Hello all This morning - it was 28°F - while driving to work my alternator decided that it had enough of my crap. Gauge showed absolutely no charging and the fan was having a hard time blowing any amount of air with the headlights on. Got to work turned the Z off. Got a DMM out start the car and magic the alternator works again. Its been making bad bearing noises in the past couple of weeks so upon arriving home I decided to just swap it out with a refurbished one. Come to find that the little capacitor looking thing - I'm guessing it would be the condenser is no longer connected to any part of the loom. So a few questions. 1. Is the condenser needed? I don't a…

I´m litteraly on the edge of going ballistic... It started with a simple operation of replacing my stock distributor for a 1-2-3 BT Ignition, a simple job that has turned into a electrical nightmare?! The car (with the electronic distributor) turned but hesitated to start, it gradually got worse until no reaction from the cylinders at all... Back to the drawing-board, and installed the stock distributor once again, thinking it might be a faulty out of the box electronic distributor..? No reaction at all, engine turns, I smell fuel but no bang? I have power to the coil, but no spark? I have tried to jump direct from the PLUS on the battery to the coil? …

I have the EFI Bible, FSM, this forum, and hybridz.org. Searched, read, tested and stumped. 78 280z just got it. Here is what I've replaced: Cap Rotor Wires Water temp switch Fuel Pump Injector, water temp, thermotime, tps, cold start valve connectors. Cleaned prongs and all that jazz. All fuel hoses replaced. All vacuum hoses replaced. PCV valve and hose Here is what I've done, tested/story behind all this. I got the car, it was starving for fuel. Replaced pump but still starving. Gas tank all rusted up so took it off and cleaned it Now getting a nice 36 psi. Got the car running, missing bad found out some injectors were not firing, got that all sorted out all injectors …

I removed the gas tank to have it cleaned. Will a radiator shop clean this for me? Possibly steam clean it? Now I have a bunch of questions. In preparation for starting the engine, I want to do the following before starting. 1. Compression test - is Turing the engine over by hand a valid compression test? I need to get a good gauge, any recommendation 2. I need to drain the oil, what is the best oil to use? Which filter 3. Which spark plugs? Old ones are champion RNllYC 4. Should I change the points, or just go for it? 5. Where can I get a couple straps that secure the fuel tank? Did I forget anything? The car has been setting w…

I disconnected the wiring in my 240z and removed the dash. After replacing the dash cover, I reinstalled the dash wiring and installed the dash in the car. The connectors were identified by different color tape on both sides of each connection before removal. The wiring in the car was not touched. When I try to start the car with the ignition switch, the wipers activate and the starter does not get power. I have checked the connections and can not see where the problem lies. I especially checked the ign switch and wiper switch connectors on the steering column and near the fuse box to see if they were crossed. Any ideas or suggestions? Bob M

In anticipation of converting the 260Z to TBI, I realized I needed to find a good location for the coolant temperature sensor. I need to confirm, but I believe the sensor that will come with the Patton Machine system will be 3/8 NPT. On the 260Z, I see two potential candidates. The blue painted bolt is 5/8 BSPP if I understand my threads correctly. The challenge with that is I would have to drill and tap the 3/8 NPT hole into that plug as 5/8 BSPP or BSPT adapters are made by unicorns. A better candidate is the temperature switch that is just above the distributor in the picture. Is the thread pitch 3/8 BSPP or BSPT?

My 78 was starting and running...until yesterday. I just passed smog on Friday afternoon, but have an occasional misfire and slightly high idle that I was trying to track down. I took off the AAR, and when I tried to start the car again it cranks, but won't start. Not even a sputter. So far I have: Pulled the plugs; they look good Checked for spark at one of the plugs; that also looked good. Ran the voltage and continuity checks at the ECU connector; also good. Fusible links are good. Fuel pump runs. I haven't checked the pressure yet. But: This morning I shot starting fluid into the manifold. Did nothing at all. That makes me think the probl…

The only thing I hate worse than old dirty parts is cleaning them. Is there some place I can take old wheels, rims, and any other parts I've removed for cleaning ?

I am currently looking for a 240z that is in not the best condition, it doesn't have to run, however, I would like minimal body damage in regards to dents and stuff, however, paint isn't important. I'm struggling to find many that fit these criteria as the majority of them are already restored. If anyone knows any good resources to find one, I would love to know. I'm either going to build it for rallycross or a classic restored project with a swapped motor. Either way, I love the 240z, and if anyone has any connections, let me know. I also may not buy for a while as I am in college and a place to work on it is tight, this summer and next year I might move into a house, h…
