Possibly answered on the forum but I couldn't find it. My 1973 has ZTherapy carbs & a new choke cable assembly. I had my mechanic reposition the choke lever off of the plastic center console and onto the tranny tunnel. Prior to this work, when I moved the choke lever all the way back it would raise my idle speed (which I need when the car is cold - otherwise she wants to die); now moving the choke lever doesn't affect idle speed. My $1,000,000 question - SHOULD the choke lever also raise the idle speed (meaning that he didn't correctly adjust the choke cables)?

so I'm gonna go with a ztherapy SU carb swap on my 71. this poses some removal options with the smog and balance tube, I think. I'm still confused as to what is smog and what is water circ.... my air galley pipe looks like a long stretched out turd.... (read rust) I'd like to make it go away if possible. 1> I had thoughts of getting the MSA header with exhaust upgrade... so will this help in the desmogging process? as far as fittings for the oem header and rust..etc? 2> I haven't found a desmogging for dummies tutorial out there yet... is there one or something close to it? 3> I would prefer to remove the air pump, and other associated smog stuff....I can f…

Hey guys, I'm trying to get access to Keith Franck's "white paper" on carbs, Keith has accepted me into the Sidedraft Central yahoo group but for some unknown reason I can't log in and read through the archives. Keith's advise was to try and get a new yahoo ID and I have done that but still no luck. I have tried everything....so wondering if any of the carb guys here can advise on how I can access all the great this info, has anyone downloaded this stuff? Thanks, Chris

I am going to try and teach myself triple DCOE tuning over the next year or so. If I can learn how to get the carbs tuned 90% I'll be happy. I'm paying $600 every time I take the car into the triples guru... so that has to stop! If one man can do it, another man can do it. Wondering if anyone can give me some insight on silver soldering jets? I have just purchased a set of jet drills, metric and imperial along with a small hand drill. Thanks, Chris

Hi all... Latest in my slew of apparently simple questions has to do with tuning the SU carbs. I had the carbs on my '70 240Z rebuilt, *supposedly* tuned by idiot mechanic, and now husband and I wanted to 'practice' using the synchrotester. Well, outside of the fact that the 'better' synchrotester by MSA is flimsy (read: broke), the carbs were vastly out of whack (front read 3 at idle, rear read 17). I ordered a uni-sys (sp) through the local O'Reilly auto store (a lot cheaper than MSA, even though its the same brand). Outside of the scary fact that the guys at O'Reilly had no idea what the thing was, I expected to be able to sync the carbs. Digressing back to question: h…

I am thinking of making an intake manifold for attaching a single 50mm DCOE weber. It would simply replace the two SU's. I am just at the concept stage and about to buy the 50DCOE....any suggestions/input on how to optimize the design or (been there done that) is most welcome. I do not think it will have any performance benefits but it should be more tuneable.

Hi, I was wondering what the pros and cons are to running the single downdraft setup? Also anyone out there who actually runs that system, just whether they like the setup. In the past I had run a dual downdraft weber setup and had issues with the car surging and was told that the issue was the gas pooling in the base of the intake manifolds and then when I stepped on it, it would suck up all that extra gas. Since switching to the dual su setup I haven't had the issue, but I'm getting tired of them not running right after the car sits for a while. thanks, Brian

Or, 5 rich… I pulled the plugs today and noticed the cylinder closest to the firewall (6 or 1?), was much more lean the the other obviously over rich(Just black), cylinders. What could cause a single cylinder to be quite a bit more lean then the others? I've recently replaced plugs, wires, points, cap, rotor, 1 of the 2 condensers on my automatic (Can't reach the other without removing the distributor and I don't have a timing light). The plan is to adjust the valves, and then try and adjust the carbs, but I assume I have another issue before I tackle that one.

I'm not a big fan of blown carburator cars (mostly because they never seem to work entirely great and are a bitch to tune). But i was thinking today, the SU's are not like your standard carb, since they meter the air as it comes in and add fuel accordingly, their almost (in theory) like a fuel injected car. You guys think i'd be possible to take a small turbo, maybe one from a 300zx Twin turbo (just one), and split it into two pipes and direct it thru the SU's? Just bored and thinking about different things. Would it work (moderate boost maybe 8psi). What gains (hp) you think you would get? Too hard to do? (i'm not thinking so). What do ya think?

I just purchased a fairly cheap set of SK Racing (not oer) carbs with 62mm horns. They look good and are all intact. My first idea was to put them to my Z but i need money now more than ever...I wonder what these are worth? Not many around and Made In Japan. That should say something about the quality.

I have the opportunity to buy an engine/5speed tranny combo with complete triple SK Racing carbs on it. Guy wants $750 for everything. Tranny is a 5speed. I think the carbs alone are worth the asking price. Anyone have an SK service manual?
