Hello everyone...I drove my 73 with round tops about 8 miles for it's first half-tank of gas. about a tenth of a mile from home it died. No gas in filter. I'm running on a mechanical pump only and it seemed to be doing fine. I checked that the diaphram is good (essentially new) and all lines are new. Tank has been cleaned, new steel lines, etc. Any thoughts...? Thanks...Ryals in north Georgia

Getting ready to clean carbs up and just notice the front of the carbs have been machined at angle to butter fly. I have never seen this done on SU carbs. Has anyone else seen this done?

I have a question and a problem. I'm doing a 73 restoration that was an auto. I'm changing it over to manual with 72 round top carbs and intake manifold. It appears the carb linkage arm that runs from the firewall bracket to the intake manifold are different lengths. I looked on the micro fisch and it does not indicate that they are different. The mfg date on my 73 is 3/73 not sure the mfg date on the 72 (I only have the engine & trans). Attached are two pics. The yellow one is the original one on the 73 connected to the flat tops the silver one it the same linkage arm attached to the 72 round tops. Note the spacing between the firewall bracket and the upright a…

managed to have a productive long weekend in spite of the temptations (beer & brats, etc.) turned back the z technology clock a little: ripped out the efi and associated spaghetti/plumbing and installed the su's. the worst part of the whole process was installing the choke lever... i picked up one of those tunnel-mount plates in order to avoid breaking the underside of the console (the choke lever set came with the telltale chunk of broken plastic mounting post still attached to the mounting screw) and it was a bit of a pain to set the layout on the tunnel so the choke lever would line up in the console slot. every time i have to do work on the interior (especia…

I worked a lot on the car today. Installed the fuel rail. The carbon canister hasn’t been reinstalled yet, but I’ve heard different opinions on it. what’s the opinion of how these fuel hoses are set up? I’m no mechanic, but want to make sure I didn’t screw this up. thanks in advance!

I'm looking for a carb part that broke on the rebuild of my 72 roundtop 3 screw carb . I've attached a few pictures. The picture with the red arrow is showing the front carb. I actually need the part for the rear carb. Not sure if there is a difference. The other picture shows the actual part that I need. If you look at the bottom of the part you can see that it has broken off. It appears to be some sort of plastic. The choke linkage attaches to this. I have the linkage. I thought about trying to epoxy it back together but since it moves anytime the choke is on, I'm not sure how well it will hold up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Paul

I'm working on a restoration project of a 73Z. I'm installing 3 screw round top carbs off a 72 engine. To keep from getting things mixed up I'm working on one carb at a time. I'm currently working on the rear carb. My rebuild kit is a Napco for 72Z. Bought if from a supplier in Japan. The kit has 2 sets of needle jets. One is marked N54 and the other is marked M43. Do the front and rear carbs use different needles? If so, which one goes where? If not, which set should I be using? The car is going to be pretty much stock, manual trans and exhaust headers. I removed the needle from the rear carb slide, but I don't see any number marking on it or they are just ille…

I've looked around but can't find this. Does anyone know where to get the SU air filter housing gasket for my 240Z? This is the one on the perimeter that seals the housng to the cover. I'm having the housing powder coated and the original gasket is hardened beyond reuse. What else might any of you be using here that works and holds up to the harsh enviroment?

I'm working on a complete restoration on a 73 240Z. When I bought the car, I also got a 72 engine and manual trans with it. My intentions were to use the round tops off the 72 and install them on the 73. I'm nearing that part of the project, so I started looking over the carbs on the 72. I do not see any choke plates. There is linkage where the choke cable would connect, but no choke plates or shafts. Are the chokes a separate attachment to the carb housing that I don't have? I know the ones on the 73 are incorporated in the carb bodies. I tried looking at the fish diagram for the 72 but can see anything that helps. any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. …

I have a late 1973 240z air filter box. I've been restoring the car for a while. I am trying to locate an air filter. I did not realize it but evidently there are two (2) different sizes. One that is approx. 2.375 inches high and another that is about .25 inches shorter. I am not having a great deal of luck locating the correct air filter. Does anyone have a current source for these air filters. I believe they were used on late '73 (240 Zs) and 1974 260 Zs. I have tried all of the usual suspects (zcardepot, thezstore, ...etc) Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I live in sunny Southern California. It rarely gets below 50 degrees F where I live. Currently working on getting my 71 back on the road. Right now I’m going through the engine bay. Maybe a dumb question, but can I simply remove my choke cables and run without? Thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
