I bought my early 260z a few months ago. The first thing I did was change the struts (KYB's) and installed Eibach springs. Tires had about an inch gap, look real good. The ride was wasn't so good, I could feel every bump and road marker, even bottomed out a few times. The exhaust smell was also real bad so I sealed everything up, tail lights, drain plugs ect. I got tired of the rough riding so I put back the stock springs. It raised the front end 3" and the rear 2" now here's where it gets weird, the exhaust smell is gone. I've been using a CO detector in the car the last month and it would read in the 50's or more and now just 10ppm. Must have done something to the arodyn…

Flex coupler? 1 2 3

Hi all, So I ordered and received the MSA premium exhaust, and I already know I need to put a resonator in the middle. I'll get a local welder to modify one of the pipes with the resonator, so that it will all still bolt up. But since I'm doing the modifications, I'm wondering whether it's also a good idea to include a flex coupling to isolate the bulk of the exhaust system from engine movement and vibrations. I've seen these couplers on transverse-mounted systems, but don't know if they're also useful/helpful/beneficial for rear-wheel-drive cars. Any thoughts? I'm looking at this coupler... or better, maybe this one in SS. Also I'm looking at this muffler as a mid-pip…

Hey there guys! I am buying a 260z this weekend and it has straight pipes all the way back. Way too loud to drive around. I want to put a new system in, but I want it to sound higher pitched than lower pitched. I'm thinking a supra or corvette-ish sound. Any suggestions for me? I have Magna-Flow on my Camaro and it's very loud and deep sounding (awesome!), so I want to stay away from the muscle car sound.

Hi all, Wow, I've been gone quite a while. We took a 4 mo long roadtrip across the US. Saw some interesting sights. Took in some good photography. I returned to my Z, which had sat up the last 4 months in the garage. Poor thing. The inspection sticker had expired, so off I went to have it inspected. It failed because of a rusted out muffler. Adding insult to injury, the gas was pretty bad, so it ran awfully. (Fresh gas now.) Talked to the muffler shop. They couldn't get me an OEM part but offered me a universal aluminized muffler. Been there and done that on my '75: In my experience, the things only last a few years before they rust out. On the other hand, my …

I was wondering has anyone here installed Twice Pipes with stock header? How does it sound? Still loud? I really don't want to pay 300+ for aftermarket header if it doesn't improve performance much. But I do want some nice sound

Hi guys,,, I have been lurking here for almost one year and its time for my first post, since my Zed is on its way to my empty garage after quitting Zeds for Ten Years... Well, my question is about wrapping my exhaust header with any available wrapping in the market (Just for appearance, it looks neat) but am confused since I think wrapping the exhaust header would keep my header hot and as a consequence the engine would run hotter and engine overheating problems could arise!!!! From your experiences, what do you think folk? Ronaldo

So I've solved my scary no brakes problem and now it's on to the scary gradual poisoning due to severe in-car fumes problem. Long story short, I suspect the very old, very corroded 6-2 tube header and it's mating 2-1 exhaust pipe are leaking because I seem to get stronger whifs of the fumes if I really put my foot down. I've already replaced the gaskets and bolts between the header and exhaust pipe. Could be the flange at the head, could be cracks in the tubes, etc. Has anyone had experience with verifying this type of problem? I feel like replacing the header and exhaust pipe would be a good starting point just to rule out the most obvious source of fumes, but any f…

Hi guys, now it is my time to make a dual exhaust thread. Since my car came with a 2.5 inch exhaust there after my taste was way to loud, i decided to make my version of the Clifford dual system, my decision was to use 1 3/4 inch pipe, being that it should be the same as 2.5 inch pipe in opening, some might remember this: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33819 The exhaust was suppose to have the same mufflers in the middle the same as the glasspack at the back, the guy at the parts store made a mistake and ordered tha wrong ones, well i talked him down to $16 a piece, decided to use them and if it don't works it won't be such a big loss. I still need…

I'm laying plans for a new exhaust later this summer. As I try to decide what to keep, what to buy and what to build, I'd really like to see pictures of a complete stock downpipe for a '70-72 240Z. Mine has been modified and I need to decide how (or if) that affects my plans. Does anyone have one off the car that they can take pictures of, and maybe a measurement or two?

9070 is factory air (I know dealer) and factory automatic. I took the exhaust off of the other series one rust bucket I have and it hits the transmission pan and will not seal at the manifold. The system is rusty and not in good shape but it leads me to wonder if any system is going to fit right with the automatic transmission. The auto is rebuilt and in the car and running so I am not changing it. Let me know of your thoughts. Thanks in advance, Cheers Richard.

This past weekend I asked my local garage if they could tweek and tuck up the sad excuse for an exhaust system the dealership put on years ago. It looked like bits of pipe put together with clamps everywhere and sat so low it wouldn't go over the only speed bump in town. Center of the car had 4 inch clearance. Coming home from Branson last year I got stopped by MO Hi-PO to 'advise' me to get it up under a little better. He got it in the air and looked it over with 2 others and suggested we start new from the header back, this was just junk. Take more time and effort to tweek and splice than start from scratch. This is not what I wanted to hear. My wallet was shaking in …
