I just got my first z. It is a 1973 240z that I bought from a guy 100 miles out of dallas for 1800$ I am no mechanic and dont know much about these cars but I really want to learn. The car has 91k original miles repainted white beige a couple years ago(okay paint) and only has a rust spot the size of a dime on the bottom left part of the rear window next to rubber. It was broken into a few months before he sold it and they broke steering columb and one door lock. I just need to know some resources I need to start fixin this baby up. Seller told me a new tire would get rid of the vibration that comes on at about 60mph, did that and still vibrates. The car pulls to t…

The attached picture is of the grommet on the passenger footwell kickpanel where the cowl drain hose goes through. The drain hose has been removed. It was just loosely glued in place. I'd like to remove this grommet, since as you can see, there is a bit 'O rust on the firewall right beside it that will need to be fixed, and I suspect welding that close wouldn't do it any good. I've poked, prodded, pulled, etc. at it, and it isn't apparent to me how it is attached. It doesn't feel like how the firewall grommets just have a groove that the sheet metal fits in. I've felt around inside the opening, and I actually can't feel a definate edge on the inside, so I'm a little…

Hi all, has anyone got a picture of where the correct position is to place axle stands at the REAR of a Z? I couldnt find a good safe place to put them so I ended up reversing the rear of the car onto ramps, works fine... but now that I need to adjust the handbrake I need the wheels to be free moving so i'll have to revert to axle stands. Thanks

Hi Guys, I've been having alot of problems with my starter and starter scelenoid on my 75' 280Z. I would turn the key, and get nothing. It is not my battery. When I would hit the starter scelinoid, It would crank up after that. I was on my way to a NJ Z club meeting today, and I parked somewhere. When I got back to the car, turned the key, nothing. I took out my magic tool (a 1/2" rachet) and I hit the scelenoid several times, I got back in, and still nothing. I took the scelenoid off and lubricated it. Now I just need to know. When I put on the scelenoid, Does the little hole in the scelenoid plunger fit around the metal tab coming out of the starter? If anyone coul…

Hi all! OK, here's the story: late 260Z with 72 SU carbs. Been hibernating since November, got it out last week for Spring, also to install my new Fireball XR700 ignition. Pulled forward after starting it, and had no brakes:cry: So i went ahead and installed the ignition unit, and got it to run well in the garage, though i had to turn the distributor ahead as much as i could to get her running well. Parked it and ordered a rebuilt master cylinder, called a buddy with a muffler/brake shop to install the MC since i am working too much this month:sleepy: So last night i have a chance to drop the Z at his shop, its near freezing, but dry, so my wife drives to pick me up. C…

I am getting clutch slippage in only 3rd gear, what could this be. I will start in 1st and it climbs up on the old rpm gauge fine, same with second, and then when I shift to third I get a high rev up but it is like the gear isn't completely engaged for a second. Then it is like it finally catches up with itself and begins to engage the gear. Whats this all about? FrankensteinZ Ps: pictures coming soonROFL

i need help! i finally got my Z running with the dellortos, and she sounds cool!!!! however, one problem.... when i punch the gas, it bogs horribly bad and tries to stall. if i accelerate slowly, it works ok. both of these are under no load. under load, around 2500-3000 rpm's it just stops accelerating and looses all power. if i put in the clutch and pump the gas, eventually she catches and then takes off like no tomorrow! i believe the emulsion tubes are too lean for the application. does anyone know where to buy them or does anyone have some they'd be willing to sell??? i tried CB Performance in california. ordered tubes and filters. today, i just get filters a…
