So I finally got around to buying/test fitting the exhaust on my 72 restoration...Seems like some folks in the past have had some issues with MSA's header flange not mating well at the cylinder head, not clearing the steering...exhaust stories are equally as prevalent. After talking with them and hearing about improved design I bought the 6-1 MSA header with ceramic coating along with their new "performance" 2.5" exhaust... As you can see from the pics, they seem to have cleared up a lot of issues. The header has a substantially thicker flange and comes with its own manifold gasket. Test fitting showed some slight warpage over the length of the flange (mine slightly b…

Hi, I'm about swapping transmission on my '75 280z. In order to drop current tranny, I need to remove exhaust tube. I try to unbolt the nuts from the exhaust manifold and exhaust tube, I could've removed only one nut, but other two nuts are hard to reach with 1/2 ratchet wrench with extension from bottom of the car. FSM does not have any good explanation. Does anyone have good tips or tool to remove those nuts? Thanks, tamo3

I've got a 3-2-1 MSA coated header flowing to 2.5 in exhaust with the MSA performance exhaust. I've pretty much decided that to get rid of the drone and get the highway noise reasonable, I'm going to go with a glass pack or resonator in the mid pipe. My biggest annoyance though is the fitment of the muffler. After I figured out the pipe puzzle, the outlet is still too low imo and looks tacky. I'm running without a bumper so that makes it even more exposed. Has anyone gotten tired of the issue, that so many have talked about, and actually replaced the muffler with something that fits the MSA exhaust path without having to use a custom shop for the whole assembly. Thanks fo…

Hey everyone, my 77, which is bone stock, burns my eyes on deceleration while in gear. The exhaust fumes are so bad that they burn my eyes, but this is only with the drivers side window down and only while decelerating in gear. Anyone have thoughts as to what may be causing this?

My 6 to 1 header is hitting ever so slightly on the bell housing. I want to grind away a 1/8th" or less. Is this common or is something wrong?

Pulled my header out of storage today to start matching it to the new engine/head (N42) and found there is a big difference between the openings. Looks like the header was made for a stock head and not one as worked as this one. Here the template is over the header, Lots of grinding! Now I do have .4" of header flange to grind away on an angle but the final result will be a funnel that will still shove these wide exhaust ports into 1.5"OD pipes. The car while I own it may see some track and some tearass driving on quite rural roads but mostly will be used for highway cruising, should I think about a larger header or am I splitting hairs? Thanks, Chris

Hello, I have a 280 motor installed into my 73 240z, using the 280 motor mount brackets. The problem is that the header collector end is not low enough to clear the tranny mount when attaching the exhaust pipe. Either I need to have more back down angle of the motor or the entire motor lowered to allow proper clearance. I'm not sure if the 240 motor brackets (that i have) will change the angle of the dangle to accommodate for good clearance. Any suggestions? Thanks

When I got my car, my twice pipes and glasspacks were pretty well toast. I liked the way they sounded, but way too loud since one actually had a hole in it and the first start after 23 years of storage pretty much blew out any of the rest of the packing. I had a guy here locally do the work for me and I'm quite happy. He ran the over under section a lot tighter than the original set up and it sounds really nice. Maybe a little loud on hard acceleration for some, but at cruise it sounds fantastic. I'll post a couple pics

Hey guys, new here. I did a search and still no positive answers, hopefully you can help me out. I have a stock USDM 73 Datsun 240Z and want a Fujitsubo Super EX header/ Legalis-R muffler. Problem is no one on this side or the other side of the pond can figure out if there will be fitment issues. I understand that the header might not work because of the steering rack, but will the muffler work? I have contacted Fujitsubo japan and also many other tuners and no one knows the answer. One tuner did suggest that since it was built back in the 70's that there were no emissions and that should mean that there should be no difference in the mufflers. Thanks

I just won a mint-ish condition header from Ebay for my 240z, only downside is that it has holes for smog equipment. I wonder what size are those holes? My original manifold has been modified (those holes are weld shut) so i cant check on that. CheerZ

Has anyone installed a cat for the purpose of helping cabin smell, and did it work? I've read the numerous threads on this issue and have made a list of fixes to apply, but Im specifically wondering if a cat-con makes a substantial difference in exhaust smell?
