Hi all, I've always wanted to ask but never got around to it... What is the theory behind carb linkage adjustment? By that I mean to ask: on a set of triples (doesn't matter size or brand), you've got the main throttle shaft that runs the length of your manifold to which are attached three arms (on my mikuni manifold these are cast & fitted with three different threaded positions) to which are attached three adjustable length rods that connect up to each carb... Ok so... adjusting them so that they are all at the same length and thus the carbs open at the same time and the same amount is one thing - fine no problem there.... What I'm wondering about is for exampl…

I am experiencing a great deal of confusion with the dashpot piston (or suction piston) lifting method to tune the mixture of the SU carburetors. I've read that lifting on one carb helps diagnose mixture on the other carb. I've also read (according to Scott Fisher) that lifting the piston of one carb helps with diagnosis of that carb itself. What's most interesting is that there is a lot of support for both cases but I am receiving the most factual support for the first case - lifting on one carb helps diagnosis of the other. Support: Naturally you would think that lifting of the piston of one carb affects that carb only and helps one diagnose mixture for that carb. Not t…

i have dual webers (dgv) and my throttle is sticking. all of the plastic ball joints are worn out, and the previous owner has them held together with safety wire. is this the same linkage used on the SU carbs or is it weber- specific? i would like to buy this new. what are some good temporary fixes for the sticking problem?

OK after getting my tank and new lines < fuel > I have developed a overflow that doesn't want to shut off when the float is raised, when I start the car it runs fun without the choke but after 5-10 second the back car closest to the firewall start pouring out gas from the overflow valve and also from the inside where the piston is? would the stuck open valve cause this to happen as well? also does anyone have a pic of their float ? I adjusted mine perfectly , not sure how it got out of adjustment but when the float lifts it touches the bottom of the valve but gets kinda stick on the flat bottom of it , should I sand down the bottom to make it round? , I know alot…

Hi, i bought two 240z one for parts and the other for restoring. a 73 (round carbs and a 71). he mecanic told me the carbs on the 73 air valve pistons were getting stuck because of use so the put the carbs of he 71 on the 73, and he later told me hat the air valve piston in 1 carbs is getting stuck because is to worn or used, but so every time i go to a yunk yurk its going to be he same and i don want to buy the complete carbs (i already have 4), could it be that he is NOT using the correct oil (eas 20 right??) o waht other factor can be? or simple i had bad luck with 3 worn pistons

I just bought a 74 260, and got it running, well sort of. It runs smooth, but rich at 2500 rpm up. the real problem is idle which it loads up very bad) and up to 2500 rpm. It black smokes and runs extremely rich like the chokes are stuck on but they arent. How do I go about fixing these wonderous:sick: Hitachi carbs? i have tried to follow the tuning procedures, but I suspect it to be something internal, or possibly with the idle air adjustmant? any help would be appreciated.

I just recently bought a 240z! (1972) I tune up the basics ( points, caps, plugs, ect..). Now I’m trying to get the carbs to balance. The airflow between the two carbs are extremely off. I’m getting 2 or 4 times more airflow on my rear carb and hardly any flow in the front. I thought it could be a vacuum leak, but I check it with the starter fluid trick. I haven’t top the SU carb oil yet and I haven’t check the valve clearance ( Should I?). Do i need to rebuild the carbs? I’m pretty new cars . So be kind to me.

I was looking under my carbs today and I noticed a gap between the intake manifold spacer and my SU's. Its located right under the each attachment of both carbs where they meet the intake manifold. The gap is between the carb and the spacer when looked at from under the carburtors. Why is there a gap there? Is this normal or is something wrong? I have a picture of it with a red line showing you where the gap is. Sorry picture is kind of blurry. Thanks for the help
