So after the discussion we had here about swapping in an L28 LR160 alternator in order to do away with the 240Z voltage regulator I went to Zhome as instructed and followed the instructions word for word. THey are in short: Get LR160 (mine is off of an '81 280ZX) Get matching (longer) fan/alt belt Unplug v.regulator On the engine wire harness side of the v.regulator connector connect: _ the white wire to the yellow wire _ the black/white to the white/black _ and don't do anything with the remaining black wire. _ it didn't say anything about the condenser that was grounded with one of the v.reg mounting 10mm bolts so I left there - still grounded. reconnect the wires that …

I recently drove my newly purchased Z 1700 miles across country to get it home. About 3 hours from home I have a beearing sound coming from my engine. I bought a listening device and this is what I found. I seems like a bearing or rough noise from the positive displacement air pump equipped on some 240/260Z's. According to the net (my manual is in transit), this acts as a Anti Backfire valve, check valve, and an air pump relief valve. It is located on the drivers side opposite the Alternator. Before I start the process of replacement, I thought someone might have some information. 1. Will my engine have problems if I go to replace this part and do not have installed. …

Morning everybody, Have you noticed that if you don't know what something is called you are faced with leafing through hundreds of pages of service manual in hops of finding a drawing of the part you want to know more about.... I need some help as I'm unsure what these items are. I am looking to doing some cleanup in the engine bay and moving things around - thus the question.... the top is a vent which connects the block with ??? I don't think it's ever been correctly connected - I know i am getting fumes from it but otherwise is it hampering anything else?? the middle is on the firewall between what once was my heater hoses and the stock battery location. what's it…

I can't figure this out. Everytime I brake hard, then come to a stop, my RPM's drop to the point of almost stalling. Then, after a few seconds, the RPM's pick back up. Could this weight transfer affect the fuel to the carbs?? Maybe not enough fuel in the float chamber?? The harder I brake the worse it gets. Anyone have an answer???

My 1978 280Z is acting funny. It is reading that when the car is on the battery is charged to 16 volts. When I turn on the fan or a/c the volt meter pegs to the top. The instrumentation lights get brighter for a brief moment. Then my clock works, but then like 45 min after the car is off it stops. Still the car used to start right up. it ran rough. This monning I went to start it. it started and turned off, I didn't give it any gas. I did this twice. Now the starter cranks but the engine won't start. Maybe the car needs a tune up. The battery doesn't seem low but is it possible for a alternator to overcharge a battery, or put too more than 12V into the system? Thanx, …

My 78 280z has a weird suspension problem(I think it's a suspension problem) The car drives great on a smooth road, but when the car hits a good series of bumps it makes a noise that i belive is coming from the rear passanger side. It kinda sounds like a flat tire. Accompanied by this noise some times is the rear pulls right. It feels like the tire wants to come off. This even happens at speeds between 15-30mph. Now the bumps i'm referring to are not that bad as my 240z easily goes over them at 20-25mph. I put on new tires and the car has been sitting almost a year since it's been driven. Help!! Thanx, Ernie H. fstr240z@excite.com 73 240z(my babe) 78 280z(my soon to be…

recently i was driving my car, i had no problems getting to where i was going, but on the way home the engine felt like it was going to die. the idle dropped and then went back to normal about 3 times, i just thought it was a fluke and i proceeded to get on the freeway. then as i was just getting on, i had barely any power and i was pretty scared it was going to die. so i took the first exit, i was waiting at a red light to pull into a parking lot and take a look under the hood and it died at the red light. i had to push the car into the nearest parking lot, i tried starting it about 15 times and it would just crank but no go. i gave it gas and everything and i could …

Hello Z freaks the name is cardogman and I have yet another problem. I need a diagnosis. Here goes. Last week I had Tokicos installed . I don't know whether this sound was occuring before or after the installation. This what I here inside the vehicle and if I role down the window I seem to here it outside the vehicle sort of near the front drivers side wheel. Tick Tick Ticking. It speeds up when I go faster and it slows down when I go slower. I think I know what it is but I am not sure and it's driving me crazy. It's not very loud. What is the problem? I am cardogman Burt thanks :stupid:

Rear Bushes

Ok guys After getting bugged by the creaks coming from the rear end of late (just the car), I decided to have a good look on the weekend only to find that the LH inner transverse bolt can move side to side by about an inch. Maybe this relates to people following me around a track saying the car looks tailee. The RH bolt can move around a quarter of an inch but I suppose it must have some movement as it is known as a flexible bushing. I intend to replace all the bushings I can at the back. I have read some horror stories about replacing these bushes and people destroying bolts, inner casings etc, and generally having a lousy time getting them out and back in again. The…
