thanks you all for helping me out with my webers fouling plugs prob. will scope out best place to tune webers. and since im here, Q1. once tuned, what then makes triples high maintenance? is it mainly just keeping em synced or are you always messing round with mixture screws. q2. is there any one sparkplug that rules the roost? my own experience shows the ac/delco 4's resist fouling pretty well, and in my engine that says alot . price 3.99 apiece. your thoughts most appreciated. thanks a bunch.

I have a 71 240 with a L28 running with triple webers. more often than not I get sooty plugs. after reading material here I increased plug gap to .042 since i have a accel super coil and 76 solid state ignition. any other basic things to check for this condition? and the size of main jet in bottom of fuel bowl was a 50. thanks everyone.

Ok, I finally got the beast started...definately a home run for the night, but now I have a different situation. When I start the car, the engine revs very high and stays that way. I have twin SU's on a 1973. This is the first time starting since removing all the smog equipment. I have never worked on an SU carb before but I can tell you that the piston inside the carb is all the way "down". If I manually move the piston up, the engine revs slow considerably and then the engine dies. What am I missing?? I have filled the carbs with SAE20 wt oil and inserted the dampner rods as described in the haynes (useless) book. When the dampner rods are screwed in, it is pret…

This is my first attempt with SU's. I've just reinstalled my twin SU's after replacing all the hoses and removing the smog equipment and now I cant seem to get the car started. Should I remove the float bowl covers and fill them with gas?? At the recommendation of a local mechanic I tried spraying starting fluid into the carbs while turning the car over, but no luck. Just lots of popping and smoke coming out of the carb!! Any suggestions?

Hey I have a 72 240 with the round top , 3 screw carbs , is there any known issues with using these carbs with the 260z intake n36 or a nonwater type intake , trying to eliminate all the hoses on the intake , thanks Jeff:stupid:

I've got a 70 240z with the stock SUs. A week or two ago I noticed a problem developing. Under hard accelerations there is a rattling sound comming from the engine bay, it is a metalic rattle, almost like the muffled sound of some screws rattling around in a can...almost. It has been getting worse, and is no accompanied by a loss of power. It is much worse in the higher gears, with it almost never happening in 1st, and getting worse into 2nd, 3rd. It seems to be load dependant, only at say 50% throttle or higher, esepically when the revs and low and building. For some reason I think it is carb related, like something is loose in one of them. I'm really not too famaliar w…

In the winter I can't hardly get my 260 to go till it has been driven for about 30 miles. The carbs have been switched over to 1972 SU's, and it has the single air filter on each carb.

So I've got a broken needle stuck in a piston and I can't get it out. Seeing as my new SM needles were fairly loose in the piston I think I need to replace that little metal cylinder that the needle is placed and screwed into. Anyone know how to get it out? I'm thinking it needs to be pressed up into the piston and out?

I think my back is broken from leaning over this thing all day long. Just finshed installing a pair of modified Z-Therapy SUs tonight. I also cut a larger heat shield from some stainless and installed it to help keep the heat off the carbs from the headers.

I have a stock 72 240, with 3 bolt carbs. My nozzles have been giving me problems recently, which I have worked out for the time being, but I think they are worn out and probably need to be replaced. Before I do that though, I would like to measure mine and check it against stock spec. Does anybody have the spec for the O.D. of these? Thanks, Devin

This weekend I received the ZTherapy video on tuning the SU carbs (I have 3 screw round tops on a 73 240 with an E31 head). I followed his procedure to do the tuneup, just short of taking the bodies off the manifold. From 1000 rpm to about 4800 rpm all is great now. But at idle if the engine isn't fully warm (and I mean from driving, not just as indicated by the temp gauge) there is some hesitation when first cracking the throttles a small amount at idle. This was never there before. Also, when accelerating at full throttle, just before 5k rpm the power falls off. I don't mean gradually, it's almost as if there is a rev limiter it's that sudden. Feels like it's not …
