Guys I almost have the car running tonight!!! I just installed dual weber DGV's and a full msa 6 to 1 header, with 2.5inch exhaust. I took all of my old smog crap off and put all of that on. SHE WONT START NOW!?!?! I did at least 90% of it right:stupid:. I cranked it for 2 minutes then found that a lead was off of the coil. I thought it was ignition so i put the mallory distributor and new plug wires. I am 92% sure plugs are in right place ( I labled them on car i took off). Now THe webers are HISSING AND POPPING when i crank it to start... I have heard about this b4 but dont know what it is....... PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really want to hear it tonight!

i could use some help diagnosing my problem, or at least where to look. here's where it is: last weds replaced thermostat, ran a little hotter but stable temp. thursday the wire that runs from the main harness to the solenoid shorted and caused a short somewhere, and i think fried a cell in my battery. was able to jump start, and drive home. friday, car just quit. no nothing when i turn the key. also, when the wire shorted, my amp guage filled up with smoke, so i think that's toast too, although after i jumped it and it ran, the needle was moving around (it would jump when i turned on the lights). i've tried a different battery - still didn't start or do anything. i also …

I get up in the morning and my 76 280z starts right up, if I let it idle too long it will stall out. I will drive it for a little bit (under 5 minutes) and turn it off and when I try to start it up it wont start. The few times it does start it will idle at 500 rpm and with any pressure on the gas peddle lots of grey smoke comes puring out the back. But, if i let it sit for a while (7 hours today and yesterday) it will start up again no problem. Any one seen anything like this?

i took my car in to the shop to get it to pass smog, and they said they couldnt do it because they couldnt adjust the timing. supposedly the pulley had "slipped" on the harmonic balancer, so the groove doesnt line up where its supposed to. and they wanted to charge me $220 for a new harmonic balancer!!! ive never even heard of a pulley slipping, but i thought to myself, why cant i just get the engine to TDC, and then just take white out and draw a line where the mark is supposed to be, so i dont have to pay 200 bux for a new pulley?? the only problem is, how can i get the engine to TDC without the timing mark. can anyone provide some insight into this? what do i wa…

I have a 75 automatic & I was looking thru my MSA catalog and saw that my car has 2 gaskets to be replaced when needed. 1 being a trans oil pan gasket & the other a rear seal gasket. I can take my car around the block & once I pull in my driveway, I see smoke coming from my trans when I look down thru the engine area. I only smokes when it is driven not when it's warming up. Are these gaskets fairly easy to replace in my driveway?

well, I actually posted my questions on the general forum, but now think it's better to ask them here. So basically I need to know two things. I just got a 71 240 Z and the carbs are pretty much shot (dual two barrel webbers) so I'm thinking I'll just get new ones. But I've heard arguments both ways that the dual webbers aren't the best way to go. So should I just get some SU carbs or something along those lines? I'm not trying to biuld a drag racer, just a fun driver, and I do have a little money to spend. My other question was about my intake manifold. The previous owner took off all the emmisions control and basically cut the rail and pinched off the ends. I'm …

My newly acquired 71 hasn't turned over in at least 10 years. That being said, I'd like to verify it isn't seized. I understand that I should place some oil in each cylinder and probably pull the cover and put some oil on the rockers, etc. After that, though, how do I manually turn the engine? Can this be done without removing the radiator, etc? Don't even suggest anything involving electric... whole other can or worms not yet address.. First priority to strip care to frame and pull engine. I'm told, the engine and tranny were rebuild shortly before it was 'parked'.

My father in law has decided to give me his 1973 240z::classic: It is a clean car, 50K miles, great body, the problem is it has not been started in 8-10 years and needs some basic work. The car is in Southern New Jersey and I live in Rhode Island. I need to find an appropriate shop to work on the car so I can drive it to Rhode Island. I have failed looking on the internet, calling local Nissan dealers and am now looking for anyone who has information. Can anyone give me some references Thanks
