New engine coming, getting some MSA headers. Want to keep the engine bay cool for the desert trip. Jet hot takes a while, shipping reqd, etc. MSA coating looks good but I doubt if it will keep heat in the header where it belongs as well as jet hot. Ceracote would be convenient since there's a local shop that can do it but I don't know if it's as good as jet hot.

Hi everyone, I was dreading the exhaust sound which I thought was a cracked header. I stuck my phone down there and took a picture. Apparently there is a port (assuming emissions related) that is venting exhaust. Would anyone know what size thread I would need cap this hole? Thank you. Howard 1974 260z

Just fixed my problem. The issue was the flange on the header for #1 cylinder was just a bit too tall. The top of the flange hit the edge of the water thermostat housing and wouldn't seat to the head. Didn't want to grind the header and go through the ceramic coating. Took off the thermostat housing and ground a little bit off the bottom edge lip. That same flange also interfered with the intake manifold where I had to slightly enlarge the bolt hole on the top of the intake manifold to avoid cross threading the bolt into the head. Here's a shot with the area circled in faint red where I had to grind the bottom of the thermostat housing.

What would be the closest setup that equal the sound? Of course I'm refering to the old Ansa complete system with one resonator in the middle and over/under glasspacks at the end. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi everyone: I ordered a collector reducer to connect to my MSA downpipe (to stock manifold). The collector reducer comes with a paper gasket. Is this paper gasket sufficient? I see that there are other varieties of gaskets like copper, aluminum, and non-asbestos type fiber material, but I don't know if they are overkill for a street car? Thank you. Howard '74 260z

I am currently deployed at the moment, but I was able to purchase my very first Datsun 280z a few days ago. Seeing as this is my first sports car and that I'm new to the game I was hoping I could get some ideas on what kind of catback exhaust I should order so that it will be ready to be installed once I return home. There is nothing wrong with the current exhaust other than some fumes that leak into the interior. My main goal is to get a performance increase and improve the look and sound of the car.

My uncle (who worked for the gas company for 20 years, then started his own fire pit company) used to have a classic ambulance that he was able to shoot flames from the tailpipe on command, I think with a spark plug. Is there any "safe" way to do this in a non-catalyst Z? I have no cat (Fed 76 Z). Not only does it look amazing, but for the tailgaters, I got something for ya... to melt your bumper... oops, sorry! I think it involves installing a spark plug and switch to battery in the tailpipe, but is there some kind of valve/flap.cutoff to prevent the hellfire from going back up to the engine?

Hi everyone: My car has the stock engine with the stock manifold and the 2" downpipe. I don't have a premuffler but all the piping (aft of where premuffler should be) is new 2.25" pipe (this is how it was when I bought the car). As you can see in the picture the stock pipe does not line up with the new pipe. My guess is that the stock premuffler had an offset outlet? I was thinking about: A. Cut the stock pipe right before it starts the right turn and try fitting a straight pipe. B. Don't mess with the stock pipe and add a premuffler by removing some of the new pipe. C. Take it to a muffler shop and pay them to somehow connect the pipes. …

1978 280z n47 head&block automatic trans i'm test fitting a pacesetter header to replace my cracked stock manifold, and I'm running into a major fitment issue. The tail end of the collector pipe is several inches closer to the centerline of the car than it should be. The bend in the tube looks to have been designed to literally avoid the stock transmission mounted exhaust hanger! this photo shows a look back from under the oilpan, there is currently to gasket between the head and flange but that doesn't seem to be capable of affecting the fit this adversely. I can fix this via welding a straight tube in place of the bends, but I'd prefer not chop t…

75 280z CA model, has a hanger that is just in front of the cat, think same on non CA, just sits in front of the resonator. all that was there was a bolt that was not really doing much as it would not stay on the mount ear of the transmission near the end of the tail shaft. on my hard copy of the FSM is shows a clip that goes under the middle of the trans and lock onto a bottom ridge. the clip then goes out to where the bolt fits thru the slot cut on the transmission ear. This effectively captures the bolt so it will not slide of the mount ear. the bolt secures the bottom hanger that is clamped to the down pipe just before the cat or resonator. I am missi…

I was thinking of where to put a microphone for when I record videos of Lapping. I could use the internal microphone of the tablet, which picks up the shifts, and clicking of the pawls of the turn indicator, or to use a remote microphone elsewhere. Also, how do you just record the exhaust of a parked car? I think the procedure for using a sound meter requires you to be a certain distance from the source, so I'm presuming there is a kind of magic distance that gives you a good representation when recording a parked car. You also don't need to be pointing the recording device (a microphone) at the tailpipe. I don't care for using a video camera of some sort to record…

Anyone try this ? With all my mufflers and resonators I am still dissatisfied with my drone at low rpm loads. I'm about done trying any other mufflers so I'm going to try this type resonator . It might be a matter of where it will fit as far as location . I might actually be able to get rid of my muffler - resonators and loose some weight going this style . The pic is just a general idea but I've read that just a length of pipe will do , sounds like around 24" piece does the trick. It can be basically attached at a 90 degree angle to the pipe, but after that it can be bent to fit anywhere .
