This is a picture of my engine in my 73 240Z that I recently bought. It runs great, and when I get to start really working on it I'm gonna clean it up etc. Anyway, notice the air cleaner...anybody have any idea what is? The engine isn't the original from this car...it came from another 240, but the guy i bought it from wasn't sure which year...anyway I want the stock air intake/cleaner...

Here is a hypothetical question for anyone with some insight into carburetion and engine performance: Suppose I have an L24 engine which is in good working order with stock Hitachi SU-style carbs and a compression ratio of 8.76:1 (eg E88 head). Exhaust gas analysis and seat-of-the-pants tell me that the carbs are well tuned. If I then only change the compression ratio to 9.13:1 (eg E31 head) but make absolutely no other changes, will I need to adjust the mixture of the carbs? Possible answers: (a) Yes - richer. The new higer compression ratio will effectively mean each cylinder will generate proportionally more heat. A richer mixture will help cool the combustion c…

welll.... if anyone happened across my last 2 threads in this forum, you will know about my situation... i decided to share some pics and stuff since i got 'em on! it was a little difficult b/c i had to drill holes in the air cleaners to allow for the carb vacuum lines and for the brake vacuum assist line. you would think that would be all, but when i put my front air cleaner on to figure out where i was going to put the holes i put it on upside down (so i ended up with holes on the wrong part ) well, i made do and squeezed 'em on! ok, enough blabbing. here's my dirty a$$ engine compartment!

welll..... i had just ordered my k&n air cleaners and air horns from MSA 2 days ago, and today i went to pep boys to get some vacuum nipple thingys because i'm taking off my air pump. as i was leaving, this kind man in a 280z pulls up and wants to check out my 240. sooooo... i pop the hood and he was telling me that he has these webers from his 260 that he's giving away! so, moral of the story is: i have these weber DGVs with new linkages (but no manifolds) and the air cleaners on the way. should i just use my SU air cleaners and air horns for now (until i get manifolds) or should i send them back (anyone had to do this with MSA?) and save the $$ to get the manifolds…

I have tripple Mikuni's with an inline Holley fuel pressure regulator. It has a tap for a fuel pressure guage that I recently got around to installing. These carbs prefer approx. 3-1/2 psi. My guage was showing 2 psi. I opened the regulator up further and further and still could get only 2psi max. Well the fuel pump is 15 years old but in terms of mileage it has maybe 20K miles on it at the most. I decided to replace it with a new one thinking that could be the problem. After I am done replacing, I start car and see what I have now for psi. Its still reading 2 psi! It finally just struck me sitting here that I have the fuel return line hooked up. That has to be it. I am …

I just recently accuired a set of '72 carbs with the manifold and air tube. In fact the only thing that the Carb setup i got didnt have is the linkage that connects on the airtube. Now, I know that the '73 linkage rod (which i also have) is longer than the '70-72. All i want to know is Can i use that '73 airtube and linkage with the '72 carbs? This would save me a lot of heart ache! Thanks all i want to get rid of these DGV's. -Steve

I have a pair of SU's I want to list on e-bay but I need some assistance in describing them. They are British SU's and have the following numbers stamped in various locations PDC2A, AUD9, AUD2140 and AUD2277. They are only a few years old and are in perfect condition (Photo attached). Does anyone know if there is a generic model number that I can use in my advert tag? Thanks in advance.

Hi All, On our stock SUs after the carbs have been fed there's a hard fuel return line back to the tank. On the Z I have a fuel pressure regulator set before my triple Mikunis and then the fuel line routes back to the stock fuel return. My vintage SCCA '73 Civic racecar (ongoing restoration project) has dual Dell'Ortos but the fuel line ends after the second carb - it does not return back to the tank. Why do some have return lines and others don't? What would be the harm in having my Z's fuel line end at the last Mikuni rather than return to the tank? I don't see how the return line affects (if at all) the performance of the carbs.... Can someone enlighten me? Thanks, -e

Anyone have any good advice on what carbs (or carb work) I should put on an F54 block/N42 head engine? I'm planning on ordering them from ZT and just want to know what I should be asking Steve for. I see the regular reman carbs on the site for $595, I was also looking at the Outlaw setup but they said that they really do not do this any longer and are not so sure that it was ever really any better. I also plan on sending in my N36 intakes and having them worked over removing all the un-necessary garbage (smog crap, etc) from them and the balance tube. Any information would really be appreciated!! :classic:
