73 Datsun 240Z with a 5-speed manual transmission looking for help. The ignition system ... I have a offset slotted distributor with dual contact breakers. The distributor can only be placed into the engine one way. The contact breakers are set to the correct dwell angel but I was curious as to the timing. When the No 1 cylinder is at TDC and the ignition timing marks on the crankshaft pulley line up with the zero degree mark on the engine front cover the rotor head is not pointing to the number 1 position ... it points to the number 6 plug. Is this correct? The carbureator ... I have dual Hitachi HMB46W (flat top) carbureators. I've been having a real problem getting the…

Hey All, This isnt really a question so much as an observation. I have the Weber dgv conversion on my '73 240Z. After a few months of research, I thought I finally unserstood them enough to begin trying to tune them. I had done everything short of a complete rebuild and I still couldnt get the car to run quite right. There was a flat or dead spot at 3500-4500 rpm where the car seemed like it was going to die and then it would " come back to life" and open up. I always figured it was because they were progressive carbs and thats the way they are (this is my first carb'd car by the way). The other problem was the car would loose power at 5500 RPM and you could not ac…

Hi all, Well the time has come for me to make a decision on whether to get Triple Webers or Mikuni's?? Any thoughts on performance one versus the other, using a mild cam & headers and other minor performance upgrades. Anyones experience would be helpful! Thanks, Paul

Does such a thing exist? I have the PHH Service Manual (like, 20 pages) and it has some basic info and blow-ups, but is there somewhere a really good tuning and adjustment and explaination document? I have been forced to educate myself because the incompetency of others is greater than the depth of my pocket-book. steve

I was browsing one of the Japanese z site which pics showing Japanese style intake induction system. Link below http://www5a.biglobe.ne.jp/~satotats/zhp/z18p/index.htm I made my own cold intake system for my weber couple weeks ago. I should known this site. Ohh, well I can re-do the thing. Also this site includes many Japanese style mods: engine, body, wireing, but its language is Japanese. Ha Oh, his 240z is 12.7sec(0-400) with his mods. jaynez31 just like 240z, I'm from Japan too, what's heck.

I've listened to everyone's advice and plan to change out the square tops on my '73 for round tops. I've gotten a set of round tops from E-bay, but I've got a few questions: - I've got 4 screw round tops that appear to be in good shape. However, the knurled brass screw that goes ito the bottom of the carbs are missing. I'll check with the guy who sold them to me, but I'm not holding out for a favorable response. Can any type of proper bolt be put in place? Don't know exactly what the intention of this brass knurled knob is. - The float bowls have the fuel inlet that's cocked at an angle, but what's the other fitting, just an overflow, and is that to be piped back int…

I finally got to the point of my re-build on my 71 240z that I have purchased new exaust system and bought a carb rebuild kit from Ztherapy. The first thing they say about cleaning your carbs is "DO NOT put them in a bucket of cleaner" Well when I bought this car it did not run and I changed plugs, points, filters, and all the normal stuff to try to get the thing to run. Well one of the first things I did was stick those old dirty looking carbs in a bucket of cleaner. I'm sure all the parts Ztherapy said would disolve have. Has anyone else ever done this? What do I need to do? where can I get the replacement parts which I have ruined. I will of course call ZTherapy toda…

Just wanted to say THANK YOU to Craig for stopping by this afternoon and doing me the huge favor of settig up my new (been sitting in my parts bin for over 2 years) ZTherapy carbs. The major flat spot at 4000 RPM that I've been experiencing since my engine rebuild has been eliminated with the installation and set up of the shiney new carbs. A little more tweaking on the ignition timing, and clutch adjustment and I'll be jamming. Thanks again Craig for helping me so much. If I can return the favor in any way, just let me know. I wish we could have chatted more. Never did get to check out under your hood. Carl
