I've read all the opinions posted on other forums. People seem to thing wrapping headers is evil, with rusting and potentially compromising your header's metal integrity... etc. The header wrap on my '70 did a great job. No idea if it's destroying the metal, but it keeps temps down. I'm looking at these coated headers on MSA, but would feel inclined to wrap them still. More can't hurt, right? Or can it? Will it burn off the coating faster? Is any of this important at all? Friday's shouldn't have this much thinking going on.

Having scoured the exhaust forum and reading up on twice-pipes, pipe diameters, etc., I'm hoping to get some insight on the Pros & Cons of a few setups, and get some advice for the new build. I've got three setups: 1) What's currently installed on my '70 2) New setup purchased locally on Craigslist 3) What's currently installed on '71 Forgive the crude drawing, but it's a notional sketch of the three setups: #1) Headers run into ~2" pipes until about the center of the car, where they come together into what looks like a 3" pipe for about 2 feet. They then split back into two ~2" pipes and head to twin 'resonators' at the rear of the car. This setup came with…

My '78 one-owner (me) Z is all stock, inluding the original muffler and exhaust system. For the past couple of years it has been making a 'Phhfft !' sound when I let off the gas when shifting gears. My favorite Z mech has found some smallish holes in the muffler and claims those are causing what I interpret to be a backfire. I always thought it was the pther way around...........engine running too rich.......unburned fuel in exhaust.........Bang...........equals holes in muffler. What says the peanut gallery.? I am thinking new exhaust +headers+muffler, but if the engine is running rich I obviously want to get that right before blowing holes in new steel. #1and 2 spa…

Hi all, I have finally installed my Stahl header and one set of 3 primaries runs within 1/4" of the foot well. I have 2 questions for those who have installed these headers; 1. did you have the same clearance issues and if so, how did you deal with it? Banging in the floor isn't an option as the car has been totally restored. I don't see any way that I could heat up the pipe and bend them over without wrecking the header. I'm also hoping I don't have to send this back to Stahl to be worked over but that is an option I suppose. I could also look at bending the pipe which is closest to the floor too, and wrapping it in header wrap at this area only. The other challenge I…

I'm having a new exhaust system "from header to tailpipe" installed on my Z. I have decided I don't want a resonator and the muffler I want is a SS Magna Flow. My question is do I need a muffler with both openings offset, or one offset and one centered, or both centered. Whats the correct layout of the muffler to ensure a correct fit. Also I will be going with a single tailpipe. Thanks.

I have a 1978 280z 2+2 and i need some recommendations on a muffler. When I got the car it was running a straight pipe. I took it to get an exhust on it and they put on a resonator, and a magnaflow exhaust. 2.25 pipes http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/displayapplications.asp?partnumber=14820 I dont know the resonator type, but this system is to loud. My main idea is to turn the car into a fun daily driver and not a race car. I do want a nice sound. but i want it to be quieter. I've been told that a flowmaster 40 series wouldn't fit, so could 60 series? heres the sizes Flowmaster 60 5" X 10 " X 13" - 19 " Overall Length Will it fit? and what all can i do to make the car …

Did they ever put an O2 sensor in the 280Z exhaust manifold? I thought I saw a pic of a stock cast iron exhaust manifold that had an O2 hole cast into it, but now I can't remember where I saw that pic. I checked the fische and didn't see anything like that, nor did I see any reference to a sensor, but I'm no expert with the fische.

Hello all , after receiving my order two weeks ago we finally got to the header install yesterday . My 17 year old son Ian is a grade A mechanic and my go to always for these kind of jobs . we got it all apart and of course took reference photos . cleaned the carbs with some varsol and used some aluminum brightener on the balance tube and manifolds and then we started to dry fit the parts to be sure of fitments . when we were doing that job we realized that the stud closest to the fire wall had been cut to fit the old header and we knew right away we had a problem on our hands . tried the standard method to remove by using two nuts and the stud would not budge , abit of …
