Recently purchased a 1973 240z from someone who left the poor car sitting in his driveway uncovered for 8 years in New Engaland of all places, amazingly the car started after only a few tries. God these cars are dependable. I took my baby home put her in the garage and waited for winter to end. I am now in the process of pulling her apart for a complete restoration and after getting the front end apart I found that what I thought was only minor rust to the passangers side wheel housing is much worse. Unfourtunatley I am having a very hard time finding replacement housings. If anyone has any info on where I can find them it would be greatly appreciated.

i bought a '73 240z somewheres in between a month, and two months ago. since that day, i've learned a few things about the flat top carbs that everybody says i should ditch. hmmm... like the fact that they totally suck! here in good ol' utah, we've got a junkyard dedicated to the classic z. the man, who lives among the z knows them inside out, upside down, front to back, and every other way there is, i'm sure. well, now that the intro crap is through, it's time for the question. he says he can modify the carbs to run better, to not die when the weather's hot. my problem is that it would cost $400! another option is to install a holley 4-barrel (i'm leaning toward …

All bolts come out fine EXCEPT one. On rear lower control arm, at the rear hub end (not the diff end - makes sense?) the control arm is helding in by a large bolt threaded at both ends (has 17mm nuts on either end, see what I am talking about?) - this large double ended bolt is held in place in the rear hub from sliding around by a smaller (vertically positioned) bolt with a 12mm nut on it. It is this small securing bolt that I can't get off. Sure the 12mm nut comes off easily enough but then what? I've sprayed liquid wrench in there, lightly tapped it, tapped the larger 17mm double ended bolt from side to side to try to dislodge the smaller one... all for nothing... adv…

i was working on my front carb today, because of a problem with the float sticking, so fuel came out of the jet in a steady stream. i got that working again, but now i think that the carbs were adjusted to work with the other one, which was way off. if there's any way to do this without money, i would be very happy, but if i need to shell out cash, i'm willing.

Ok i know this is a question straight out of newb central but it's been on my mind for a while and you are the guys to answer it. When i fire up my 240 i notice that the lights although bright are dim compaired to when i rev the engine up. Also the wipers are slow until i hit the gas. Now i know that the faster the engine turns the more power the alternator puts out, but why do i not get the same power at idle. My other cars (30 yrs younger) have no disparity in power from idle to higher rpm's. Is this common with early Z's or do i have a slight problem that needs to be addressed. The alternator is brand new and so is the coil.

Last week I took off the steering wheel on my 240 and repainted it. All went well, or so I thought. Being the newb I am, I must have done something wrong putting it back on. I've tried several times to fix it. The problem is the horn sounds when it turns past a certain position, in both directions. Needless to say I've been driving around with the horn fuse pulled, but I don't want to drive w/o a horn. Also, it clicks terribly when I turn it and seems to get hung up on something. The spring between the wheel and the column is getting caught up in the mechanism in the column and it's actually bending. Not good. How do I get the spring set properly, and how do I get the ho…

'73 with manual transmission. Battery died when I accidentally left the accessories on. Recharged the battery, starter motor cranks, but will not start. Got a new battery (was going to get one anyway) and replaced the spark plugs (needed to anyway). Checked for spark against the block...no luck. Checked the coil-distributor wire for spark...no luck. Suspected it was a bad coil. Got a new coil and resistor but still got no spark. Turns out the coil itself isn't getting any power. Did some caveman wiring diagram interpretation...looks like one wire essentially goes from the ignition to the coil via the tach. Checked that wire and it is supplying power from the ign…

Yes that's right... my car wouldn't pass NY safety inspection this morning because my headlights turn off when the turn signal comes on . Has anyone experienced this before? I'm guessing it may be the turn signal/high beam stalk switch because the turn signals don't always work unless it's in the right position... plus the stalk is kind of "mushy" feeling ...

How do you diferintate between 240 and 280Z doors? I have been told that the latch is different. My parts car (which is for sale) and my extra doors apear to match, yet I was told years ago that there was a difference. I have someone who wants to buy them and I am not sure. Thanks, early240z@yahoo.com
