280 engine will move more air and so need more gas. The question is how much to reduce the needle diameter for stock N-27's. Did some math but wondering how helpful it is. So it would seem like you could just polish the needles down from stock dimensions at each station by one tenth. Not that easy though. When I installed K&N's and a 2 1/4" tailpipe on the stock 240 engine it was flowing more air and had to richen the mix. When I installed a better-breathing skyline Y-70 head it was flowing more air. Had to modify the needles and install stiffer springs to keep from running lean. The new engine is not a wild build but will have a 280zx head and other mods. It…

I want an A/F ratio meter like many of you other guys have so I can make a run with the car while logging the fuel ratio details. My short list is "I want to do data logging, and I prefer an analog display over digital." If I pulled the trigger today, it would be for Innovate's MTX-AL (analog). Why? Because I know nothing about such devices and Innovate is a big player in the market, and hopefully produces quality stuff. Any input about Innovate's logging and analysis software? If I don't like it, are there other third party offerings that I could use instead? Any other recommendations about brand or style? * I thought I had asked some of t…

well to start with I took the carbs apart to clean. The car just wasn't right.so after about ten fuel filters,I figured the gas tank had way too much trash in it.... I found a quart of rocks and a pine cone and pine needles and an 1156 light bulb in the gas tank!!! Like i always said...WATCH THAT CHILD!!! so...I decided to clean the carbs. been wrenching for 40 years and doing carbs is no biggie. my first with the SUs. I just took them apart, found some sediment in the bowls and blew out the passageways. I did drop one piston and needle assy.I looked at it very cosely and I just can't see anything wrong with it. The tip is nice and sharp. well I put it all together and th…

After I got my series 1 running, I took it to a guy to have him look it over. I was told he know's Z's. One problem he found was that I had put the bowls on the wrong carbs. Does this make sense?

So if you are ever thinking about buying the hose that Z Car Depot (@zcardepot.com) lists as being an alternative to the float bowl hose, don't! (https://zcardepot.com/products/carburetor-su-float-bowl-fuel-line-hose-240z?_pos=2&_sid=6edb73ed7&_ss=r) I used some of that hose on someone's car, and I couldn't figure out why the car wouldn't take load. I went to check the float levels, and this is what I saw when I pulled off the air cleaner. Those hoses aren't going to flow much under load. And I did cut them to the same length as OEM hoses.

One of my throttle linkage rod ends was broke/worn enough that it occasionally popped off while driving, not much fun in traffic. Saw this thread that talked about salvaging the old plastic ones to create new linkages, but did this instead. Bought some 8mm-M5 ball sockets from Grainger and M5 threaded rod. I've seen them or similar on Amazon also, but wanted to see them before buying. Sockets have a wire lock pin, which definitely lock them onto the ball, but they are also pretty tight without the wire. I wish I had a lathe to remove the unused threads, so I used some shrink tubing to cover them up. Not factory looking, but works great if you're not into th…

I'm looking for a replacement mounting bolt that threads in to the reservoir on one end feeds through the carb and has a 6mm nut on the other behind the linkage. Please let me know of any place to obtain one.

Hello, I had my carb adjusted pretty well but wanted to get it running better. Here is the backstory. So far I replaced all the intake gaskets, cleaned the carbs thoroughly, adjusted the timing and set the valves. I checked the float level by measuring from the top to the float. I set the mixture using a gunson color tune. The car would run good but would pop a bit on deceleration and the plugs always looked a bit rich. When lifting the slide I could never get the idle to go up 100 rpm and then settle. No matter how I set the mixture the idle always would drop off when I lifted the slide slightly. I have read that if the idle drops off that means the mixture is…

Living at 4000 ft seems to be on the cusp of needing different jets to properly tune engines. I have had numerous pieces of equipment that needed the “high altitude” kits to run properly and many others that ran just fine with “normal” jetting. I would like your opinions on wether a basically stock L24 with round top SU carbs would need a different set of jets to achieve optimal tune. Right now I can get the front cab perfect on the colortune, only opened one turn, rear is still a hair rich with the adjustment all the way lean. Compression is solid, ignition timing is good, no obvious leaks etc. Today was my first attempt with the colortune was I was surprised how far I n…

Anybody got first hand knowledge of new Z Therapy carbs straight from them? 699+200 core. Wondering if its worth it and they work well out of the box.

I am having trouble getting my S/U l28 to Idle. No matter where the idle adj screws are set the idle eventually falls to 400-500 before shutting down. These are newly rebuilt carbs (minus new throttle shafts). I am so tierd of fooling around w these S/U's. I wish I would have just gone EFI.
