Ok so I've had my 73 240 for a week now- the first problem, a fuel leak proved to be no big deal, and took seconds to fix- happy me, untill..... For gawd knows what reason, my windscreen wipers have jammed- one second they're doing fine, then they slow then- stuck. Wont respond to the switch, and can't be forced one way or the other, I'm hoping this is some famous 240 quirk, and maybe ther's some trick to it but the previous owner- a decent guy- has no idea. Can anybody help?

While driving in heavy traffic my 260 starts sputtering. At first i thought maybe it was a cooling problem, but my gauges all read cool. This only happens at idle or near idle in usually warmer weather. I have 71' SUs. Any suggestions? Thanx

Hi All. Any clues on this one? Through trial and error with the radio out, I see that my blue radio light is very bright when the parking lights are on and the key off. But it goes very dim once the key is switched to "On". Any ideas why? Key Off, Lights On = Radio Light On Key On, Lights ON = Radio Light very dim I took the radio out to refurbish it and replace its lamp so I'm doing these test with it unmounted but plugged in. Could that be the problem too, maybe it should be mounted and grounded to work properly?. Incidentally, the dash dimmer is set to the brightest position. BTW, Testors Florescent Red paint is perfect for repainting the orange radio indicator. T…

Head light

Hey there, My driver's side head light is not as bright as the passenger side. I replaced both lights about 5 months ago. And this problem occured last week. I checked the headlights themselves by swapping left to right, right to left and the passenger side works perfect. I have cleaned the contacts on the connector plugs (the one to the bulb and the one by the horn). The light stays the same, no matter if high beam or low beam it stays wizz yellow. Besides trying to backtrack the wiring and making sure all contacts are clean, not to mention trying to find where the wire's go. Is there anything anybody can suggest? Thanks, ED

Howdy all, I've just got myself a lovely little '73 240z as far as I can see it's doing well, mechanicaly its A1 and the body is near perfect. BUT after some mild tearing around I noticed that there's a small petrol leak, on the same side as the cap, that only shows up when the car is Jerked around. (tank was exactly half full) I was wondering - worst case senario - if I need to replace the tank, is it inter-changeable with other Z models (260z etc). (In Australia BTW) Thanks R:tapemouth

Hey all, I know this is probably a dumb question but i cant remeber what causes this. I have a 71' 240z which run great except when you turn the car off it sputters and revs and doesn't fully shutoff for about 5 or so seconds. I know this is a comman occurance with cars i'm just not sure exactly what causes it. I searched the forums already and didnt find anything, if there is already a thread about this that someone knows about please let me know. Thanks in advance for any help.

A few days ago I was reading about some one who wanted to change their shifter bushings. Some one suggested the bushings be purchased before starting the job. I plan on changing my shifter bushings but I wonder if having the part number would help me. Can some one supply me with those part numbers for a 71 240Z 4 speed? A second question might be: Are these paticular part numbers necessary when ordering from the local Nissan Dealer? cliff

water leak

So after 5-1/2 years I finally get my engine started. Once the battery held a charge and it cranked over enough to suck fuel, it started right up. A little loud since the exhaust is not complete. Anyway, after running the engine for about a minute, I noticed a puddle of fluid on the floor underneath the car. I feared the worst thinking it was gas. Turns out it was coolant. Coming from the bellhousing of the transmission. Now in looking at my spare engine, the only thing I can see where water could come out of is a freeze plug on the back side of the block. Everything looked ok when I put all back together (although I did not change any freeze plugs). Is there somew…

My Z as of late sounds like it is running under water. I rebuilt a '81 L28 for my '73 in 2000, SU carbs, headers. Seemed to run fine. I knew it was running rich due to the black crap that seems to collect on the tailpipe (and about every month or so I need to clean my left taillight of that black frost). The engine has about 7000 on her. While driving home last night, was running fine. Al of a sudden the engine tone went down an octive, as if it was running under water. My guess is something fuel related. Maybe timing. Is it possible it just worked its way that far out of timing. My gas milage has been sucking lately anyway, Last carb adjust on the SUs was mid 2000. Any …
