I need a muffler for a 76 280. Been driving it since 1980. Looking for something not radically loud. Car is basically stock and I want to keep it that way. Don't need headers and I just changed the cat. Direct fit preferred. Magnaflow?, Flowmaster?, Bosal?. All suggestions appreciated.

Hey all, I have tried searching but I decided to ask everyone's experience. The background: my 73 240 with round tops and ZX dizzy. I installed a used exhaust fitted with a 40 series flowmaster. With the stock exhaust manifold, it sounded great, not too loud. Recently I installed my Clifford header and cleaned up the engine bay a bit. The new situation is the exhaust is considerably louder and now I get a persistent drone on the freeway. (it also revs significantly faster ) I have read many many threads with people adding a resonator in the middle to cut the drone. What I can't decide on is the style of resonator or glass pack to install in the middle section. I am lo…

I've copied these posts into a separate thread, as they diverge from "what-was-in-the-past" into "what-we-hope-for-in-the-future".

Hey everyone, I just received my MSA Twice Pipes today and thought I would post some pics. The pipes seem to be of pretty good quality, all the welds seem nice and the pipes were fairly easy to slide together. I plan to install the pipes within the next few days, but I need to find time to get to Napa to pick up my headers gaskets. My total came to $200 and included the Twice pipes and a set of intake and exhaust studs and nuts. This thing looks like its going to be pretty loud, so we will see how it goes. I will try and get some videos up once the pipes are on, I know videos may persuade some of you guys to go this route as well. It's going on a stock rebuilt L24 with tw…

Hello, Just to give you guys an update. Its been about 4 years. I finally heard the engine run last night. Original L24 with mikuni tripple. It sound beautiful . I have a 6 and 1 header. I am in the market for an exhaust system starting from the header tip, I will need something custom, bent pipe to come to the rear dual at left and right of the bumper. that is the look i am looking for. From what I've been reading if you're going to modify the L24 in the future, I should go with 2 1/2 pipe or more from header to the rear. I need some sweet sound and if later modified still get the sweet sound. If I take the car to a muffler shop what should I ask for. can anyone who has…

for 240z? Are they available in US and with just one pipe as the OEM system? My exhaust is still the original from the engine to the rear muffler since 1972 and I am looking for options to stay with the stock look. I have had Ansa on a fully restored 65 Austin Healey 3000 MK III and it was marvelous sound.

gang I have read and read and still have not been able to come to a clear outcome so any advice/opinions would be welcomed. I have a 71 240 (no smog controls required) with a 280 motor from a 78Z. I was looking into a header/exhaust set up. I don't want to sound like (as you say) "the ricers" and I don't want to sound obnoxious but I certainly do want to sound better, deeper/throatier than stock. I am not installing them myself - having a shop do it. First I was thinking 3 into 2 with twice pipes but many seem to have had a headache with them. Then I was thinking 6 into 1 but am reading the dynomax muffler isn't a good fit under the car. I also like the look of the Ansa (…

I found some headers for a 240z on craigslist. They look like they are the MSA 3-2 headers but I just want to be sure. I called the guy and he said he didn't know. I dont want to drive the 45 miles to see them to find out they are some off brand header. Here is the link to the posting http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/1148502577.html

Have been searching for a good stock down pipe without success, does anyone know where they are hiding? Or do I need to look into having one fabbed? Finding a real muffler shop in my area will be a real trick. I have an old one for a pattern.

The PO installed a home made exhaust system in my car, it's a 2.25 inch pipe with a Volvo muffler:ermm: and its loud with a not so crisp a sound:sick:. I like to duplicate the Clifford twin pipe system, but can't decide on the pipe size, i think a twin 1 3/4 inch system will be the best for flow, it have to connect to my headder witch is a 3 to 2 and ends in 2 inch, all input appreciated. Chris
