Hi Guys, Finally got my Zed running well and been driving it pretty hard. I didn't realise how much I missed it until I started driving again. Anyways, the problem I have is in the rear, but not the normal bumps, knocks and groans. Basically, when I down change (5 speed manual) abruptly the rear makes a horrible grinding noise that sounds like steel on steel! I almost sounds like something repeatedly hitting the floor pan? For example, the car is doing say 4500rpm in 3rd and I drop it to second while braking. Normally I would expect it to try and pressure lock, lean forwards abit and be fine. Instead I can't do this because of teh horrid noise from the rear (it sounds li…

Hello all, first and formost, this being my first post i'd like to say that i'm thoroughly impressed with the organization and knowledge this site has to offer, and i'm eager to find all of helpfull information offered to make my Z project just that much easier. with that said, i'll get down to brass tacks... I just installed a rebuilt 50a alternator, well after starting the car i proceded to check the engine just to make sure all was well, and i noticed the "A" terminal on the alternator was sparking, so i cut the power and inspected alternator only to find that the plastic around the "A" terminal was completely melted and the wire leading to it was totaly fried. now …

I have an 81 280ZX. Two days I got in the car after letting it warm up for about 5 to 10 minutes. I noticed the smell of gasoline. Now everytime I come to a stop after driving, I smell fuel. I have started the car up and checked under the hood for any obvious leaks but, don't see any. I looked at all the injectors, fuel rail, fuel line etc: Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated. BTW. After warming up, the car runs fine. Thanks

Yes dammit, the Z would not start due to a flat battery. I did not have time to tinker around to find out what was wrong, but I think my alternator has gone out viking funeral style. Tell me, does this sound like a dead alternator... The last time out it started OK and revved fine in neutral, but when I put it in drive the engine almost stalled and ran with no power whatsoever. I'm talking 0 to 60 kmh in 1 minute or no pick up at all when going up hill. I nursed it home (I was only 1 km away), then this morning the battery was flat. Other possibly related symptoms: The alternator has a yellowy white powder build up on the outside - just noticed it this morning. One cylin…

I'm haveing so much trouble with the electrical in my Datsun since winter has started...First off, the other day, I had my left turn signal on, and was going thru a corner when I heard a loud pop and the car began running like crap. So I stopped, checked my fuse in the engine compartment from the starter to the alt, and it was blown. Replaced it, and drove home...took dash apart, and found the source of my short and repaired it. Well, my turn signal doesn't work anymore...right one works fine, but the left just doesn't come on at all. The dash light for it comes on dimly, but doesn't blink and the outside light for it doesn't come on at all. Whats going on here? Flasher b…

Clue number one: windows fogged when the car heated up. Clue number two: I could smell coolant. Clue number three: I found a small puddle on the passenger side floorboard. Does this sound like a leak in the heater core? Is this a major or an easy one? Anyone had experience?
