Hey guys, new here + first post  I was thinking of getting new exhaust + header for my 77 280 for a better sound and to reduce some of the noxious fumes filtering into the car from the stock rusty exhaust. I was looking at a 3-2 MSA header into twice pipes, does anyone have this set up, how hard was it to install, how does it sound and what do you think of it after having it for a while? Or the 6 - 1 header and 2.5 pipes to a muffler, what are the advantages to this vs. the 3-2 and twice pipes set up / disadvantages? Thanks for any feedback and nice to meet you all!

I think the muffler is the right word. One that i currently have in place is not original + previous owner has painted it (maybe by accident) so that the other half is same colour as the car. It says made in usa but nothing else. So im looking something more original and perhaps more loud. It is very quiet at the moment, im sure its even quieter than the original muffler. Pipes and the manifold is in ok condition.

Can anyone tell me the difficulty level for changing out the exhaust / intake manifold gasket on a 1972 240Z? I have "decent" mechanic skills, but not a pro. Thanks in advance, Danny

I'm about to get MSA's 6 to 1 header (paintable) and was wondering about effectivness of their exhaust jackets. Are they something I need or just wasted money? Thanks for any advice.

Summer time is coming and I intend to continue daily driving my 240Z so I have been working to make the cabin livable in the summer heat. So far... 1. Window tint 2. New AC installed 3. dynomat + new carpet padding 4. Honda blower motor Today's project was to minimize the internal heat generated by the muffler. The guy that bent up my exhaust did a great job of tucking the muffler up under the bumper but as a result the carpet in the driver's side back corner gets very hot. So I wrapped it with 2" wide exhaust wrap. Very easy, inexpensive modification and you can't see it from the back of the car at all. Hopefully it will cut the heat down a bit and be dur…

Hello guys I know this question has been asked hundreds (if not thousands of time) but. I at the current moment my 280's exhaust is old, and well pretty much getting clogged. Atop this I have a leak at the manifold gasket (which I'm thinking is cause by not only age but by the clogged state of things.) So I'm planning on replacing my exhaust system. I'm debating getting a header and running 2.5" exhaust all the way back. But here's the $1M question. Which header to go with. I know a bunch of Z people here in Arizona and keep getting different views on which one to get. One side says the 6-1 headers are the way to go. The other end says the 3-2 ones are the ones to go with…

Restoring a 1972 240Z, in the process of replacing the stock exhaust manifold with a new stock manifold. The old manifold has the smog tubes in the manifold extending about 4" into the exhaust port. The new manifold does not have the smog tubes, but the manifold has the ports for the smog rail to be screwed into the exhaust. Do I need to remove the tubes from the old manifold and install them on the new manifold, I will be installing the smog rail to keep the car looking original. Is there any performance issues with installing the smog rail without the 4" smog tubes.

I'm preparing to have twice pipes installed in my 72 "refreshed" car. I'm using an L28 with SU's into a 6 into 2 header with the intent of running dual pipes to the rear. Do I need to have a cross over tube behind the collector to equalize the exhaust pressure. The old set did not have this but came of the stock manifold. The local "know-it-alls" are pretty evenly split on whether it should be done or not. Any of you guys running them using a cross over tube? I know years ago when I was a gopher at the muffler shop, we did it on the V8's when we did dual exhaust systems. Don't ever recall splitting a 6 cylinder unit. As a side bar, the original (at least the pipes …
