force on them to just get them to stop quickly. What could be the cause of this, or is it just how they are? Just within the past week I have noticed a new problem. When I apply the brakes, the engine's revs increase. The harder I apply the brakes, the more the engine revs. It never revs more than a few hundred, but it still it annoying and makes stopping a little more difficult. Any idea what could cause this problem. Like I said, it just recently started happening and I haven't changed anything on the car. Thanks!

Been driving my car every day, no problems. This morning on the way to work the temp redjacked and stayed there, or just below. I'm pretty sure my coolant level is ok, but can't check for sure until it cools down. What else could be a possible culprit?

OK. here is a problem that has me baffled and really upset. First let me tell you my engine configuration. I put a 280ZX engine with flat top pistons in my 240z. I put the E88 head on top of that engine. I also put a mild performance cam on that head. SU carbs. I know that this will yeild a high compression ratio but I thought it would be acceptable. This engine was running great for about 2 weeks I was having fun and then all of a sudden while I was accelerating the engine became very weak. If I step on the gas hard it backfires. When I accelerate the exhaust sounds funny it kinda sounds like a rattle out of the exhaust(not muffler rattling against frame). Now …

Well, care and the "right" tools haven't worked this time. On the right front brake line from the proportioning valve to the bracket/hose fitting, I have managed to pretty badly round the flare fitting at the wheel end. Penetrating oil, 10mm flare wrench, emory paper on the tube trying to remove rust before turning, etc. didn't help. The nut actually broke loose and started to turn, but must have bound on the tube even though I cleaned the stupid thing up. I thought it kept turning, but apparently it was rounding off, even in the flare wrench. So. Before I go at it with the vice grips, any other suggestions? I searched the forums, and didn't see any other ideas. Is…
