I was watching a Saturday morning car show on Speed (didn't recognize the host though) and they were talking about the different muffler products offered by Cherrybomb. They had cutouts and described the technology behind the design. On their website they have a sound link where you can hear the mufflers on a truck or Ford Mustang (no comment). They have a nice looking glasspack available, and the Turbo muffler looks like it would work nice. Has anybody here put them on their Z?

Does anyone know the type and thread size for plugs to plug the holes in the exhaust manifold. I am removing the air injection and need to plug those holes. Thanks, Mike

Are the muffler mounting locations on a 240Z the same as on a 260Z and 280Z? I knoe the diameter of the pipes are diferent but like to know if the mufflers bolt up the same way.

Excuse me if your not a motorhead, but I thought those of you who are might be intereseted in the following. Its often been repeated that if you dont have enough backpressure the torque output of your engine will suffer. I have even repeated this statement. However I have never heard any proof of this "fact". I read an exhaust system comparison in one of the automotive magazines where they dyno tested on a V8 engine, back to back 2.5,3.0 and 3.5" exhaust systems. Torque and horsepower increased with each increase in exhaust system diameter. A quick google search revealed this article. Which I thought was quite revealing, and dispels some commonly held myths about exhaust …

I bought the 2.5" exhaust system from MSA. The muffler that came with it is huge and is exposed below the body. I would like to replace it with a muffler that is smaller and doesn't hang below the body. What are your suggestions? 1971 240Z, engine is stock except for MSA header. Thanks, Darrell 240Z

while i was driving today my zed got really noisy all of a sudden. i knew it had to be the muffler since it was really old and indeed it was. when it got it back to my pad i cut the muffler off and it sounds really nice. it sounds like a race car:love:. before i keep driving it this way is it going to hurt the motor by doing this? i was told it might need more back pressure and i dont want to burn a valve up so is it alright if i keep driving it this way?:devious:

I was talking to a buddy at work that restores classic cars about a few ANSA exhaust tips I bought recently, and he brought up the idea of me installing dual headers for the Z. Basically the header will lead to an exhaust pipe for each 3 chambers, then each pipe will split in direction and lead off to the back of the car. He mentioned I might get 10-15% performance increase. Has anyone done this or suggest this? It seems like a pretty simple bolt in process installing the headers, but what about all the hoses and stuff ontop of the exhaust manifold? Any and all suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Since I could not find a stainless steel exhaust system, I sourced the parts and had a system fabricated for this early '74 260Z. The system under construction is shown in the attached photos. The muffler, resonator and pipes are from Borla. Flanges are from Vibrant. Two rubber hangers are used per hanger rod. The fabricator used by MSA mandrel bent the "S" pipe for me. System diameter is 2.25". The muffler tip will be added after the bumper is installed. The parts can also be obtained in 2.5" diameter. Regards, Fixitman

So, i got under my car, took a look-see and i found a few rusted out holes in my exhaust piping. Rather than deal with a bad sounding car when it COULD be so beastly i'm planning on replacing the whole exhaust system. However, i've spent the better part of the day trying to find some places to buy off the internet and haven't found ANYTHING. I'm really hoping someone else has done the research in here and can link me to the sites i need. Black dragon and thezstore.com weren't much help =/

Ok, so I am thinking 3.2.1 exhaust. Not really sure if I should do 6.1 exhaust. Though this is my idea. Buy the manifold and then have a custom pipe made. What I was thinking was having the exhaust cut of shortly after the transmission and have it point downwards. Somewhere between the end of the exhaust and manifold put in a cherry bomb or something to help with noise. Or even a slim jim muffler. Now, my concern is would this be too loud? I want quiet when around town with maybe a little throaty noise, but when I get on it I want it to sound good and loud, but not Honda loud. Then my second concern is if I have the exhaust cut off after the transmission pointin…

So I'm going through all the miscellaneous Z stuff in my garage yesterday and I come across this (see attached photos). I reckon I knew it was there all along, but had simply forgotten about it. I've had it at least 20 years. Not really sure who the manufacturer was/is, but I seem to recall I bought it from Motorsport Auto. My questions are: 1) What do I need to consider before simply replacing my existing muffler with this (78Z with stock exhaust system). Any performance issues? 2) What will be the difference in the sound of the exhaust with this mod? Will my wife ever want to drive the car again (she's not impressed with excessively loud exhausts)? Will law e…
