has anyone tried carfax.com? i did, and it said the vin needs to be 17 digits long. as far as i know, zcar vin #'s are only 10 digits. were the car histories just not recorded 30 years ago?

i've had my 240Z for just over a week now and the engine started to sputter today....if i'm at a red light at idle the car will sometimes start to drop in revs and then just die...and when i accelerate it feels if the engine isn't running at it's full potential...it sputters as the revs go up and it feels as if i'm running on less than 6 cylinders...i also have trouble starting the car now whereas i always noticed that it used to start really easy before...easier than any car i've started before...i used to turn the ignition for like a 1/4 second and i'd let go and it would fire up....one problem i had since i purchased the car was that when i'm accelerating it usually wo…

i jus got a '71 240Z and there's a strong smell of gas inside the car...even if i roll down the windows and open the sunroof it still smells...when i test drove it before i bought it i never smelled this gas smell...i only smell a little exhaust fumes if i'm not moving.... anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? my clothes smell like gas...it's bad enough to annoy me but i'm not really getting high....yet...any help would be appreciated...it's really hard to drive with the smell...

what color do the gagues glow? im guessing green, since the gagues have a green plastic shroud over the bulb...would getting different colored bulbs make any difference?

my gague lights don't work! i've checked the lightbulbs themselves, they work. the fuse box has been checked thoroughly(w/ multimeter too! ). i even disconnected the leads from the control and touched them (to, in effect, bypass the switch to see if that was what was causing the prob), but to no avail. am i missing something?

Hi all, My 280Z (carburetted) was fine yesterday but today ..... drove to work, she started revving high (approx 4500 rpm). Kept doing this even when warm (so I don't think the automatic choke). When I tried her before from cold she didn't do it while idling, but when I started driving she started doing it again. It's like having cruise control .... with my foot off the accelerator I can do 50kph! I DON'T HAVE CRUISE CONTROL. Nor do I want it! Any advice?? Will I kill my Z by driving home from work??

hey what's up, I'm new here. I was at the local carmart today and there's a 71 240z for sale. looks pretty nice. Has a 280z engine/tranny swap and a nice air dam. going for 2900. Could you guys do me a huge favor and give a list of stuff to check on it. Need it ASAP because i'm checking it tomorrow. Thanks in advance.

in my 240z, i have a L28 with dual webers. the gas pedal seems like it's kind of hard to push; hard enough to make you push down harder, then it kinda gives way (not that im really complaining...oh, how i love the sound of that straight six ). would some 6 in 1 oil on all of the linkage joints help? i dont know if it would help it or hurt it... also, i used some engine degreaser, and now my valve cover looks like wizz! what is all of the yellow, flaky stuff on it? the oil fill cap is peeling as well...

i've heard some people speaking of inspection for insurance. if you're insuring only the other driver (legal mininmum...it's still $130 a month!!), you don't need this inspection, right?

Please check out the attachment. I want to know if this MSD / pertronix setup will work! I bought a tach adapter from MSD but I don't know how to set that up yet. Please let me know especially if the red wire from the Pertronix can be spliced into the red from the MSD for the 12V ignition.
