Hello, for those who are using the MSD 6al where did you find your ignition wire? Ive found plenty of them but none that stay12 volts while starting. They all drop down to zero. Ive tested it with a constant 12v and it works fine.

I've searched high & low and have not been able to locate the proper placement of the "longer" head bolts. The FSM states there are different sizes, although there are no pictures/guides. I did order a new set of 280zx turbo bolts which I've heard are stronger than the ones I pulled out of my '72 240z (e88 head). Can someone please point me in the direction of where the longer ones should go? Thanks.

I've recently bought a 1973 240z and have been working on it over time to get it running. A few days ago I finally got it to turn over and I can get it to run by putting fuel into the carburetors, but fuel wasn't pulling through the lines. Fuel strainer is clean. Not sure if fuel lines are, though, however their was no suction on the fuel pump's inlet pipe. I plan on staying with a mechanical fuel pump and if there's a proper replacement or a kit to fix the current one that someone can direct me to it would be much appreciated. So the question here: How do I remove the fuel pump? The compressor is attached to a metal bracket and the fuel pump sits inside the bracket. …

Can someone PLEASE set me straight on which valves need extra clearance on an 83mm bore. How to modify says on page 15, "When 35mm exhaust valves are used on engines with 83-85mm bores and high lift cams, the bores must be relieved, or notched, in the area of the exhaust valves". I've read a lot about the intake valves hitting. So which is it? Both? Thanks for any input, Cliff

I was driving my 70 240z on the freeway, when its suddenly seemed to be out of gas ( it wasn't ). Towed it home, put some more gas in just to be sure, still won't run. It turns over, and will actually rev up - as long as the starter is still engaged. As soon as the starter is off the car dies. Any help appreciated here. Thanks, Ken

Hey everyone, I'm new to these forums but not to Zs or cars in general. I just bought my 1 owner 1978 EFI 280z from a guy in Dallas. Its in amazing shape, paint, interior are both flawless and the mechanical aspects were wonderful too. started up fast as my 2013 car does and ran smooth as can be. I Drove it the whole way back home in Louisiana, about a 200-205 mile trip. Drove like a dream. parked it in my driveway, the next day i took it out and it died on me while driving. Then it started back up fine and i got where i was going, it sat for 10 minutes and cranked but wouldn't start. it was too dark so i went back the next day and tried to get it running. Did my basic ch…

Lads and Lassies I've been experiencing a random issue when starting the Z in which it will miss on one cylinder or run on 5 for a few minutes. My first thought is ignition. The cap and rotor don't look to bad - though I think I'll replace them anyway here in the future as they're dirt cheap. This morning I went to pull the plugs to see the condition. One though five came out perfeclty simple, four had some pretty narly carbon build up on it (which was red, not sure why). When I got to six it was very difficult to pull out. I'm using basically a screw driver as I usually just finger tighten the plugs and then do about a quarter turn. Number six though just isn't budging…

So i decided to have my tail light surround powder coated .... guess my instructions were not very clear. they did a great job on the Finnish, but coated the whole thing ... including the chrome trim. looks nice, but would really prefer the chrome trim for the extra pop. anybody have an extra surround (left and right) they might want to trade/sell? Not worried about color of surface rust, just needs to be straight. worst case, does anybody know a good way to remove powder coat to poss save these pieces? Thanks again for any help or suggestions, Eric

I'm stumped. I own a '72 240Z, L24 series engine with twin SU's. When at idle, either when the engine is hot or cold, the idle will drop in RPM with a loss of engine power. If I rev the engine past 5000 RPM, this might or might not clear the problem (sometimes with a backfire). The same thing can happen while on the road. The 240Z runs like a hot rod, then at any given moment the RPM drops along with power. With the clutch in, a rev to above 5000 RPM might or might not clear out the problem. Things that I have done recently to remedy the issue, but with no success: * Service the fuel tank with a new liner. * Frequently change out the fuel filter. * Replaced the va…

Does rotating the cam backwards to get TDC, causing slack on the drivers side, have any effect on the actual top dead center? Sounds like a no brainer question but I'm not positive about it. Thanks Cliff
