    I just bought this car and towed it home - it's been sitting for 2 years - with a bit of starting fluid I got it to start up and run rough for a few seconds. Anyway it won't start up and all the plugs get fuel fouled right away. I get great spark - replaced all plugs, wires, cap & rotor. Anything else to check? I notice two 2-wire connectors in front under thermostat - 1 directly under thermostat and 1 just to the left (looking from front of engine) Is one of these the chts that has something to do with the fuel flowing from injectors? (read about it in another post)

  2. When the engine warms up, the idle rises to 2100rpm. It stays there until coming to a nearly complete stop(~3mph), where it suddenly drops to 900. The car has no cruise or AC and has 62,000 miles. We brought it to our general mechanic, and he can't make heads or tails of it. Has anyone else had this problem before, or a good idea of what causes it?

    1979 280ZX coupe I'm having a new windshield installed next week and I need to properly remove the trim before my glass man arrives. I can't find a thing in my FSM. Section BF-16 describes the glass part but says "remove the wipers, front pillar garnishes and windshield garnish". It goes on to say" refer to roof trimming for removal". Thus far and have not located anywhere in my FSM that deals with roof trimming. Any ideas where this can be found in FSM. Can anyone describe how I can remome the metal trim without damaging it?

Hi I picked up a 79 280zx the car runs great then about 30-40 mins into driving it starts running really rich and you cant go anywhere if I rev the motor to 3200 rpms I can get the car to go if it falls below you have to catch a sweet spot with the pedal a little over 1/4 throttle it seems to smooth out but if you give it more it starts popping and wanting to die if you shut the car off let it cool down it will start and run fine until its warm or that 30- to 40 min mark I also noticed the idle when your driving and come to a stop push the clutch in the motor stays at 1700 rpms for 5 plus seconds then drops to 600 rpms I dont know if thats right ive never had or been in a…

    Ok as some of you know I'm trying to steal the 79 EFI to run on my 71. I've been staring at schematics for awhile, looking through the FSM Engine electrics and EFI sections of the FSM, but I can not figure out what the yellow wire from the body plug leading into the EFI relay does. The black and white and green wire are switched power. Assuming to run to the ECU and one to the Dropping resistors. I checked voltage to the yellow wire while the car is running and nothing. And nothing during cranking only and it's not going to ground. So I let it run and cut it while the car was running. No change. Turned the car off and back on no issues. The other thing I not…

    I have this parts car that i'm trying to get going, to verify some parts and stealing some others. It starts right up even cold. That was a project. When cold or warm, I can't get the idle down. I have the TB screw all the way in. Timing was advanced all the way, so I retarded it some. Can't find any vacuum leaks except one, two injectors I know are sucking some air. I swapped AFM no, change. Checked AIC and even manually plugged it just to be sure. Checked all my vacuum lines, brake booster, etc. I just can't believe two injectors could cause that high of an idle? If anything, I would think that would reduce idle. Thoughts. Could a stuck B…

    So a year ago I bought 79 280zx, I did everything to it from cleaning out the entire fuel system, cleaning the afm, valve adjustments, trying to clean the throttle body, I blew air through injectors and the fuel rail, sealed the tps after cleaning it, changed spark plugs and wires, ran fuel cleaner through it, and changed the plugged pcv tube, changed one injector to get rid of a misfire which it succeeded at doing, checked for vaccum leaks, corrected timing. It also would sometimes start up and the idle would go up and down and after driving for a bit it would stop the bad idle and it rarely stalled but started stalling more and more at only the first stop light times th…

    We ran across something weird , if the fuel pump relay 2 is removed from the car the fuel pump circuit works, has anyone else experienced this? trying to chase down the grimmalins

    I have an 81 280zx turbo and was wondering where the brains are I got the car with aftermarket seats I recently pulled them and all the carpet out there is a metal box under each seat I was wondering what those are are they the brains ? Or did the 81 zxt have electric seats are they motors let me know please

    When I drive my car with the headlights on, the alternator light glows very dimly. I have not had any problems starting and this has been going on for months. I have checked the voltage at the battery with car running and I get about 13.4 or so. Belt is tight, connections cleaned. Is my alternator going bad and if it is, do I have a 60 amp or a 70 amp alternator?

  11. Hello folks, I recently bought a 1981 280zx turbo and it runs fantastic, however I have run into some electrical problems. The blinkers stopped working and I had 3 dash lights always on (Fuel, Door, and Brake). There was also a buzzing noise coming from a relay under the passenger side dash. I have no idea what relay it is, however when i disconnected it the buzzing goes away and the 3 lights turn off. Now when I engage either side of the blinker, the blinker relay behind the steering wheels buzzes away and they still do not work. Also, when I put the car in reverse the 3 dash warning lights turn back on. Does anybody have any idea what this could be and am I going to hav…

    Hi I just bought this 280zx. the owner let it sit for ten plus years. The interior is shot, the paint needs redone and I've yet to get it running. The fuel pump doesn't seem to be kicking in and the starter is out of there for sure. No oil or gas on plugs. So that's good. Definitely a project. I have no experience with EFI or turbos so I'm trying to learn as much as possible before I start tearing into it. So I have a few questions about suspension upgrades. EFI upgrades and so on. I have yet to find a EFI upgrade that's plug and play for the turbo L28 motor. This is going to be a tear down to chassis and rebuild project. I'm wanting to ad some modern touches to the inter…
