i took my car in to the shop to get it to pass smog, and they said they couldnt do it because they couldnt adjust the timing. supposedly the pulley had "slipped" on the harmonic balancer, so the groove doesnt line up where its supposed to. and they wanted to charge me $220 for a new harmonic balancer!!! ive never even heard of a pulley slipping, but i thought to myself, why cant i just get the engine to TDC, and then just take white out and draw a line where the mark is supposed to be, so i dont have to pay 200 bux for a new pulley?? the only problem is, how can i get the engine to TDC without the timing mark. can anyone provide some insight into this? what do i wa…

Hi all, I have just registered and am very interested in any z cars and information about them! The 240 and 260z's are especially interesting and I would love it if someone could reply on what to look for when purchasing... would it be worth it restoring one? Cheers, Tom

I have a 75 automatic & I was looking thru my MSA catalog and saw that my car has 2 gaskets to be replaced when needed. 1 being a trans oil pan gasket & the other a rear seal gasket. I can take my car around the block & once I pull in my driveway, I see smoke coming from my trans when I look down thru the engine area. I only smokes when it is driven not when it's warming up. Are these gaskets fairly easy to replace in my driveway?

well, I actually posted my questions on the general forum, but now think it's better to ask them here. So basically I need to know two things. I just got a 71 240 Z and the carbs are pretty much shot (dual two barrel webbers) so I'm thinking I'll just get new ones. But I've heard arguments both ways that the dual webbers aren't the best way to go. So should I just get some SU carbs or something along those lines? I'm not trying to biuld a drag racer, just a fun driver, and I do have a little money to spend. My other question was about my intake manifold. The previous owner took off all the emmisions control and basically cut the rail and pinched off the ends. I'm …

My newly acquired 71 hasn't turned over in at least 10 years. That being said, I'd like to verify it isn't seized. I understand that I should place some oil in each cylinder and probably pull the cover and put some oil on the rockers, etc. After that, though, how do I manually turn the engine? Can this be done without removing the radiator, etc? Don't even suggest anything involving electric... whole other can or worms not yet address.. First priority to strip care to frame and pull engine. I'm told, the engine and tranny were rebuild shortly before it was 'parked'.

My father in law has decided to give me his 1973 240z::classic: It is a clean car, 50K miles, great body, the problem is it has not been started in 8-10 years and needs some basic work. The car is in Southern New Jersey and I live in Rhode Island. I need to find an appropriate shop to work on the car so I can drive it to Rhode Island. I have failed looking on the internet, calling local Nissan dealers and am now looking for anyone who has information. Can anyone give me some references Thanks

How's it going everybody. I have been trying to get a part for my thermostat housing and no one has it. I tried Msa, victoria, and the nissan dealer, no luck. What I am looking for is part of the thermostat housing. It is a hose connector to the thermostat housing. It is off a 72 240z. The housing directs water in two routes from the housing. One is directly into the engine where it is bolted on at and the other is through a hose that goes into the intake manifold. There is a connector that screws into the housing that the hose going to the intake manifold attaches to. This connector is what I am looking for. I can't believe something this simple is keeping my c…

Ok, this noise started last weekend in my 1978 280z. I think I went too fast over a speed bump at work and now i have a "clunk" noise when i go over bumps. right now it only does it when i go over any kind of bump, i got under the car today because I thought a nut came loose on my diffy, or mustache bar, everything looks OK and tight. I just got new KYB struts so i dont think that's it. I thought maybe it's a bushing that went bad, maybe in the mustache bar or front diff. i visually inspected those areas too and it looks ok, this noise is only on the passenger side, in the rear. can any one know what elsei i can check and have this problem before? thanks Nick

I still don't have instruments lights! in my '71 Z. The dome light, the glovebox light and map light all work, everything works except for the instrument and auto. trans. selector lights. What am I missing? this happened after I installed a Hitachi AM/FM radio and burned out the instr./dome light fuse, I'm pretty sure its because I hadn't grounded out the unit to metal/frame. I've checked all the fuses and some of the instruments bulbs, they are all good, what could be wrong? I also have made sure the blue lead to the radio lighting lead is not shorted out against metal. I think maybe I burned a lead to the instruments but I wouldn't which wire it might be, but thats w…
