Ok, I've got an early '74 260Z, stock, with the dreaded flat-top Hitachis. They've been sitting forever, so they're gummed up and don't really even work. I went to a local salvage yard, and asked if they had any Datsun carbs, and the guy gives me a pair of carbs, with manifold, that (being the newbie I am) I thought were round tops. It turns out that they are actually Stromberg 175 CD-2 SE carbs, mounted on what looks like a Datsun intake manifold, although I've yet to be able to verify that 100%. My question is, how do these Strombergs compare to the SU's, either flat or round top? Should I even mess with them, or should I take them back to the guy and tell them they…

OK, Work with me here guys... My other 32yr old Japanese car has two dual throat Dell'Orto DHLB 35 carbs. Yes I know... tiny carbs - hahahah At least one car that was fitted with these same carbs from the factory was the 70s Lancia Fulvia 1.3 and 1.3s which were used as part of Lancia's rallying effort prior to the arrival of the Stratos. Well my Japanese engine is a bored&stroked 1200cc now with approx 1300cc displacement, but fitted with forged motorcycle pistons which bump compression up to roundabout 10.5:1 & it's got a factory racing cam with much more duration than stock... So with that said does it make sense for me to select my initial jet sizes based on w…

I have a 72 with an 83 ( I think ) carburated motor in it. I have it running great considering it didn't run when I got it and I'd never tuned carbs before. The problem is that when I stop at a light for more than a minute or two, the car starts sputtering and bucking when I start to go. It usually clears up by the time I switch to third. This is particularly annoying at the track where I can consistantly run 18 - 21 second quarter miles. haha. Also, the front bank of spark plugs look to be a little gunky as if they were running rich, and the backs look a little white ( lean? ) even though the carbs are in sync and I tuned them together. I'm a little lost here, and any he…

I am looking at buying a set of tripple carbs for use on my 3.1L stroker build and would like to get some information on the different set ups available and why one may be better than the other. I have seen that we have Webber, Mikuni, SK, Dellotro, and now something called OER available to us for our L6 engines. Can anyone help hit the pros and cons of each of these inlcuding parts availability, ease of working on them, tuneability, performance, reliability, etc? I really need this info in the next day or so to begin making decisions on what I want to buy.

Ok guys here it is. I was talking to a old guy at a BSA. meeting and he looks the car over a little and asked if it ran decent. So i started her up and hes impressed. Accept it idles kinda rough not to bad just a little bit. It has done this since i got it. He asked when was the last time i checked the carb oil? Tryed looking it up in my chiltons but cant find it . The dog ate my book! Anyways I was wondering if there is suposed to be oil in them and what kind? The cards are round tops. I think from a 72. I know i should know this. And i know i will get slammed for not . Thanks Bill

Anyone know if stub stacks (AKA velocity stacks) are worth the extra money when using aftermarket filters such as K&N? I think they're around $30 each. Supposedly they make the air flow into the carb smoother and more uniform, but I'm wondering if they're really worth the money. Thanks - michael

Hi, I've travelled to the big city of Spokane to watch Gonzaga beat St. Mary's and just down the street from my daughter's is an Ace Hardware, that, unlike my hometown store, stocks metric nuts and bolts, and other hardware in Stainless Steel. Since I left my carbs at home on the kitchen table, I am hoping you guys can help me with a few sizes for the odds and ends I'd like to replace with SS hardware. I need the size of the nuts that retain the SU carbs to the studs. Looking at the nut I thought maybe a size 8, but then looking at some auto studs I started thinking size 10. Which is it? I don't want to pay for the wrong thing as they are quite a bit more than for non…

Does anyone use their Jet Block unit in their Mikuni PHH 44s? I am experimenting with it and can't get it dialed it at the autocross. With the volent transititions from acceleration to deceleration and left to right, the block appears to be flooding over. My air/fuel ratio meter looks good. On the street it works fine, but at the track it seems to choke on itself.

I've just got a pair of 2" SU's from a Jag and saw that a couple of people have tried this. I was wondering what needles have been tried/worked. SM needles have been suggested a few times - but these seem like they would be too rich! From what i've worked out They're richer than the needles used by the DOHC 4.2 Jag (BCC) they're from!!! Here's a link to the SU needle compare-o-rama i've looked at. http://www.mintylamb.co.uk/suneedle/ Anyway, any results?

After restoration of my 71 Z ,I had a lot of problems with my SU's.Thanks to the help and parts I got from ZTHERAPY,most of my problems are solved.Still I have two problems as follows: 1-Idle speed should be at 750-800.When it is adjusted to this optimum speed,it sometimes was going down lower and the engine was stalling. Then I found out that touching the linkage between the two carbs was changing the idle speed. After that I discovered that the bushings are worn and air is sucked in in uneven ratios hence changing the mixture. What can I do to eliminate this worn bushing problem ???.I adjusted the idle that it runs between 800-1000 so that its lowest value is 800 in order…

I'm running triple webber carbs on my car, with the simple sponge filters/socks over each air horn. But just next to the filters is a small round hole in the side of each carb. I'm pretty sure I can see a jet when I look in there?? and the edge of the hole looks to be threaded - as if something's supposed to be screwed into it. Is that hole supposed to be covered with a plug or filter or something? :stupid:

I was in the process of renewing my throttle linkage grommet that goes into the firewall when I pulled the nylon ball off to get the grommet on (somehow I don't think I shoulda done this) now I can't get the nylon ball back on to the shaft that runs through the fire to stay. I tried hot glue (held for 2 minutes  ) tried super glue (held for 5 minutes ). Is there something else that you guys use to PERMANTLY attach the ball to the shaft?? Normally this wouldn't be so bad except doing it in a monsoon (It never rains in So.Cal....yeah right!) is kinda gettin' old!
