Well I finally had a bit of time to play with my carbs yesterday. As some of you may know from a previous post, Running Like A Dog Today, I was having some problems with the way the car was running. Bottom like is that it was running very rich. The plugs had about 3 hours of running time on them and were carbon fouled like you wouldn't believe (black, black, black). I got new plugs and printed out the instructions from zhome.com on how to tune your SUs and took three of my repair manuals out to embark on trying to fix the problem. I was considering installing SU's on my 76 280 ,but a friend said I may run into trouble. Does anyone know what would be involved in the conversion. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok..I just purchased my first project car and it is a 73 240Z. Have had engine running via gas can thru fuel pump. Will be dropping the tank this weekend to check fuel line and tank for clogs. Was told car was sitting up for approx. 2 months. Any other suggestions for items to be checked while I have the tank off? Also, will probably be looking into tank and line replacement. Any ideas on where to find such items? I'm not having much luck on finding them anywhere!!!

The mechanic who is putting new floorboards in my Z tolld me the carbs need to be rebuilt. They are 71' round tops. He wants about 600 labor and about 200 parts so I am going to try it myself. I've seen posts both for and against using the grose jets from ztherapy. Any opinions either way? I've also seen posts warning against using to wrong tubing on the float bowls. Does anyone know if the float tubing that comes with the motorsort kit is the same grade as the one from ztherapy in case I go with that one instead? I've watched the tape from ztherapy and it doesn't look to hard as long as I go step by step. any opinions or advice are greatly appreciated!!

Hello im brand new to the forums. and new to the zcar (unless you count the 78 zx my parents had a long time ago) i got my 74 datsun 260z for free from a man that messed his back up and coudent work on it anymore. he had started to switch the flattop carbs to the round tops. well i have it now and got it pretty much back together, and i can get it to start but it idles about 2k rpm and backfires threw the carbs, ive read that that is a lean condition but i would like to know if there is a starting setting i can put them at cold to get it to run decent to warm up to tune? also wheres the mixture nut, is it that big knurled nut with a ball bearing in it? i have a digi cam …

While Z Therapy is building up some of his race modified SUs, I am looking for some new air horns and an air box to fit them. I found the TWM products (twminduction.com) and they look pretty good. But before I spend the money they want for them, are their others to compare? Don't need a filter system, just the the tubes & box. Thanks, Craig :classic:

I have a set of solex 44's that are missing a few pieces. I've tried contacting a few places and they all say that solex parts and mikuni parts are not interchangable. Has anyone else run into this problem? I am aslo still looking for these parts if someone knows where I can get them. Thanks for your help.

I saw on Ebay, a single Holley on an aftermarket mainfold to fit the L24, L26, and L28. Are these things any good? Something like that would sure be easier to tune.

The round tops SU's were stolen off my zed recently, so I'm currently looking for another pair. I'm wondering however, what other carb options there are? My main criteria is they have to be fairly cheap (not much more than another pair of round tops), deliver similar performance and not be a pain in the arse to fit. Any idea? Thanks...

i have gotten a 74 260z the guy who had it before was in the process of changeing the flatops to roundtops and messes his back up he said he got the carbs new(Referb?) for $300, they never went on the car till i got it, and i can get it to run itll backfire threw the carb , and idle at 1500-2000 rpms i can get rid of the backfire and i now see that the front carb it leaking a little gas around the mixture nut, could the carbs have sat for too long? they sat for about 7 months before i got the car.
