Forgive the ignorant question, but I am shopping for regulator/pump/filter for my new engine and Mikunis and am a bit confused how carbs work. On my FI motor, it is: Tank--Pump--Filter--Rail (injectors)--Regulator--return to tank. So, as I understand it, the system is 'pressured up' and any excess pressure/unused fuel is vented off throught he regulator back to the tank. Now on a carb system, the regulator has to be before the carb, right? The pump makes somewhere between 7 and 15 and the carbs only need 3-3.5, so regulation has to come BEFORE the carbs, right? So you need a pump that even though you are using a large volume (high RPM) it can keep the pressure up at t…

I have a 260 with a single DGEV (runs like crap, just like you'd think) that I'm about to convert to triple 40DCOE's, which I got used. Is there any particular reference you used to do the swap? Any good website or doc somewhere that says what you can take out and what you need to keep? Anyone have a step-by-step posted? Any help would be greatly appreciated. _________________ Thanks, Cooper '74.5 260Z (12/74 mfg.)

Tuned the carbs the Ztherapy way on my 73 with 72 SU's. I passed emmisions on my first try after failing miserably. The lesson I learned is never get into the habit of leaving your chokes pulled after moving the car from one side of the garage to the other. the gas drips down the nozzle and prevents the the choke from disengaging fully. ANYWAY, I notice that my idle runs high. around 1500. If I take my foot and pull up on the gas it goes to about 1000. And if I shut off the car and restart it goes to about 850 (what I want). How do I take up the slop? Thanks

Alright, i've had it with the SU's. I recentally purchased a 73' 240z and the other day i got royaly spanked by a toyota corolla. I cried, and then immidately started blaming the su carbs which i have never got to perform worth a darn. Its time to upgrade. I am looking for any and all suggestions on what the best carb setup would be for someone with completely stock engine. This car is going to be my day to day driver so i dont realy need something really hight performance, more looking for something that is very dependable but will give me a little better performance. What should i get, and where should i get it? I only spent $950 on the car and it runs like crap …

I have 3 screw su's with k&n filters so I don't have a spot to run my overflow hoses from my float chambers, I was thinking of runing them to a t and then running them to the fuel tank flow guide valve which has an open line where it went to the air filter to burn off the extra vapors, getting alot of gas smell in the garage since I got it running , any thoughts?

MSA right has their syncrometers selling at $29.95 right now. That is as cheap as I have seen them. I own one myself for use on my mikuni carbies and I love it. You need one of these.

My 240Z ran when I got it, but poorly. I took the carbs off and cleaned them by removing the suction chamber, piston and float assembly and spraying with carb cleaner and soaking small pieces in Berrymans. And wiping and scrubbing with a toothbrush well. I checked the adjustment on the floats and they were fine. I left the other adjustments as they were. Now the car won't start. When you crank it with the starter the car will rev-up but when you let go of the key the car immediately dies. I thought that if the car ran with dirty carbs, just cleaning them would at the very least help a little. Any thoughts why it won't start? Thanks, Steve

The only video I have about them is of a modern recreation built using mikuni 50mm carbs, not FI. Yet the two 1/18 models I've ever seen of the car (done by Kyosho who ought to know a thing or two about those cars) show them as being fuel injected... Alan? Anyone? -e

I just received a set of 4 screw roundtops that I bought on eBay. They had been sitting on the car unused since '82, and show it. My question is the what is the best way to clean them? The aluminum has the usual discoloration from oxidation which I assume is inside as well as outside. Also, the linkage is anything but shiny. I have a large can of Berryman's Chem-Dip for Carbs which I was thinking of letting them soak in once I break them down. Any other suggestions?
