Hi everyone, Here I have a picture of my carb, you see there’s a ‘hole’ in the outlet (to the manifold). Can anybody tell me why is that for? Secondly I received a mail with the following kind of insulator, (second picture)! I presume this is a new type of insulator with a rubber seal in it, because normally you only see the aubergine coloured insulators? But why is the ‘island’ for and is it a correct type. I mailed Toysport but they did not have any left, "hope to get some in the future"… Does anybody know another address to buy?

I have a 73 with SU carbs, and when I got the car, it has a make shift aircleaner, (see my gallery for a picture) and I bought a stock air cleaner box off of ebay, and as some holes were probably plugged to make this make shift setup work, I need help with knowing what on the air cleaner goes to what... I have attached a diagram. Right now my setup has a plain metal backplate with a hole for the crankcase hose, and two holes for the front and rear carb hoses. There is no air pump hose, and definitely not the hose at the bottom of my diagram. Any help is always appriciated! aircleaner.bmp

Anyone know what material the Hitachi SU insulators that go between the carb and intake are made of? What is the primary purpose of those things anyway? Just a spacer or is there some sort of vibration isolation involved? Also I need to make a custom set of those. What material should I use to make new ones that most machine shops should be able to work with? Would Delrin work - or aluminum? Thanks for the help michael

ay, just finnished converting my 260 to round tops, still need some stuff, but I found this which gives a real good feel for the carb, maybe should go in tech articles. Not sure if its already here, but thought it might help anyone messing with the carbs. http://www.zparts.com/zptech/articles/mal_land/ml_sucarb2/images4/SUcarb_111601d.htm

Anyone know the parts numbers for the various "SU" style Hitachi carbs used on the early Z's? For example, the Roadster used the Hitachi HJB38W-1 and later the Hitachi HJB38W-3. The 510 used the Hitachi HJL38W6, at least for the early years. Are there similar numbers for the Z's? I'm also looking for tech info such as needle types, bore sizes, inlet/outlet sizes, flange shapes etc, basically to figure out interchangability. Figuring out the P/Ns is the first step to finding the rest of the info. Anyway I'm trying to collect as much info on them as possible - I'll likely make it all available on my webpage at some point or write up a tech article. I'll check out my …

I searched the forums and couldn't find answers to these questions. Thanks for any help/info etc. Ok what does the balance tube on the intake manifold do? Does it simply equalize the pressure between the 2 intakes? Is there some adjustability there? Anything else? Any idea what happens if you block it off? Second thing, anyone know how intake gas temperature affects HP, fuel economy or any other engine "metrics"? If you're going for HP is cool gas better? I know later models piped heat into the intake radiated either from the exhaust or through the air filter. Was this just for emissions reasons? Thanks again michael

Hi guys, new to this board been a long time reader tho. I've got a problem but no money and need help diagnosing this. I bought a color tune and decided to check my carbs rich/lean ratio.. after fully closing the mixture valve the front carb still burned yellow(rich) so this leads me to believe something isn't right. I can't adjust the mixture needle anymore The rear carb burns blue(perfect ratio per colortune diagram) I have round top SU's on a l28e engine and n42 head in a 240z. I can only assume the person that put this together setup the carbs for the extra cc's of the l28. I've attempted to tear the carbs apart and clean them with b12 cemtool carb cleaner. I saw …

Hello Members I am trying to ascertain the correct/original specification for the hose that goes over the top of the carb body and terminates at the air cleaner. It is an air/vaccum hose. I am assuming that vaccum type hose is correct for this area. Is someone that has the correct original type Nissan hose still installed in this area able to measure both internal and external diameter of this hose for me. Length of both hoses (ie front and rear) would also be appreciated. Would someone be able to supply a genuine Nissan part number for this hose? Thanks for any reply. Regards Joseph
