OKay, so I took my 1970 240Z out last night and got pulled over by the cops for being too loud. I had the week before had a Turbo Thrush muffler installed as the old one was punched full of rust holes. Now I'll admit that the car is loud, but I thought the new muffler had - you know - muffled that enough. I guess not. So, I'm wondering if adding a resonator mid-pipe might make it sufficiently quieter and keep the cops off my back? I'm thinking about either this one - Walker Exhaust 17861 Sound FX Resonator Universal : Amazon.com : Automotive or this one- Flowtech 50252 FlowTech Red Hots Glass Pack Mufflers but don't want to go to the trouble and expense if a resonator is…

I have parts from three 240Zs; a Series 1, and later '71, and a '73. From these I am building one - hopefully - very nice one. I picked the cleanest looking of three exhaust manifolds and installed. Now that I'm ready to hook up the exhaust piping, I find that the manifold-to-pipe gasket does not fit. I have new gaskets from three different kits, and they all perfectly match the holes on the "pipe" side, but not the manifold (see photo). Comparing the manifold on the car to one of the others I have, the centre-to-centre measurements are 7.1 cm from centre hole to corner hole on the manifold, while the other is 6.7 cm. Corner hole to corner hole on the one in the car…

Looking into doing performance exhaust on the '77 280z, my choice right now is MSA 3 to 2 header TBC coated with smog fittings http://www.thezstore.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=TZS&Product_Code=15-6011CH and MSA performance exhaust http://www.thezstore.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=TZS&Product_Code=15-6021 Has anyone had experience with these products and if so whats your honest opinion? And as a side note if anyone knows of any threads on how to install these parts, or tricks that you know of for installation, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Anyone knows if the water and soap spraying or the hose and funnel method works to find exhaust leaks at the manifold to downpipe union? I replaced this gasket with felpro gasket and still get popping at exhaust on deceleration with the msa premium exhaust stock manifold kit

I am considering on replacing the exhaust system on my 72 240z from the manifold to the tail. I am not interested on headers just something that sounds Racing and gives some additional horses: Is the MSA PREMIUM EXHAUST OKAY?? or is there any better recommendation? Should i also change the gasket that attaches to the downpipe?

Im looking for a better 2.5" 3-bolt gasket replacement for the pipe to pipe gasket supplied by MSA in their kit: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/15-6302 I have read i should purchase Nissan to avoid any leak as the ones supplied by MSA are not high quality. Any recommendation?

Hey guys, hoping I can get a little bit of help here! I was wondering if anyone had any experience putting a Datsun Competition Exhaust on a 280Z (1977 in particular). From my understanding the exhaust mounting points changed slightly in the 280Z along with a smaller rear valence cutout for the tailpipe. I've been mocking it up and I keep running into the same issue, it seems as if the driver's side flange of the end piece (That muffler assembly in the picture, the right flange) doesn't line up with the driver's side exhaust cut out like it seems to be designed for. Instead it's around the middle of the car and forcing me to route that pipe in an awkward dir…

after snapping one off (and deciding to call it quits before I do any more damage) I decided to try the nut splitter on the brass nut from the snapped off one. No joy with hand tools but with an impact driver it split that baby in seconds, then it came of real easy. Now the issue is how to get the impact driver on the nut splitter with everything installed and not loose out it the open. I am pretty sure the back the middle one with a swivel joint and extension with the windshield washer door up you could do, the other may be more of a challenge. just FYI. I plan to take it too a shop at this point since my confidence has been shaken. I presume the correct approa…

I have removed the seized exhaust studs and broken EGR tube fitting on the exhaust manifold with a lot of patience and heat cycles with the oxy/acetylene torch. I will not be using the EGR valve and would like to thread a sealing plug into the manifold. The thread size on the fitting does not look like a common thread size. Any suggestions before sending the manifold to get bead blasted and then I will be priming and painting it with the VHT exhaust paint. EGR block off plates are easy to find but have not been able to locate any info on that tube thread size. Thanks in advance for any help. Resurrection project slowly progressing between work, family, and church . …

Hey doods. So I got a mid-pipe with an original NICHIRA N3300 resonator on it, and I believe it's a parts-department unit as it's coated in the original black semi-gloss finish. It has a couple of dings and dents, but nothing major. I know it may not be the right one for the 01/1970 car, but it should be close enough at this stage where I can bolt it up and replace it at a later date if I find anything more suitable. My issue is the Exhaust "downpipe" and muffler section. The one from jdm-car-parts is the same as the one that MSA sells, and i've noticed that the merge is not quite as close to OE as it could be. Or maybe the one I have off the car is an aftermark…

My '71 240 has a replacement stock style muffler with an exhaust tip that ends below the bumper. I would like to add a longer exhaust tip to make the exhaust exit further away from the car without looking ridiculous. How far beyond the bumper does your exhaust tip exit? Pictures are welcome! This all part of an effort to reduce the exhaust fumes come in my car. I already have new tail light seals and the Kia hatch seal installed and will be working on sealing up my hatch trim panel. Being a series-1 car I am unsure how much difference it will make due to the flaps that in it so thinking beyond sealing and looking at the root of the problem.
