If you have questions about the SU Carburetors, this is where you can find the answers.

  1. Started by grannyknot,

I picked up a performance L28 recently and these SK tripples came with it, wondering if anyone can tell me about them, there is not much about them in the archives. I removed the cover for the jets and there are four jets just like webers, the two at the back on the emulsion tubes are 120, the two at the front are 60F8. The other two carbs are the same. Thanks,

Just recently got into a 240z '72. 280 motor installed, but original '72 3 screw round top SUs. Drove it for a bit to find that it was well tuned to be at high idle. I believe this is to have the ol' girl stay running. I then had to ring a friend to grab me, as I was on the side of the road!! All this to say that, I rebuilt the SUs brought them back to spec and reinstalled( cleanest part in the engine bay ) got her running at high idle, but have a loud slapping noise coming from the front SU! was thinking that it might the mixture but no matter what I do it still there!! any suggestions

  3. Hi all, the car seem to run well. It's not on the road so I just run it in the driveway on the weekends as I put it back together. It should be on the road in the next week or two and I don’t like gas leaks. I put new gaskets in the carb's and cleaned them as well as I could this past winter. The car has not been on the road for 29 years but the refresh is almost complete. They dripped a little from the intake the day I got the Webers brand new in 1978 but it never stopped me then. In my old age I do not want to drive it with any gas leak. When I turn it off for the day I'm getting a slow drip of gas from the air filters. Can anyone help me locate and fix the problem?…

Hello all, I recently rebuilt my 3 screw SU carbs on my 240z with the Z therapy kit. It was a good experience. At the same time I installed the MSA premium exhaust. I've noticed a very strong gas smell when driving the vehicle now. Is this normal with the SM needles? From my understanding they were overly rich during idle only? My 240 is basically stock, with the 2.5" exhaust and 280zx distributor coming soon. The smell is so strong I'm thinking of switching back to stock needles because it is so bad. I forget who I spoke to on the phone at Z therapy, but I asked if they were ok for a basically stock engine and they said yes. Secondly, when tuning them, one carb require…

Hey all, I'm new here... I've been over at Zcar for about a year, and thought I'd start posting here too, for a second opinion. Anyhoo - I'm looking into procuring some SM needles for my '71, and I was wondering if they would be a worthwhile upgrade for my otherwise stock L24 (although I will probably upgrade my coil and plug wires at the same time)?

  6. My engine has been modified to 2.6L with oversized pistons and Schneider 274F. I guess i forgot to tell Bruce Palmer of Ztherapy this fact and at the moment of refurbishing the 3 screws roundtop su carbs he placed a pair of SM needles. Isnt it better to use another type of needle when having a modified and engine and a non stock camshaft? If so, which model?

    Just saw these at HF. Not a complete-coverage set but some nice sizes that could be used for jet drilling. https://www.harborfreight.com/high-speed-steel-micro-drill-bit-set-30-pc-61526.html Idle & Spill 50 (5) 0.5mm 60 (5) 0.6mm Main 120 (2) 1.2mm Air Corrector 150 (2) 1.5mm 180 (2) 1.8mm 200 (2) 2.0mm 235 (2) 2.35mm Other 80 (5) 0.8mm 100 (3) 1.0mm 300 (2) 3.0mm

  8. Started by Careless,

Looking in Nissan E-Fast catalog, I can see that the Air Pump can be taken apart, much like a power steering pump can be. But how much of it is available for refurbishing? As far as restoring the look of this item, There are about 3 or 4 pieces on the unit that are cast into the housings that are supposed to be plated. If I were to plate the pieces that these small items are attached to, and then spray them with "cast iron" look spray or even blast the plating off the areas that are to be raw metal, would that cause any issue for the operation of said unit? Or does anyone offer NOS or refurbed units with this already done? I can only find a refurbed one right now, but…

Dear Everybody, 1 year is too short. My 72' 240Z must get somg test again. I checked fire timing and adjust cab. then bring my car to smog test. Result was failed. HC (ppm) was 9014 (limit 700) at idle 775+- 425. If I adjust mixture screw in bottom of SU cab. may be co% will increase. Somebody Please advice ! I don't wanna spend money so much!

Well, I just got my colortune in the mail and it confirms exactly what I already knew. I am rich, even with the adjustment knob all the way up on the front carb. Oh, this is on 3 screw 72 round tops Last night I checked the valve lash while hot and only had to adjust a couple of valves from the cold setting. The float seems to be set right at 23 mm from the bottom of the lid. I also synced them at 1500 and 700 rpm. This evening I tried tuning with the gunson and got the rear carb right where I want it. Even the lift the pin method is showing good on it. The front carb is another story. Even though it is rich I can only get it to run good at 1.5 - 2 turns out. I can't g…

And found this. Looks like its cleaning time...this is my first time rebuilding, so I may have questions along the way Edit: just turned it over and found what appears to be a date 8/24/11, the number 1331, and a signature that looks like ztherapy...
