I recently had a 71 motor and a 72 4 speed put into my 73 (that had been sitting for 7 years) that had an automatic transmission. I had some wiring problems afterward but I figured them out and got it started and running tonight. I adjusted the clutch pedal height, started the engine, put it into gear and nothing happened. The engine didn't seem to grab onto the gears at all. The first couple of times the clutch pedal went all the way to floor with very little resistance, after that it only went down about 3 " and there was a little resistance. Still no gears and the engine noise didn't change. Any ideas? Maybe bleed the clutch? I thought if there was a problem with the c…

On my 75' 280 Z my oil pressure/tempature gauge does not work In the Hayes manual it says that the instrument voltage regulator could be bad. Does such a part exist? If it does, where is it, and could that be the problem? If it is not what can it be? Jeff

i have a problem with my car, as the vent flap in my heater box has become stuck in the open position, letting in the cool outside air all the time. I'm part way into it, having removed the heater fan motor, and have run into difficulty getting any further. What I really need to access is the area where the cable end is. My body and chassis manual does not have any information regarding this area, so I'm looking to purchase a book with good information, or talk with somebody who knows their way around these things. Thanks, Devin aka 72240Z email: 64bowtie@quik.com

Just wondering - were they standard on '71 Z's as I think I have one (either that or 2 mufflers...) but I found that they were only standard on all cars from the mid-70s...

I am a little confused when it comes to the operation of the fuel tank, though the concept is simple. Why does the tank have all of the vent lines (not the evaporative emissions stuff) going to the front of the car and terminating in the engine compartment? I want to install a fuel cell, so what kind of vent lines will I need. I am confused. Has anyone done a writeup on their fuel cell installation? -David

I'm trying to locate the individual male and female pins found in the connectors throughout the electrical harnesses in my 78 280. I believe the manufacturer may be Molex. I know there are insertion/removal tools and various sizes of these pins. Has anyone found a source for these items? Perhaps a listing of the different sizes and locations? The connectors I'm concerned with are under the dash and a few of these pins have corroded and broken but the plastic connector housing and wiring is in fine shape. It would be so easy to remove the bad pins, cut and recrimp new ones on have a new connector. Any help would be appreciated, I'll keep researching and if I learn anythin…

Engine: L24 The 5 cam towers that hold our camshaft in place are themselves held in (partly) by 12mm bolts. In all the step by step assembly pics in both the Haynes and Datsun Service Manuals they skip the part where they attach those to the cylinder head and also ommit any kind of torque specs either. Does anyone know the info I require? And no (in case I was unclear above) I am not referring to the head bolts which are torqued down 20, then 40, then 60ft-lbs. thank you. -e

When I push in the clutch on my 70 240 (with a 78 transmission) its impossible to shift into gear (reverse or 1st), unless I let the engine run for a few minutes, in neutral. Then I can shift but its difficult. After a little driving it shifts well, but whenever I start i go through this process. What's wrong and what should I do?
