Sorry if this doesn't seem to quite fit anyone's idea of an emergency, but my purchase of a Z is falling through. The guy who agreed to sell me the 78 280z 2+2 for $600 was told by a gentleman in the next town who is selling his restored 73 for $8000 that the car I'm trying to purchase may be special. So, what I'd like all you Z buffs to do is refer to the pictures I posted on another thread (http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6739)and reply as to whether or not the car is worth thousands more. I need as many replies as possible by tomorrow. I'm not a rich man but have elbow grease to spare and want something that I can eventually be p…

I took the cap and rotor off, along with the points, of my old distributor in my 240, and this is what I'm looking at now. While the little instructions book that came with my Pertronix ignitor talks about simply slipping the wires out of the dizzy, i don't really see how that's possible. Can anyone help me out? There's no socket or hole or anything that the wires can run out of. Where am I supposed to thread these wires out of the distributor to get to the coil? Am I missing something?

I looked at a '70 240Z today and it seems to be in pretty good condition. Below is a summary of what I found and would like to know what you here think is a fair price for the car. - appears to be original orange paint, badly in need of repainting - rearend clunks when shifting (problem unknow) - breaks are firm - pass side floorpan and rail under it have minor rust (maybe repair but replace would probably be better) - rust under battery tray (appears to only be surface rust but was hard to tell with the battery tray still in the car) - leaky rear hatch, spare tire well was full of water from this morning's rain, but metal is solid and no signs of rust there...yet - driv…

My 72 240z died on me today. I went to drop the clutch out of this parking lot I was in and next thing I know the car is running like crap almost like a choking noise, it made a weird rattling noise when I reved up the engine I pulled over to the side of the road and look at the engine. Nothing externally was different. I then turned on the car. It had to have the choke all the way on and it was burning out black smoke. Then the smoke cleared and I only experienced the rattling noise on the revs. I had to have it towed home because it wouldn't start, I couldn't get it to turn over at all. I tried to pop the clutch on my very hilly driveway and had no luck the rpm w…

I ran across a guy who has some ground controll suspension but he says I need 280z front strut housing to put it on my 240z. He also said it is a good thing to do because I have more clearance around the inserts... What exactly is this mod and how hard is it to do? Thanks

hi, i got an R200 LSD(86 300zx turbo) the other day (this time it is the correct R200). it does not have a drive shaft connected to it. According to the paragraph below i need a different drive shaft to install it to a 72 240z. from what car will i get this drive shaft. i have the original 4 spd in front. thanks, hf the paragraph below is taken from another z-page, i just dont know which one. i been to a lot of z sites this morning. The input flange is another story however. You either have to change your drive shaft yoke to match the input shaft on the differential, or you have to change the input shaft on the differential to match the yoke on your stock drive shaft. M…

I bought a 1972 240Z a week ago. I was cleaning the dash and I pushed a little too hard on the center gauge (fuel) and the plastic pushed in and pushed the gauge back out about 1/4 inch, just enough that the needles hit the plastic and do not work now. I have tried to get up behind there with my arm and a big screwdriver to push it back but have had no luck. What can I do? Will I have to remove the dash? Or should I say, will I have to take it to a Nissian dealer to have it fixed? Are the gauges in a housing of some sort? Does anyone have any ideas? I almost cried when I did this! There is no radio at all in the car right now which helps but I still can't get up behind th…

Ok, a few problems. We were putting in a new reluctor on our distributer and we dropped a small screw down into the distributer. We had to take it out to get the screw out. When doing this we are not sure if we got it back into the right position (the right way or 180 degrees off. It did not cause any major problems, but when we were checking our timing, we discovered that at the time we are supposed to see the notch, the notch is on the exact opposite side. Is this what would happen if the distributer was turned 180 degrees,or are there any other suggestions on what might be causing this.

As I like to joke (but its always true), as soon as I finish a project on my car and its running great, something else fails the next day. This time, the day after i overhauled my brakes, i think i blew a fuel pump. I was all eager and ready to go driving (for the first time this year) and this happened. My '73Z was in storage all winter, with a full tank of gas and some fuel stabilizer. I've been driving it around in town for 2 months now without any problems (other than the brakes). Yesterday I drove it a tad and it sounded underpowered, like there was a problem with fuel delivery. If you gunned it, the rpms would fall. Today it didn't start at all. It turned over, ra…
