Carburetor Central

If you have questions about the SU Carburetors, this is where you can find the answers.

  1. Is there any real difference between NGK BPR6ES-11 and BP6ES-11? My 240z has a petronix ignitor installed and sometimes gives me hassles with the current BP6ES which advertise as pre-gapped. Have called many retailers here in Panama and they only have either BP6ES or BPR6ES-11. They dont have BP6ES-11. Can i use NGK BPR6ES-11? US$1.80 a piece!

Hi all, First, I will say that I still need to do all of the base tuning on the carbs, but I think that I have another issue. I am hoping (and assuming) that this is something simple. I am just not very good with the "dual carb" thing yet... Quick Summary - 1971 240Z - Mechanical pump removed - Electric pump installed on frame rail near tank - Brand new L28 - Brand new Z-Therapy SU's - Maybe 1 hour of run time total - E12-80 Electronic disti with MSD Coil - Current Fuel Pump = New Carter P4070 - 6PSI - Routing = Tank --> In-Line Fuel Filter --> Fuel Pump --> Lines --> Front Fuel Filter --> In Line FP Gauge --> Carb Feeded Line --> Carbs -…

I just got my '72 240z running again, for about 5 seconds. I installed a Carter P60504 electric fuel pump with an advertised shut off of 4psi. From what I have read the SU's do not like anymore than 3.5psi. Upon turning the key and letting the system prime fuel started pouring out of the air cleaner/intake side of the carbs at the bottom of the large opening. I unplugged the fuel pump, waited a minute, turned the key, and the car would run until it emptied the fuel in the carbs. So my question is, if the floats and needles are working properly would the keep fuel from filling up the carbs and leaking out? If my floats and needles are fine then I am pushing too much …

I took my thermostat housing off today and noticed that there is another outlet (other than to the rad) on it, which has been welded up. I looked around and it seems like it should go to my intake manifold (N36), which has no water lines to/from it. There is also another pipe welded off on the other side. This all points to my intake not currently being cooled. What's going on??? Why would anyone (eg PO) want to do that to my intake? Could the cooling jacket be blocked or something? Is this just a cold running emmissions control thing or does it actually help when engine is warm too? I've never had any problems running when it gets hot, but it does hesitate when it's…

Ok, I put a rebuilt my carburetors, and now I'm having problems getting them just right. I can't get the mixture just right. I can set the air flow with my unisyn, and I can drop the idle down to under 1000, but the mixture I can not get right. I have set the mixture nuts to 2 1/2 turns, but the car will bog out when I lift up on the lift pins, like it is going to die. No matter how much I turn the nut out, the car backfires out of the carburetors, which I am assuming is a lean situation, since it is mixed with the bogging out when I push the lift pins. My carburetor dampers are good, I have SU fluid from MSA in them, and I might end up using Marvel Mystery Oil to se…

Well I took advantage of the dyno while at Zcon this year and I am looking for advice based on my chart. The engine is hardly broke in with 800 miles, but it was running great so I thought I would see some numbers. I am very happy with the numbers based on what little time i got to fine tune. As you can see from the chart I ran lean at about 5200 with my SU's with SM needles. I am also suprised at the richness at the lower rpms since I did so well with my MPG on the way here. I did have a richness problem on the front SU before I left and I'm not sure what exhaust pipe they were reading off of. I thought the HP and torque #'s were good for the 2.4(.40 over) and the stag…

I think there may be a set of very early SU carbs on eBay with the round float bowl covers. Didn't these come on the 69-70 cars? It's hard to tell from the pictures but I thought I'd post a link here in case anyone is looking. eBay Item #4583649272

  9. I bought these from a acquaintance type who said the car was running fine with these carbs. They have been sitting for two years. I am getting ready to install them and came across the linkage issue. My question is how come two of three carbs don't have the throttle linkage no where near the idle speed screw? The throttle plates of those two are open as far as the linkage is from the screw. I can't find the adjustment procedure in all the literature I downloaded from this site. All I have figured out is the throttle shaft hits the accelerator pump rod. I appreciate the help!

So most of this year I have been dealing with a fuel issue. I have done so much research and googles just to come up with dead ends and references to threads that don't seem to exist, so I am ready to ask! My 72 240z runs great, when it stays running. I can go out and fire it up no problem let it warm up and it idles pretty good and has good power everywhere. My problem is when I let the car sit at idle for longish periods of time. Say 5-10 minutes or so. I do this when I want to drive the car and I let it warm up in the driveway. Basically, it will start and run good. After a few minutes it dies. The fuel filter is empty and the carb bowls are dry. I can crank on it…

Hi guys, I need some advice. I have found some very special air horns but the length is 100MM. I will be running a Kameari intake manifold (regular length, not short) with 40 mikuni carbs. My car is stuck under snow and I cant go out and measure. Will the air horns be too long? Thanks Edit: My car is a USDM vehicle. These air horns are for JDM vehicles and their brake masters are on the opposite sides.
