Is there anyone who has used a set of square port headers on a round port head for any duration? If yes, did they leak? And if no leaks, what gasket did you use? Confession time. Almost 2 years ago, I bought my Z and I knew almost nothing about it (thanks to you guys and school of hard knocks, we can advance this knowledge level at least slightly :p). I saw an offer for a set of headers listed as “round port” MSA 6 to 1 headers for 1978 Datsun 280z and said ideal! and bought them for a steal. They didn’t look entirely right, but I didn’t know any better ( shame on me). Fast forward to today and I am getting ready to install and realize why they don’t look ri…

I was in need to getting out of my own head this evening, so I went for some Z therapy - a drive after kiddies’ bath time. Warming the car up in the driveway on the choke at 2krpm, in want was a very dark night I spotted the primaries glowing orange!!! The iPhone camera does over emphasise the colours and makes them look 500*c hotter!!! Super glowing primaries Batman ... Is anyone else up for taking a photo of their primaries at 2k rpm in near darkness and uploading here? Would be interesting to see! FYI - that’s a Z-Story race/sport stainless steel header. And before anyone asks, the AFR was sitting at 12.8ish + timing at 2krpm is set to 22 degrees…

I have a 1972 Z that continues to blow out the 2 holed gasket between the manifold and the down-pipe and leak. I've tried both cut rate auto parts store versions and the OEM version with equal success. The motor is mildly built and I'm running a single 2 -1/2 inch exhaust from the down-pipe to the rear. Wondering if exhaust dope might possibly help. Anyone else have a similar problem and found a solution.

Dyno Testing My 260Z This is an analysis based on my dyno testing from 8-20-11. Test Parameters The reason for the testing was that I wanted to log a baseline for my 260Z before going further with more engine modifications and to make a comparison between different configurations. The baseline settings are as follows: early 260Z with 1972 L24/E88 that was installed by the previous owner triple 40DCOE-18 Weber carbs with K&N-style filters, not jetted yet, just bolted on and sync'd Cannon long-runner manifold stock exhaust manifold to single 2.5" crush-bent pipe stock cam and internals refreshed cooling system with aluminum radiator, new water pump and…

Not wishing to double post, I urge you to read my post under the link below and check your car over!! This could have had SO MANY bad endings!!! https://zclub.net/community/index.php?threads/check-your-steering-is-safe-please.27074/ (I hope linking to another forum doesn’t violate any rules, please let me know if it does and I will double post). Edit: apologies to the moderators, I realised I put it in the wrong place after I hit the post button but can’t move it.

I'm replacing the engine so I will have access to the header and would like to check the exhaust system for leaks. I was thinking that I would plug 5 of the 6 ports and blow a fog machine down the 6th port and watch to see if fog comes out anywhere from front to rear. Is this a bad idea? Would the fog from a fog machine damage the muffler? Do you have a better way to test for leaks?

I went with the 6 to 1 ceramic coated headers from MSA and then just went to an exhaust shop and had Magnaflow with 2 1/2" pipe all the way back. Used this resonator and muffler. Very pleased with the way it turned out, both fit and sound! Not too loud and no drone while cruising. A question that I have is on the MSA catalog for their premium exhaust they talk about installing the muffler at an angle? Mine is in flat and I really like the way that it's tucked up out of site. I have zero exhaust smell in the cabin either with closed or open windows. Does anyone know why MSA says to angle the muffler?

I have picked up a very original 72 240 and the header and exhaust are rusted pretty bad. I want to replace but have questions. If you had a choice to go with the MSA ceramic system or the zstory street stainless system which would you choose? The MSA ceramic says it will be cooler by 40%. MSA being cheaper is a plus. MSA https://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic19d/15-6001CH Thermal Coating:This header comes with a highly durable and effective Aerospace Thermal Barrier Ceramic or TBC coating, which is good up to 1300 degrees fahrenheit. The satin "polished" silver finish coats both the inside and outside of the header. This does a number of things. Fi…

Hi team, Is anyone running a Classic muffler from Z Story? All the videos I've seen show Sean's JDM muffler. I love the sound of the JDM, but prefer the single tip look of the Classic. I'm trying to gauge how tame the Classic is compared to the great sound of the JDM. Thanks!
