Hey gang, got an odd one for you. My car used to sit rock solid at 170 (has a 170 degree thermostat) but within the past year that's become more variable depending on if I'm sitting idle or driving. If sitting idle in 95 degree weather, it will go a little past half which I know isn't bad but the fact that it used to sit rock-solid at 170 regardless of weather tells me there's something wrong and even though its not severe it's annoying lol. I've changed the fan clutch, thermostat, water pump, checked fanbelt tightness, changed coolant, used a flushing chemical, and even got a brand new radiator but while the temperature isn't moving as much, the needle still m…

I found this in a box of ignition related parts in my garage...but I don't know what it is...I own a 78Z but I don't recognize this as a part from that year model Z...unless it's mounted way up under the dash (or some other "hidden" location. Any help is most appreciated.

I was installing new rear axle bearing in my 1974 260z today with the Skf 116 and 117 bearings, all went well until the torque specs. I have the b spacers in there and the factory shop manual states to torque from 180-220' pounds of torque. the preload says 3.9 -inch pounds which does not make sense. but in the factory book under the torque specs section, it says 90-120' pounds. now when I did reach 60' pounds on the driver side axle it was getting hard to spin. I also used the zx rear stub axle nut that does not use the crimp as the early z do. I did try with and without the stub axle washer and as I thought it did not make a difference. is there something I am doing wro…

74 260z with round tops Car was 'restored' around 15 years ago and mostly sat, and had a 'tune up' around five years ago. its been in my possession and I am finally getting time to mess with it and drive it. THE PROBLEM - After the car reaches operating temp, it will run and drive fine for another 20-30 minutes. Pulls great through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 4th feels crisp and responsive as well. Then, suddenly after enough time has elapsed, I accelerate hard in first or second and starting right around 3500rpm it will...stutter? and it wont clear up. Third gear is very smooth from 2-5k, I haven't tried a pull that high in fourth because...well, I haven't, but it drives we…

Hello, I am a proud new owner of a 1972 Datsun 240z. I have owned the vehicle for about 3 months now. I am fairly new to cars so my knowledge and experience is limited. I have been having an issue where the car will stall while driving, as if someone turned off the ignition and no throttle response. All the lights and electronics work. I try turning it back on but it will just crank. Maybe after 5-10 minutes, it will start back up and run smooth. When running, it is really smooth and responds very well. I don't think it's a fuel related issue. The lines are not clogged and last time it stalled, I had fuel in the bowls. I also checked the ignition coil an…

Hello, I am currently in the process of rebuilding my second L28 for a 280z. The goal is to have a fun street car that will be plenty fun in the canyons but also have adequate power for California roads and be reliable for long distance drives. The engine is pretty much going to be a stock N42 block rebuild and N47 head rebuild with the stock intake manifold and fuel injection system along with a lightweight flywheel and Electric fans to delete the clutch fan. I know power gain wise with the stock EFI is limited but I have a couple questions regarding if any of these modifications are worth it or will make any difference. 1: Will a thinner head gasket to help increas…

1975 280z auto fuel injected Misfire video?? Alright, my car was running into issues starting I just replaced my starter and now it’s starting up like a charm! However now I’m on to a new problem. when the car idles it sounds like is a little sputtery in the exhaust but the main issue is the second there is load on the car under 25mph I’m hearing popping coming from the engine. It sounds like maybe a misfire. I placed my hand in front of my air intake and I can feel it sucking in air until it pops then I can feel air push out. Then it goes back to sucking in air. the second I get over 25mph it stops. So I can drive at highway speeds or norma…

I have owned my 1978 280z for about 20 years. It was the most reliable car I have ever owned. About a year ago it would just turn off while I was driving it. I have replaced the following: New stock pump pump had the fuel tank drained-it wasn't bad new fuel filter new relays under the black metal cover in front of the battery new relay behind the glove box (I can't remember the name of it) New computer from Z man in Washington I have ordered a new air control unit After deciding what was wrong with it was beyond me I took it to a local foreign car repair place in town. They got the car to run better by replacing the computer. They…

My beloved daily driver Scion xD got totaled Wednesday night after hitting a deer, going airborne and flipping end-over-end down a creek bed. I want to get another xD but the best deal I've fund is located in Jefferson City, MO and that's almost 500 miles from me in central Ohio. So does anyone live in or near Jeff City who would be able to give that car a good looksee, test drive and assure me it's not a dud? I'm willing to pay for your time to do this.

I've been looking online for an aftermarket cargo bay carpet kit and floormats for our 260z 2+2. Unfortunately I only find ones for the coupe. Can anyone recommend any shops that have carpet kits for 2+2. We would also love to get an allweather floormat set including cargo area mat for the 2+2. Any help appreciated.

Back again. This time on working on the power antenna. It used to work perfectly until a friend pushed it down while it was up:( So motor and internals are solid. I knew it probably messed up the old nylon wire inside, and it in fact did. As you can see from the photo it got all mushed and is no longer straight, as well as it came off the track inside the motor. Anyways, two questions, How do I remove the nylon cable from the mast itself? It seems like it is stuck in there good. I see the brass end peice, but for the life of me I can't remove it, only spin it. Is it crimped on where those dimples are? wondering if I should drill those areas out, as I don't see a…

Hello all This afternoon I took the Z for a nice long drive, and realized quite quickly that everything smelled like fuel. Pulled over and checked both the fuel pump and the injectors for leaking and nothing. Whatever no harm, kept driving but the smell was still there. Finally got home and found that one of the vent hoses - the dreaded bent one - is kinked and leaking. Two questions. 1. Can this vent tank be removed? I know at one point there was a thread on how to do so but it seems to have disappeared. 2. Does anyone have any photos of what they have done? I have an 76 280z. Thanks all Jan
