Wow, I was loading some groceries in my '72 Z and the trunk floor on the exhaust side was over 130 degrees F! The previous owner said it was always hot back there, but is this normal? Maybe I am missing a heat sheild or something. I dropped the exhaust system to install a new transmission and did not see anything notable. Thanks for your input!

Hi. I going to build a muffler for my 240z like the one on the z432 or the one from Fujitsubo. Can someone give me the measurement of the two end pipes? Diameter, c/c and the degree of angel they are cut. Thanks/ Andreas

A roadblock kinda day - failed smog on my 1977 280z. Bad catalytic converter (no numbers on it), and high CO%. Short story is it passed fine two years ago, and now it doesn't. Per this thread i'll drive around for 30min on 87 gas before testing. But i'll still need a cat! A couple of parameters: 1) it has to be a california approved cat 2) it's gotta mate to the MSA 3-2 header system (might as well replace that while i have someone replace the cat). any suggestions? What have you guys had good / bad experiences with? what's the price you paid?

Did anyone update the ANSA Exhaust? I have the system since many years in my garage and I thought, I could maybee change the muffler and pipes to have more flow. The problem is also, over 73dB is not legal here measured 7 meters away from the side. Pass by full throttle in 2 or 3 gear with 30 Miles around between 2500 and 3000 rpm. I guess I would even need 2 mufflers or resonator/muffler in the midle to pass. Thanks for your thoughts. Marcel

Hello again Z community, Ran the motor today on my recently purchased 73 and I hear loud and snapping sounds around the intake and exhaust manifolds. Sound increases when throttle is opened. The car has a history of running hot in stop and go LA traffic. Questions: 1. Does this kind of sound mean that I have an intake or exhaust leak? 2. If it is an exhaust manifold leak, does it mean that my exhaust manifold is warped and needs to be replaced? Thanks much in advance.

Hello 240Z community, I would like to install a new MSA premium exhaust system (code:15-6302) onto my 73 with stock exhaust manifold. The MSA product description lists "70-72, 74 240Z-260Z (For Stock Manifold)". I called MSA and asked if this system will work with my 73 stock exhaust manifold and they did not know or were not sure. Question: 1. Has anybody installed this MSA system onto their 73 with stock exhaust manifold and does it fit correctly? 2. Aside from the smog fittings, is the 73 stock exhaust manifold identical to the earlier types? 3. When MSA refers to 74 240Z-260Z, does this reference also include the 73 240Z? Thanks much in advance, gtom

The exhaust hangers both metal and rubber parts were absolutely toast on my 280/ The local shop where I get exhaust work done is great on big Detroit V-8's, not so much and Datsun's. They looked at the car and got the deer in headlight look when I said I need new hangers for custom exhaust they are building, any idea's for building new hangers?

I recently purchased 3-2 header from MSA outlet store for cheap. Now im about to build a exhaust pipe, cause i cannot afford to buy pre producted items and exhaust shops are dayum expensive around here. SO after i take the old pipe out, should i first try to build the pipe outside the car, imitating old pipe or just put the pieces one by one under the car? I cannot weld it under the car as i have to drag that pipe to my neighbour, who has the equipment and skills, but i can use these "tensioners" to keep the pipe in one piece. Suggestions and hints are taken.

Hi there Can anyone provide dimensions for ANSA vertical / twin stack exhaust tips? Tube size, silencer length etc, I want to see if I can get a local exhaust fabricator to make a set in stainless. Many thanks, Steve
