Hi all, Finally got my 76' 280Z going, but whenever the brake pedal is pressed the engine revs up to about 3000rpm. Any ideas? Hole in the brake booster? Brakes still work as usual. Any ideas for a cheap fix? Thanks in advance JD

Hi guys. Been a lurker here forever! Picked up a 74 last summer and haven’t had the time to sort it out. Anyone recommend a tech or mechanic in the LI or metro NY area? Car came with triple webbers but seem to be wired up or lined up wrong. If you spray starter fluid, she fires up and sounds pretty damn good. But the throttle and the choke seemed to have been routed at the same line by the previous owner ??. I own a business and really have not had any time to just sort out the damn thing. Any direction to a trustworthy guy that can take this job on would be much appreciated. -A…

Hey guys so I recently replaced my fuel pump (Has a max psi of 95), my car started to run perfectly fine for the first time. Fast forward 2 months...I start it up and it died as if it didn't have gas. So I decided to change the FPR since it was hissing. Then my car started up again but it dies if I don't apply gas. So I looked back at my pump and I see this filter looking thing on top of the pump(I didn't see it the first time, this is my first project car I'm learning). I know it's connected to the fuel system so I'm wonder is this a fuel filter? Like an additional one? Also for the FPR (Fuel Pressure regulator) what's a good psi to have it before i try to start I know i…

Hi folks, having a bit of a time figuring out the last hoses.... Does the connector in the first picture connect to the vapor canister? Secondly, whats the hardline for? Thanks, really can´t figure it out (I am not at my car, my father is trying to put the stuff together and sent me those pictures) Already checked FSM and FI Handbook, guess I am blind or dumb ^^

I had a local shop press my rear hubs together and had to take them back because the bearings weren’t seated correctly. The idiot working on it tried to grind down the end of the spacer to make it shorter, so now the end has a gouge out of it. Do I need to worry about this? If so, how can I find a new one? Does anyone have one to spare? Thanks in advance.

I finally was able to source a new clamshell/steering column cover for my 1970 240z. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the hardware for attaching the covers to each other and to the column. Can any of you tell me what thecorrect screw sizes and thread patterns are for this part? Also, if washers or lock nuts or used, can you please advise so that I can raid the local Ace hardware store tomorrow? As usual, thanks for all of your help. Mike

Hello, I'm not having any luck finding a close enough scenario due to other members modifications, etc...so I'm starting this. This is a car I took everything out of-the engine bay, removed the suspension, drive train, gas tank, etc. - last winter and freshened it all up. This car has been great for the last year. The only flaw has been sometimes when I turn the key it clicks once and does nothing. When I try starting it a second time it fires right up. So, being winter I thought I would do a few things on the list to better my car. 1st. I wanted to send my combo switch and turn signal off to Dave and have that rebuilt. It came back, I installed it al…

I recently restored the fuel tank because rust was blocking the fuel line, resulting in the obvious problem. But I am still occasionally experiencing a combustion problem. My engine has cut out on me twice while driving. I also had problems starting the car last night and this morning. The engine turned over as it should, but I wasn't getting combustion for a couple minutes. With a bit of persistence, the engined eventually roared to life with an excessive amount of grey smoke coming out of the tail pipe for 30-45 seconds. The car now starts and drives, but for how long? Any thoughts/advice regarding likely problems and solutions?

1974 (and 1970) FSM states 2nd Ring gap for 260z (or 240z) is 0.15mm to 0.30mm (Avg = 0.23mm) Recent dyno tests now recommend the 2nd ring gap be larger than the first to reduce ring flutter caused by inter-ring build-up. The FSM average top ring gap of 0.30mm matches the 0.0040" per inch of bore rule of thumb. The new data suggests that for the above rule of thumb, the 2nd ring should be 0.0045" per inch of bore which equals 0.37mm 2nd ring gap. What are you all using...old or new?

I think I've tried everything I have read about. Here is the problem: Car runs like silk when cold, like crap when hot. It backfires through the intake, stumbles a lot, will only build rpm with a lot of feathering, but when it's high in the rpms there is power there (I can burnout). I'm looking for suggestions on what to try next. Here is what I have done/tried: New plugs New plug wires New dizzy cap & rotor Set timing to 14 deg New Fuel pump & Fram filter (between tank & pump) New main filter Tested fuel pressure, it's a little low at approx 33psi at idle, but goes as low as 24psi and as high as 36 as rpm f…

Since I trashed my shoulder I thought it would be a good idea to put power steering in my '76 280Z. I bought the kit from Silvermine Motors. There are no installation instructions supplied. The column is pretty straight forward but I don't really know where to put the control unit. Al lhe says is attach it to the firewall. There doesn't seem to be a lot of space on the driver's side. I have the console out as I doing a refurb of the whole driveline. I can't do the wiring right now as the new engine comes with a new ECU. Anyone have any experience with this kit?
