Can anyone suggest any nice aftermarket steering wheels for the Z? I am looking at Momo and Sparco at the moment, seen some nice ones on their site, but quite hard to decide if they will suit the Z interior.. I like these so far made by MOMO. What do you think?? Help me choose . This ones called Club 4 This one's called Race This one's called Fashion This one's called Fighter (leather wood option shown) Fighter without the wood This one's the Champion This one's not made by Momo, its called Stock If anyone wants to share their Pics of wheels in their Z, it would help loads in deciding on one.. Please post below.. Thanks for the help

I have not worked with SU's befor and I need help getting my z started. after it has been sitting for 13 years. Car was running great when it was parked. The book I have has no info on trouble shooting it not starting. All fule pumps are working (electriccal and mech) I checked the dampers and the oil seems low. What should I do... No I will not sell it yet. 1. What oil do you put into the carbs the book calls for something called everyman oil. what the heck it that and what is the current replacement for it. 2. How much should I put in. There does not seem to be a measure stick or line on it. Please note that they are not dry just low on the oil. 3. I put a few gallons…

I've got another problem with my Z (1976 280z). It only happens sometimes, I think the first time it happened was after hard acceleration, but that doesn't seem to be necessary to trigger it anymore. When it happens the tach will jump like crazy, from say 4k to 7k (into the red zone), at the same time the car is lurching back and forth (corresponds with the tach). If I get going too slow, it just plain stalls. If I put it in park and start it back up it wil run fine. I'm guessing this is a transmission problem, rather than electrical or fuel. Does anyone have any ideas on this? It makes sense, because it happens after the tranny has been stressed. It almost feels like it…

Hi all, This is my first post. However, I've been lurking for some time and have recieved alot of valuble information from this site. I have a 71' 240Z that has an electrical problem that has me perplexed ( which is quite easy to do btw :cheeky: ). Frequently, when I turn off the ignition, current is still running through the system. I know this by the fact that the red brake light in the speedometer stays on and my battery will go dead if I just remove the key and leave. It doesn't do this everytime I turn the car off but it does it quite often. Jiggling the key, turning the car off and on (including restarting it) usually doesn't help. My only way of getting around …

I haven't run my Z in about 2 weeks since I have been working out some electrical issues involving the burned out fuse box and being busy with some other things. Today after I put in the 'new' fuse box and tried to fire it up, it(the engine) ran way worse than before. The electrial systems like lights, radio, etc worked just fine, however the car was very tough to get running, and when it finally started to turn under its own power, it had a very unstable idle (not really idle I suppose, since it required me giving it gas to keep it going at this bad rythym) that seemed very erratic... sort of like only 3-4 of the cylinders were combusting. The engine would turn in this …

Got my '72 240Z about a month or so ago. It had no gas tank, so one of the nice members on this board sold me one! (thanks again David!) It had been sitting for a year or more, though before then I saw the owner working on it and it was running, if not great. So, I got it all hooked up the best I could figure it was supposed to per the Haynes manual. It seemed pretty self evident. I changed the oil/filter. I just want to know if there is anything else I NEED to do before I gas it up and try cranking it over. Anything I should check? Anything I shouldn't do? Thanks for the advice. Matt

It has been since Aug since I have been out to this site. Thanks again for all the info that all of you gave. It helped a lot. I have been making steady progress on restoring my Z to running shape. A little history. I Purchased a 73 240Z from my old Navy buddy ($200). He was the original owner of the car. The Z was parked in the garage 20 years ago because the battery had died and he was un-employed at the time. No other mechanic problems existed at the time the battery died. He loved the car and just never got around to fixing it. During the years that it was parked the mice decided to make a home in the glove box and fill the under side of the seats with dog food that …

I have pulled the brake drum and have the correct stud, but it doesn't look like I have the clearance inside to tap out the old stud because of the length. What else do I have to disassemble? Can anyone help?

I had two valves hung up and removed the head and brought it to a local engine rebuilder . He found the head out of flat by .026. I agreed to have him send it to a place in canada and they heat treated the head to flatten it and took a trim coat of .006 inches. They did a beautifull job. The engine rebuilder will have it ready when I get back home. My question is do I have to treat the head gasket in any special way, that is , need any grease or lubricant. I have had various opinions on this gasket. My z is a1971 and I have had it in my garage fo 14 years waiting for time to restore it. Like all z cars this vintage I will have to do a good deal of work on the q…

Had a strange one today. While driving home from work at expressway speed, my tach started jumping between 2000 and 4000 RPM. While the tach was jumping, the engine would have a slight miss or chug. Very minor but noticable. Below 2000 RPM she runs smooth as silk. When I got home, I cheked the points, cap and all wiring to the ignition system. Every thing looked OK. After cooling down, I went for a warm up drive to lash my valves. The car ran fine. After lashing the valves I went for a test drive. The car runs great. My car has 100% stock ignition system. Any of you Z gurus have any ideas about this one? Could it be the tach? Or maybe the coil getting hot? …

Sorry if this question is answered somewhere on the site already. I just bought (haven't even picked it up yet) '73 240Z that has been sitting for a couple of years. It needs some work- Gas tank drain/reseal; carbs; tune-up...and I'm sure there will be plenty more. I'm looking for a reliable/trustworthy mechanis in the Dallas are that I can drop the car off to and will do a great job. Can anyone out there assist? Can't wait to get this running and take her out. My Dad had a 280Z and it was always my favorite car. Thank you, in advance, for the assistance.
