My cylinder head has the square exhaust ports with the steel liners. Is there any advantage to removing them, and how do you get them out? I was thinking that they might be an unnecessary restriction, and removing them would improve exhaust flow. Also, How would you recommend matching the exhaust manifold to the exhaust ports? the only thing I can think of is to use the gasket or clear plastic and compare and compromise. thxZ

Went to the SMOG place yesterday to get Ruby tested, DIDN'T PASS ! ! 1977 280Z 4 speed by the way in California. The guy was cool and over looked the K&N cold air intake and hooked it up for free first to where it stood but that has nothing to do with this. The numbers came back with a CO (Carbon Monoxide) count of 6% at idle and the same nuber at 2500rpm. He said it being an older car I might be allowed 2% but those numbers where WAY TO HIGH. Told me she was running extreamly rich on gas and misfiring at idle and to have a specialist in these cars check it out. A fellow at the tow yard later that day said, "A missaligned TPS sensor can cause the…

First my disclaimer: I've used the search tool for "head" "headers" "exhaust manifold"... and believe me i've read 4 pages of threads. My situations is as follows. I have a newly rebuilt F54 block flat top piston with n42 head (ported and polished). Stock cams. Stock exhaust (so far). Before i put the motor back into the car i'd like to finalize a decision on whether to put a header on or not. The main dilemma is the noise. I understand the performance gains, but i've read a few bits here and there about how people regret putting one on because of the increased exhaust noise. My goal: To have a street use, quick Z. To have an exhaust note that is sporty, but note "ricer" …

I've got the MSA 6 to 1 header and the 2.5" premium exhaust. Everyone speaks of the horrible drone? at highway speed. I thought a drone killed terroists, so it I'd rather not have to deal with it. Whats the best glass pack to buy? I do not want a resonator. Thanks for any suggestions.

Back in the day I recall side pipes for the S30's. Anyone know who made or makes them. Or, does anyone have pics of these parts, for reconstruction purposes?

Anyone that has followed my "EFI relay unplugged" know that I just recently solved (with the forums help) most of my fuel injection issue. I now have an exhaust leak at the header. I hope it is just a bolt that has come loose from the head. Anyway, I hear it only after it has sat overnight! Hmmm...sounds like that could be my cold start problem! It takes about 2 minutes for the leak to seal and that's about how long it takes for the cold idle to work properly. Next item on the list....check exhaust/intake bolts.

So basically my problem is ; i bought a Bosal Exhaust from Advance auto parts that looks like this . I can't seem to snake the muffler through since it's in one piece, i'm wondering if i have to dismantle the rear suspension, which seems like a lot of work to do to install an exhaust system. Please, if you have any knowledge or help, let me know! p.s this is my first z car, and the first car i've done manual repairs on, so i'm in the dark about a lot of things.

I blasted, painted, cured my exhaust manifold using POR-20 high temp paint. This paint takes a while to stir after you open the can. Its thick unlike POR-15 which is thin like water. The color is so similar to the sandblasted manifold it is kind of tough to find painted/unpainted parts of the metal, the color is that good. Waited till the wife left the house this AM and cooked the paint to cure it for 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Should have taken the plastic coated coat hanger off the manifold prior to cooking :stupid: No biggie, I ran the oven clean cycle to cover up the evidence and reported the housework good deed! Seems like a pretty decent surface. Cu…

Hello All, I'd like to relay my experience in dealing with Stebro Exhaust, located in Nepean Ontario, which unfortunately has been very negative. Hopefully this communication will prevent others from going through the same frustrations that I have had during the last 18 months. The saga began with my search for a stainless system for my 73 240Z. I did a search for Stebro because it was the system that I had on my 71 240Z back in the early 70's--loved the sound. To my surprise a Google search immediately revealed that Stebro still existed and that they could custom fabricate a stainless 2.5 inch system with twin tips. The system was ordered in July 2009 and was delivered …

I discovered that my exhaust manifold has a crack at the #6 stud and I also broke all three of the large rusty studs at the flange the the exhaust. Instead of trying to get the exhaust manifold repaired, I thought about getting some MSA headers since I have about a $200 credit. I know that I will not see any extra performance with the engine stock and I don't want a very loud noise. Can anybody give me any comparisons between the 6-1 and the 3-2 headers. I will be attaching them to my stock exhaust for now. Iwas also wondering if one fit and installed better than the other. Thanks, Dan

Hello all I while back I installed the MSA exhaust on my Z. This past weekend I straightened it out a bit (the muffler was aimed down) but now the muffler is sitting on what, at least to me, looks like the rear section of the frame rails. (its basically a square shaped beam that is part of the car). Can this cause any issues? I can "easily" fix this but would like to know in advance. The muffler is in the stock location. Jan
