Ok, two questions, finally I put a center force clutch in the '74 and now that I can actually drive the damn thing I have a question regarding the triple Mikuni set up that I have.... And curse the 500 mile break in on the clutch, that is gonna take forever...:tapemouth Anyway, I need to know how to tell the mm size on the carbs and what I need to do regarding a fuel pump to supply the beasts... Currently I have put in a stock 240 electric fuel pump I had laying around, but I don't think that's gonna do it... Any advice? Thanks! ~Brian

I am having trouble starting my 72 240 in the morning. I was working on the SU’s and noticed that the choke linkage was loose. When the choke is pulled back the jet’s are not dropping. How do I tighten this up so the choke operates correctly. Also the jet’s are turning instead of droping.

Hello, when i first got my car it was only runnin on the first three cylinders... then i let it run for a bit since it hasnt' ran in like 3 years stuck some rislone in the crank case and soem other stuff to "clean" out the engine-well whatever it does. I noticed this week that it ocasionally want's to run on three when i start it up..so i started wiggling things around the carburetors..Underneath where the adjusting nuts and all that stuff is on the back three cylinder where it isn't running when i start it it's all loose and ****. you can wiggle it easily. IT was also kinda sticky. where the choke and all that stuff was... what do i need to do? I think a rebuild is probr…

Was walking downtown and saw an old BMW R 90/6 parked at the curb. It is, of course an opposed moter and had a carb on each side (fed from the crankcase???) that said Bing. They looked like simple, clean little units. They looked so simple, they could almost pass for throttle bodies. Anyone give me more info on these? Of course, it is impossible for me to see something like this and not imagine them in a row of 6...... steve77

The 1973 240 I bought has triple webers but their chokes(starter devices) are not hooked up. Does anyone have any advice on how to fabricate some linkage for these? I live in a fairly cool climate, so I assume I will need a functional choke. Am rebuilding the engine, so I haven't started the engine yet to see how these carbs perform. Thanks. ps. I don't know how I put this question under k2chronics name. Somehow I must have been logged in under his name. Whatever I did, it was accidental. Sorry.

I've seen a handful of people both at the classic datsun show and elsewhere who either did not have or did not use the supplied fuel line for their triple set-up. This is the one that looks just about identical to the stock one, ie with the fuel return line..... These people have the fuel coming from the tank to the fuel pressure regulator and then usually via stainless steel lines and AN fittings to the the carbs with no provision for a return. Why? What does this change? nothing I am guessing.... Did they just plug up the return to the gas tank? Am curious to hear what you all have to say... -e

I've looked through the carby forum and the Z-Therapy site and can't seem to find the answer to this question. Is there any difference in performance between the three screw and four screw carbies, I know that one was used on early Z's and the other on late ones but I'm not sure about the performance issue. I have a three screw set on my project 260 and a spare four screw set that the previous owner of the 260. I would like to know so I can choose which to hold on to and which I should sell on.

I have a 73 240 and I think that its probobly time to rebuild my carbs. Every one I talk to seems to have an intense dislike for the flat top carbs. So I'm thinking that I might just want to pick up a nice set of used carbs. Either 71's or maybe some double webers seem to be more readily available although they are also a little more expensive. What do you guys think about the cost vs performace of these two systems. Or which set do you think that Ill prefer. I have helped to install 71's and that seemed to be fairly easy. How much more complicated are the weber 32/36s to install? Any thoughts or theroys are much appreciated, …

I have a 73 240 with flat tops. My runs like it is starved fuel. It feels like I am running out of gas if I maintain a high rpm. So, I dropped in some fuel dryier and replaced my fuel filters, then I replaced all my vacume lines and just recently checked my fuel pressure, cause I figured that the pumps couldn't keep the float bowls full and to my suprise the pressure ranged from 4.4 to 4.6psi. At idle and under load. I was wondering at what point too much fuel pressure becomes a problem? I was also wondering if anybody knew what the spec on the fuel volume was? Thank you for your time, madsoul

Thanks for you help guys. It looks like the solution is pretty clear. I will look for some round tops and not the webers.

Hi I have these SUs that came with my car. My car has an L28 with triple Delortos but I was considering putting these back on to restore it's 'stock' appearance. Anyway I was just wondering if I someone could identify them as I beleive the 70-72 SUs are the weapon of choice when it comes to standard carbs. Thanks in advance. OzLime240Z :devious:
